Summary: Pull the plug on "DEAD"
Review: What does Bringing Out the Dead mean to you? In all honesty this films means nothing to me ... except how much sleep i got the night i watched it. For granted the films actors were great but thats all they were ... The charactors themselves are just plain BORING! ... and as for Martin ... what was he thinking taking this project ... maybe he was just half ... Dead?

Summary: an excellent flick...
Review: first off, scorcese is the best director. this film is very good. it is a typical scorcese flick, but the protangonist this time is an ambulance driver played by nicholas cage. i know, initially that doesn't sound like the most interesting movie-i was a little skeptical before i went to see it in the theater. but it's a scorcese flick, how bad could it be? to my pleasure the movie was much better than i had initially anticipated. cage is great in this movie-he perfectly plays the work-weary ambulance driver to a tee. this role is slightly reminiscent of his part in 'leaving las vegas', but he's not as self destructive, just really frustrated. he hasn't saved anyone's life in over six months and it's starting to get to him. so much so that he starts seeing the ghost of a young girl he felt like he failed. considering his profession i really do think this could be a hard situation to cope with-imagine a lawyer that hasn't won a case in over a year and you can see how this could be detrimental to cage's character in this movie. scorcese has an excellent knack for portraying outcasts in his movies in such a intrapersonal light that you really have no choice but to empathize with them...this movie is no different. cage is having a pretty rough time throughout the movie, but it ain't nothin' a little vitamin B-12 cocktail can't spruce up. the supporting cast are great-patricia arquette is good even though her role is not very large; john goodman is excellent as usual; ving rhames is one the most believable baptist preachers that i've seen in a long time; tom sizemore is a...nut...i think this movie is an excellent portrayl of a side of new york we don't get to see too often-the medical one. after all the goodfellas have drove off in a taxi, raging like a bull, these guys get to clean up the mess.

Summary: As perfect as life itself....
Review: Life is not perfect and neither is this film. Having been a 911 dispatcher at one time and now, having just watched this movie twice, I can tell you that that is the whole point. Closer to "Taxi Driver" than any of Scorsese's other films, this movie is far better: Better camera work, better screenplay, better supporting actors, and more interesting and sympathetic characters. For those of you who like a movie that ties everything up in a nice little bow - this ain't it! If you want to see a movie that treats you like an intelligent human being and challenges you, then see it. I liked how this movie presents it's characters with ambivalence, not in Hollywood stereotype. The viewer gets to develop his or her own perceptions of the characters and events. This movie is adapted from a book of the same name by Joe Connelly. It follows paramedic Frank Pierce over the course of 3 hot night shifts in a scummy part of NYC, and he is gradually coming apart at the seams. Nicolas Cage gives such an honest, moving, and believable portrayal of Frank that it's amazing. In other roles, John Goodman is his first partner and is (as usual) instantly engaging and interesting. Ving Rhames is Frank's second partner and he gives a stirring, forceful and poetic performance - larger than life yet still believable. Tom Sizemore then comes along as that crazy guy you knew at some point in your life and you can't believe he wound up a paramedic. I have to deduct one star for Patricia Arquette's performance: Compared to the performances of everyone else it seemed she was "acting" while they were "being". I suggest watching "Bringing Out The Dead" twice, because the first time around it may seem to have no real ending. But, if you look at the movie as you would look at real life, you'll see their's only one true ending.

Summary: Martin Scorsese & Quentin Tarantino
Review: ok...the first time i saw it...i was just concerntrating on the story and i liked it...after i seen 2nd time, i felt like i was watching a film directed by martin and quentin...well, it's absolutely not because of Ving Rhames who acted on both bringing out the dead and pulp fiction...it's just because of the feeling when you watch a film...does anybody understand? ok...the first drug dealer apartment scene is the scene what i am talking about. not only the background music is kind of 70's music that quentin loved and used in his pulp fiction but also the mood of scene, interior mood of the apt, color, and dialogue...well...i can't say martin was inspired by quentin's pulp fiction but i absolutely can say that martin was feeling the samething when he was shooting or editing...if anybody felt the same way...please email me and let me know... Quentin Tarantino is the MASTER....i LOVE his style...even martin...

