Summary: Don't Even Bother.
Review: This is what I call a "Neutral Movie". It isn't bad or good at the same time. It's supposed to be a thriller, but it has no twists or turns. This is the reason why I almost skipped the end. Looking at the rest of the movie, I could easily guessed what the ending would look like and it would to be. Also, the acting doesn't make up for it, all it does is equal it. This makes it seem longer than it is.
If I could have given some advice to the makers of this film, I would have suggested to atleast put an alternate ending on the DVD.
So, overall, "DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE" is not worth the your money because a "Neutral Movie" doesn't anything, and you won't want to watch this movie again, because there's nothing to be confused about in this film.

Summary: Not nearly scary enough.
Review: Travolta is believable as the concerned, protective father but somehow the movie just falls short of being scary. Vince Vaughan is one of my favorite actors but he's better as the obnoxious side kick in Made than as the sinister step father. It just didn't grab me and keep me on the edge of my seat.

Summary: Stepfather Villain Part XII
Review: I feel sorry for stepparents. It seems that they are used way too often in films as the villains. This is another one of those. A 12-year-old boy's divorced mother (Teri Polo) remarries the owner of the town's brickworks (Vince Vaughn, once again playing the "Psycho"). The town thinks he is the greatest (as we are told in far-from-subtle scenes, including one presentation of an award from the Chamber of Commerce), so when the boy sees him kill someone, no one believes him except his poor boatbuilder father (John Travolta, once again playing the noble character--we know this because his first scene involves his selling of a boat below cost, the filmmakers make sure to spell out everything for us). The main reason for his not being believed however is that he lies (which we are told in no uncertain terms at least twice. Despite this being not the most intelligent film, I was able to enjoy myself. It has tension in all the right places and good acting all around.

Review: The movie probably deserves two stars, for the casting is pretty good, and the trailer would have gotten 3 stars...too bad it doesn't depict the movie, since several scenes from the trailer fail to make it to the final cut, or to the deleted scenes in the DVD. Travolta is believable. Just. Vince Vaughn and Steve Buscemi are welcome additions to any film, although there is nothing particularly exciting about their performances here and Buscemi's screen time is far too little! Teri Polo and Matthew O'Leary as Travolta's "ex-family", can read all their lines. There is a romance in Travolta's new life, but you could never tell by the lack of chemistry between his character and the new lady....so, characterization gets a "D". The film was shot in a beautiful location in North Carolina, but much of the interior work is too dark to determine what you are viewing. The film has been edited to less than 90 minutes, which is probably a sound decision, in light of the poor quality of the story. I'm truly disappointed in Harold Becker, the director, who gave us one of the great thrillers of our time, "Sea of Love", and other good thriller flicks, such as "Malice". Nothing seems to work in this film, and I didn't even bother with most of the DVD extras, a sure sign that I regretted spending $$$ on the rental.

Summary: This movie will keep your attention
Review: John Travolta plays the part of a divorced father whose son is living with his mother and step-father. The step-father seems like a nice guy but soon Travolta's son discovers something disturbing about him. Since the boy has been known to lie in the past, no one believes his stories and he is in danger because of it. The acting is good, although the plot is predictable and Travolta does a convincing job of portraying a concerned father. This makes for a good evening's entertainment.

Review: This really isn't a "bad" movie - just incredibly formulaic and predictable. The people who made this flick had the good sense to cap it under 90 minutes. John Travolta always pleases as the "good guy," and Vince Vaughn is genuinely creepy. I guess. But Hollywood continues to churn out these weak thriller films.

Review: Mom and Dad are Divorced and My Stepfather is a Killer! That would have been the B-movie title of this movie and it pretty much describes the whole plot. Of course, the son's real dad is the only one who believes him and tries to help him out, but nobody believes him either

this movie has been done before...in fact, it's been done quite a few times! It's been done with a cop who seems like a "nice guy" at first, but then turns out to be a psycho (UNLAWFUL ENTRY), it's been done with a nanny who starts off as a "nice girl", but then turns out to be a psycho (THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE), and it was most recently produced as "parents" who starts off as a "nice couple", but then turn out to be quite psycho (THE GLASS HOUSE). The formula is pretty basic and the development of the story, quite predictable because let's face it
anybody who's seen the trailer of this film, can pretty much guess every step of the way But what makes films like these either "work" or not, is whether or not they are able to entertain you, even with their contrivances, offer you a couple of thrills, good performances and believability, along the way. In my case, I enjoyed the flick to a certain extent and thought that it did offer a pretty engaging story for the most part, with solid performances from both Vaughn and Travolta, some very cheap thrills (but nothing really intense) and enough believability for me to swat aside the few small plot holes that popped up here and there.

Summary: Exceptionally mediocre
Review: What is it with John Travolta? He can command just about any script he desires, and he signs on for the lead in this pedestrian rubbish? The man has talent, but he needs some serious career counseling. This script is not even TV grade. A kid has cried wolf a couple of times so the police don't bother to follow up when he claims he saw his step father murder someone; yes, that's very realistic. The screenplay would make any Wisconsin dairy farmer proud. It has so many holes that it is better classified as fantasy/comedy than drama. I'm surprised that this product comes from director Harold Becker ("The Onion Field", "Malice") who has given us a couple of fine thrillers. Besides the flimsy script, the cinematography is annoyingly underexposed. If Becker was trying for a dark look, he achieved it, because the film is so dark that much of the time you can only tell who's speaking by voice recognition, and that's outdoors during the day! If there is anything that saves this film from the abyss, it is the acting. Travolta is sometimes fantastic and sometimes awful. In this film he is very good, especially considering the material with which he has to work. Matthew O'Leary is particularly good as the troubled son. He gives a convincing performance, capturing the motivations of his character effectively with all the conflict one would expect from a kid in his situation. Vince Vaughn gives a decent performance, though he is a bit tentative when trying to be duplicitous. He is much more convincing as a villain than a good guy. Steve Buscemi is one of my favorite bad guys, extremely underrated and unappreciated for his consistently sleazy characters. Again, he gives us a terrifically slimy portrayal of Rick's former underworld buddy. To enjoy this film you have to look beyond the tired plot, the unbelievable departures from reality and the poor cinematography. These are just too many liabilities to overcome. I rated it a 5/10.

Review: It would have been better to release it as a movie of the week on UPN. Travolta is great, the story been done time and time again. Divorced Dad wanting to spend time with his kid, his ex-wife is getting remarried and the son needs to adjust to all the changes in his life. As a theatrical release it is weak, the suspense could have been turned up considerably. For TV or straight to DVD, is worth watching.

Review: Let me just start off by saying - Don't waste your money. This is just a horrible movie that doesn't even have a hint of a plot. I was suckered in with the casting of John Travolta and Vince Vaughan, but they totally stink up this movie. This is barely a B-movie as I've seen much better B-movies than this. Two words - Stay Away
