Summary: BEST EVER!
Review: This is easily the finest ghost story film I've seen. It is genuinely creepy, and there are several scenes that border on the horrific. The film actually made me cringe in fear. I don't scare easily, and this is one of three movies that have frightened me enough to temporarily suspend my very solid sense of disbelief in the supernatural. If you like ghost stories, if you enjoy horror movies, then this one should be a part of your collection.

Summary: Genuinely Spooky!
Review: I can't believe somebody thought 'the Evil Dead' was scarier than this;that's like saying the rugrats is a more accurate depiction of war then 'Saving Private Ryan'. This is one of the most chilling movies ever made for TV. I've spent 20 years watching Horror,Mystery and Sci-Fi movies and this easily ranks as one of the most frightening. Don't miss it!

Summary: Unforgettable
Review: Like many, I saw this 7 or so years ago on A&E, and haven't had a chance to see it again. But I can vividly remember how unexpectedly unnerving it was. Even though I saw it only once, I consider it the best ghost story ever filmed, neck and neck with The Innocents. It has such an ominous atmosphere about it. You suspect something bad is going to happen...but you're never really prepared when it does. I saw the movie in the middle of the day, though an overcast fall day, and it left me very uneasy, especially since I believe in ghosts and had just moved into a fairly creepy house. I'll NEVER forget The Woman in Black.

Summary: A huge disappointment
Review: After hearing so much about it and reading the glowing reviews of it here, I finally broke down and purchased this disc. I was all set to be scared, or creeped out, or something.....anything! I was severely disappointed on all counts. I had heard that it starts off slow (which it does, trust me), but that it works up to a tense climax. I watched and watched and watched, waiting for something to happen. My eyes kept looking back and forth at the running time on the DVD player, thinking "something has got to happen in the last 45 minutes...ok, in the last 30 minutes...well maybe the last 10", but it never does. There are plenty of moments when it could've been really creepy, but naturally this being a made for TV film, it cops out. The "woman" is in it for a total of about 5 minutes. After watching it I had the same disgusted feeling I had after watching the Blair Witch Project. I knew I should've bought The Changeling instead.

Summary: Don't watch this alone!
Review: Prepare yourself for a frightening experience for this film really delivers the goods. This is the best horror movie I've ever seen, no other scary flick comes close! Great acting, atmosphere and a great story makes this a really unique horror movie!

So glad its finally out on DVD!

Summary: Terrific Horror film without the Gore
Review: The Woman In Black stars Adrian Rawlins, Bernard Hepton, and David Daker. A lawyer goes to town to settle an estate. He begins to delve into town history and the trouble begins. Tight story, sharp acting. Must see!

Summary: Creepy!
Review: This is truely frightening! However, as good as it is, I cannot go along with the other reviewers saying it is the scariest movie ever made. Although It IS scary, it is NOT for gore-hounds! Worth viewing! I can't wait for this to come out on DVD. Please watch this truely eerie film whenever you can.

Summary: A Good Ghost Story
Review: After my initial disappointment with Spectre, I was reluctant to buy this video. But the reasonable price made me give it a try. The movie starts out slow, building the characters up until you know who they are and what their functions are inside the plot. There is no gore, which I find an exceptional plus. The story kind of drags up until Arthur Kidd attends Alice Drablow's funeral and then her house to settle her estate. At the cemetery, he meets up with a woman dressed in black. He mistakes her for a mourner, but he is spooked by her presence. Nobody wants to talk about her or accompany him to Mrs. Drablow's house. He winds up going there with the caretaker, who drops him off and leaves. Once there, he finds an old cemeteryand the woman in black! From there, the movie takes off. The plot builds up, giving the viewer a couple of bumps and jumps. But the story is really about a terrible family secret that refuses to die, even after Arthur Kidd returns to London. I will not give away the climax, but I will tell you that the ending is both startling and unsettling. This movie is great for the ghost story buff.

Summary: Some VERY scary parts, otherwise on the dull side.
Review: I bought this movie mostly because of the positive reviews. The verdict: good, not great. The first 45 minutes are slow (whether for character development OR story build up, I found it hard to pay attention). When it finally gets interesting, it IS truly scary, and not the usual fare. The terror is interspersed with a few more dull scenes, which may be a good thing if you need a breather from the horrifying images of The Woman In Black. The explanation as to why she haunts the house and village is vague (the summary on the back of the box is more useful than what is implied in the film!), and the abrupt ending annoyed me. Overall, a unique "dark and stormy night" movie and, in my opinion, one of the scariest-if not the best-I've seen.

Summary: damn why can't we buy this in England?
Review: This is a genuinely eerie slice of perfect horror. As a correct reviewer said earlier 'whats scarier some guy in makeup chopping off some nubile teenagers head or waking up in the dark scared of some dark shape standing near you door?' The Woman in Black plays upon your night fears, your childhood fears of the dark, the fear of being watched, the fear of being alone in a house and hearing strange, sinister noises; REAL FEARS.

The subtle build up of terror from said womans sly appearances at the funeral (which i missed on first viewing) to her unforgettable final appearance generate REAL chills. Believe me after watching this one you won't want to sleep with the lights on...

After the lame overhyped nonsense that was the Blair Witch Project surely this film deserves redistribution if only to show the horrors genres new audience what 'real' fear is about.
