Summary: Satisfying Fun
Review: There was enough tap and dance to keep my creative spirit satisfied and smiling wide. The poetic drama was wonderful and the singing was quite entertaining as well. I was surprised to see Nicolas Cage in his supporting role, although he has played other gangsters in his time. The sex and violence were not too graphic, however, not tame enough for the younger set. You can't beat it for the price, especially if you like tap and drama. Nice late 20s music and costumes... Hines fans should be pleased!

Summary: Yech
Review: This film is an absolute stinker, crammed with senseless violence and a truly meaningless plot, the happy conclusion of which is a bunch of people getting gunned down in cold blood, with happy jazz music to follow. Hooray! Some of the nasty gangsters killed some other nasty gangsters! Guess what? There's still a bunch of goons floating around in a racist world. And why did all this take a whole movie to happen when they could have gunned each other down to begin with and saved us all a lot of trouble?

Summary: Stopover on Coppola's B-Train ride
Review: This is an interesting movie historically, not for it's representation of 30's Harlem, which is pretty hackneyed, but in charting Coppala's decline from auteur to hack. It's a film that, in it's triumph of style over substance, could have been produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. While it looks good, it does little to improve on contemporeneous gangster movies in terms other than visual. And it stars Gregory Hines, an actor who makes Wesley Snipes seem like Denzel Washington.

Summary: Great music, acting, production
Review: This is one of Coppola all time greats. A must for any jazz fan. The sound track is also a must have. Coppola put a lot into this production; unfortunally it was underrated and under appreciated and never got the credit it deserved.

Summary: One of my personal favourites.
Review: This movie is brilliant and fascinating from beginning to end. It's so romantic, stylish and beautiful. I always loved everything about it, and was really surprised to know it wasn't a huge hit when it first came out. To me, it's a cult movie.
Diane Lane's character, the tough adolescent who looks like a grown woman and whose face is her fortune, is a personal favourite of mine. I love her wardrobe and hair style, as well as how she starts out as a brunet in the movie and turns blond by the end. People talk a lot about Richard Gere's trumpet playing and not enough about what a nice singing voice she has. I always thought she was a very underestimated actress.
The musical scenes are unforgettable. I loved the late great Gregory Hines, both as a dancer and as an actor, and he really excelled in this picture.
It's a master piece and no one should miss it.

Review: This was a great movie but where are the deleted scenes promised?

Glad it is FINALLY out on DVD!

Summary: And, Tom Waits.
Review: Under-appreciated movie, and Tom Waits does his usual top-notch work in a very small role. What more can you ask, along with all the other compliments here?

Summary: So so
Review: When I first saw this, I really liked it. I recommended it to my mother and brother. They hated it, and hated me for recommending it. When I saw it a second time, I knew what they meant! It is bad a lot of the time. My intial liking of was because of the tone, the music, the energy, the cute character moments, and because I'm madly in love with Diane Lane (She's finally in a hit with A PERFECT STORM after so many years of flops). I love seeing her singing "Am I Blue." So I give this a middling review, considering how it's a real hit or miss enterprise.