Summary: dark and strange
Review: This is not a movie that the typical movie going will enjoy. Many people will find it boring and say that it doesn't make sense. But, it's not all supposed to. There are a lot of things in life that DON'T make sense and that is the whole point. This is a movie that you absolutely MUST watch in the dark. When I watched it, I looked at the clock and it was 11 when it was over. It felt like it should have been much later. I hope that gives you somewhat of a feel of the darkness of the movie (literally and figurtively).

Summary: This is one of the worst movies I ever saw.
Review: I usually like Scorsese's movies, but this one does not even deserve a single star. Where's the plot? The only good thing about it is that it might be realistic and true to the subject. But is that enough? It just a real-life ER episode with a medic near a burnout... I could not care less for the story (what story?) or the people involved. The guy see ghosts, works a lot and is getting crazy. It does not take 2 hours to explain; 10 minutes would have been enough.

Summary: Unpredictable and moving film
Review: It's terrible how the latest film by one of our greatest directors was neglected by the public. Especially when it's a terrific film like BRINGING OUT THE DEAD. This is how I wish all movies were like! I had no idea what was going to happen next when I was watching it, least of all how it was going to end. Every time an opportunity came up for Scorsese to take the movie to a typical Hollywood treatment, he'd stear away from that and keep it unpredictable. For instance, I'm thinking how he stayed clear of a typical boy meets/falls in love with girl scenario. Because of this, the film felt very honest to me and stayed in my head for days after. I kept asking how I'd handle myself in Frank's place as a paramedic. Would I be sympathetic to my fellow man in need when (s)he was a drug addict/pusher/pimp/prostitute/drunk who kept coming back to the hospital every day with the same problems? Do I push them to the side because I feel there are more deserving people who need treatment? Could I retain my sanity with a job like that night after night after night? Like all great art, the film asks more questions than it answers. It may not be an easy film to watch, but it is a rewarding one which should provoke interesting discussion with whomever you watch it with. I bought the DVD immediately when it came out knowing it's a film to watch over and over. It has a terrific soundtrack, as well as Scorsese's trademark dazzling camerawork. But the soundtrack and camera work serve the story rather than just dazzle you just for the thrill of it. The DVD also has interviews with Scorsese, Joe Connelly, Nicholas Cage, Patricia Arquette, Ving Rhames and John Goodman. I thought the interviews were too short, but then I'm a greedy Scorsese fan!

Summary: Easily one of the worst movies of 1999
Review: This movie is easily one of the worst of 1999 and a major disappointment personally since I love Martin Scorsese movies. This movie is MS's failed attempt to make a Natural Born Killers type movie, which I happen to consider a great film. You see all this movie has to offer in the first five minutes. I'm in shock at how dull and boring this movie is. If you thought Leaving Las Vegas was a good movie and Nicholas Cage deserved the oscar over Sean Penn in Dead Man Walking, you'll probably like this movie. And why all the compliments on the cinematography? This movie has one style: bright white overhead lights with cut scenes of the flashing lights on the ambulance, weeeee! David Lynch couldn't have made a worse film, although The Elephant Man and Blue Velvet are exceptions.

Summary: Just got done watching it...
Review: and I loved it every minute! It was great! I was so drawn into it, I didn't want it to end. Nicholas Cage plays an ambulance driver at the end of his rope in New York City in the early 90's. Haunted by the guilt of a patient he couldn't save, he wanders the film as if in a daze, trying to make his wrongs right, and I felt like I was along for the ride. The camera work is incredible, and I found myself rewinding it just to check it out again! (I dont want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it, or I'd give specific examples) In addition, the soundtrack works great with the film, Nicholas Cage racing down the street in an ambulance with The Clash blaring in the background just works. Check it out, I think you'll dig it!

Summary: Insomniacs Should Watch It
Review: I'll keep this short. If you have ever had firsthand experience with an ambulance or EMT's, you will not like this movie. Even though Nicolas Cage and Martin Scorcese teamed up on this one, the plot is dry, and it is a fantasy. I wouldn't recommend it.
