Summary: Review of Grand Canyon
Review: Grand Canyon had all the elements of an excellent thought-provoking movie. It made you think about life, relationships, and one's own view of the world around them. It also had a great deal of symbolism which had spiritual and metaphysical undertones, and made the film very much philosophical in nature. All of the cast did an excellent job and I consider the movie a classic, which can be viewed many times over.

Summary: Great!
Review: This one is so good! It weaves the character's lives together, and leaves you feeling there really is hope out there. I really cared about the characters, as their situations intersected. It really does make you wonder what effect our choices and actions have on the world. I, too, noticed the helicopter. I'm not sure of the meaning; perhaps symbolizing the out-of-control violence that overshadows our lives. I thought it was sort of a haunting presence. I liked the opening sequence on the basketball court so much, with its pulsating theme, I bought the soundtrack. Mostly, though, I felt so in touch with the characters, as family person, a working person, a parent, I feel these could be people in my own world.

Summary: A great movie
Review: I love this movie very much. It has a lot to say and says it well. It is thoughtful without being preachy, funny without being stupid and always interesting. Each storyline was well-constructed and the acting was terrific. All in all, a great movie experience. Mary Louise Parker gives the best performance in the movie, with Mary McDonnell not far behind. Keep tissues handy.

Summary: Become involved with layers of human emotion
Review: Absolutly, a great film. Superb story, acting, editing, and a special blend of weaving the lives of these people in L.A. What a ride....Central theme that runs thru the film, and the helicopter that connects the maze of what life is like in L.A.......is utterly fantastic. A must-see-own-see-when-down film. It kinda puts our lil' lives in perspective in relation to the goings-on around us. And how we are all more alike than different...

Summary: As is life
Review: This movie successfully intertwines real life - full of the good and bad - and guides us to the realization that good must overcome the bad. We must live each day as if it were our last because it just might be. I have read many reviews of this movie and no one even mentions the helicopter - so did they not notice it? I believe the helicopter with the light shining down over the city represents an ever present God watching over His people? What do you think?

Summary: Kasdan's Best Film Yet... Wish it Were Available on DVD...
Review: This is a film that I enjoyed when I first saw it in the theatre and when it came out on video I watched it enough to wear out my copy of the tape. I just hope and pray that this comes out on DVD some day so that I can have a copy that I can not wear out. These were characters that I truly was able to "relate to" and characters that I truly cared about. Leonard Maltin may not like it (two stars in one of his reviews is actually pretty good, even some of the films he likes get only 3 stars from him), but I do not think that Kasdan lost his "edge" at all. This was truly the "Big Chill" for my generation (I was 23 in 1991 when "Grand Canyon" came out).

God bless,

John Benjamin Tatum

Summary: A Real Cheerer-Upper!
Review: I saw this film a couple of years ago, on a lousy day when the school year began and my teachers gave me too many assignments and being a new school, I was too overwhelmed and thought that I might fail my studies. However, after a day of all work and no play, I decided to go out and catch a glimpse of what was playing. I was so relieved from all the stress and mischief of the outside world when I saw "Grand Canyon." It really informed me about urban youth in California and occasional clashes (often violent ones) between blacks and whites. After the film, I saw that I was the only one in charge of my life and that the only ones we should be concerned about are ourselves. However at the end of the film, I saw that childhood isn't much compared to what it is like out there in the jungle as an adult. Heck, I didn't have that many problems thinking that after the film. I was rejuvanated and ready to handle the everyday hits and misses of school. It was a lovely movie, and whenever I might be down, I remind myself "it's not all that bad." Buy or rent it, just see it; it's bound to purify the insides of anyone.

Summary: A Must!
Review: I loved this movie. I like the fact that it touches on the differences between races and class. Also, shows how one needs to re-examine the so called good life one thinks he/she is leading. A must for people who buy the Amercian Dream.

Summary: A special movie that leaves a lasting impression!
Review: I first saw this movie almost 8 years ago and, at the time, I felt it was one of the best movies I'd ever seen. The theme stayed with me and over the years I have had many occasions to think of the message of this film. I saw it for the second time tonight and I fully expected to be disappointed, believing that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered, the way so many things change with time and new perspectives. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the story still moves me and it is still one of the best movies I've ever seen! If you're open to a gentle story about the possibility in life, give this underrated film a shot!

Summary: Hollywood shows it can still make movies
Review: A powerful story of people people dealing with the usual and unusual events of everyday life. When at the start of the movie, Kevin Kline's car breaks down in a dangerous neighbourhood and a gang of youths surround him, the audience expect the usual bland violence that recent Hollywood films have made us expect. This time every event produces its own surprise. Mr. Kasdan is a genius
