Summary: Good but unrealistic and biased
Review: School Ties is about a Jewish boy by name of David Greene (Brendan Frasier). He lives in a small blue-collar Pennsylvania town where he is a standout high school quarterback. David gets recruited to play for St. Matthews, a preporatory school for the wealthy. While at the prep school, David, with encouragement from those who recruited him, hides his Jewish identity. At first he fits in well with the other boys (cast includes Matt Damon, Benn Affleck and Chris O'Donnell), befriends them as well as a girl from a nearby girls prep school. However, all changes when his identity is revealed.
I thought this was a very good movie. However, it was both unrealistic and biased. Firstly, I find it highly unlikely that in a real life situation, some of David's classmates (van Kelt and Connors for instance) would've stood up for him. In reality, the whole group would've probably stayed loyal to Dillon and agreed to expel David.
Also, the movie attempts to portray David as the perfect hero and victim, which he is not. He is at fault in some ways. For example, he betrayed Dillon by pursuing his "girlfriend" Sally Wheeler, although it was obvious that Dillon was interested in her. David should have shown more respect and kept a distance for the time being.
To conclude, the movie is a good entertaining watch but very over-the-top.

Summary: A Story I Absolutly Loved!
Review: SCHOOL TIES was a classic. The acting was great and the story line was fantastic! Poor Brendan Fraser, when the school found out he's jewish! I would recomend this to people who are into how life used to be....And also enjoying seeing <3Brendan Fraser<3 serious

Summary: The Actors Make the Film
Review: The storyline is nothing new. Poor jewish kid goes to rich christian school and endures bigotry. However, the script is well written, the characters are complex, the acting is good and the direction is tight. What makes this film special is that you actually care about the characters. They are not one demensional.I especially liked the Matt Damon character ( Dillion ). He is a complex villian.
He is not inherently an evil character but one of weak character that decides to do evil. He loses the quaterback position on the football team and his girlfriend to the jewish kid. He does not hate the Brenden Frasier character ( David Green) so much that he is jewish, but more because he cant compete against David.
The revelation that david is jewish becomes a covenient way of destroying david's success at the school. Ironically, if dillon had not lost his g/f to david, one can infer that he and david would have remained friends despite the revelation that David was jewish. The truly hateful character is suprisingly Davids G/F. She dumps dillon because David was the golden boy at the school.
She is very sweet and apears to love david but dumps him immediately after finding out he is jewish. The scene where she breaks up with David is heart-breaking.
She had no love for david but was more concerned with what "people might think." To her, david was the trophy B/F.
But when she discovered he was jewish, the trophy lost its luster. The movie does not present bigotry in simplistic terms which many movies do. It shows varying degrees of bigotry from improper humour to overt hatred. The movie is well made and worth watching and discussing afterwards.

Summary: A Classic Movie that's a Must See!
Review: This film is great for everyone and it also displays acts of courage and life lessons. It's a movie about football, dating, college, expectations and discrimination. From a teen's point of view it's hip and is a perfect movie to watch anytime, it applys to everyone. . .Especially teenage girls and women who like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Brendan Fraser and other guys! How perfect can a movie get? I highly suggest it!

Summary: If you are Jewish and grew up in the 50's, you'll relate...
Review: This film might have seemed "strained and obvious" to some of the other reviewers here, but if you are Jewish and grew up in the 1950's, you'll relate to it very well. Especially the part about having to violate the Jewish holidays in order to play on the team -- a conflict that still arises for Jewish students today. I've used this film very successfully in high school discussions and in classes on antisemitism. And yes, things like this really did happen to Jews -- and still do. The question of whether or not to stay "in the closet" and "pass" or be yourself and get rejected is an issue for other minorities, too. If you work in any area of multicultural studies and/or dialogue, you should add this film to your library.

Summary: One of the best movies ever
Review: This is a touching movie. Brendan Frasier plays a Jew who gets accepted to boarding school. At first he hides his heritage b/c he doesn't feel the need for anyone to know. But soon enough, it's found out. And the students make his life a living hell. (Esp. Matt Damon's character.) I think my favorite part in the movie is the scene where all the actors are in shower and Matt and Brendon get into a huge fistfight b/c Matt told a Jewish joke. Whether or not you're a fan of any of these actors, I strongly recommend watching/buying this movie. I promise, you won't regret it!

Review: This movie is classic! It describes perfectly the difficulty one has trying to fit in to a society that has no tollerance for people and/or ideas that differ from what is considered acceptable. Fraser, O'Donnell, and Damon are all academy caliber actors who play their parts to perfection. After seeing this movie I rush to see more of Fraser and O'Donnell, but I must say I was a liitle wary of watching Damon because I despised his character so much in "School Ties".
