Summary: One of the best of all time
Review: This great film is highly under rated. Only one other film this year was better (Being John Malkovich). This film is up to the great Scorsese's such as Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and of coarse Taxi Driver. People say it didn't have much of plot. It wasn;t supposed to. People who don't like this film obviously don't know and understand great film.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: I liked the book, I liked the actors, and Martin Scorcese.
Review: So I should have given it higher, but, something just fell flat. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it was just a three star move. It had it's moments, it was better than bad, but thats about it.

Summary: Bringing Out a Dead Film
Review: I am a huge Scorcese fan, and this one left me sadly disappointed. I'll be brief.

Cage talks way too fast, in a too-wooden voice. Here, screenplay dialogue is way too thick to easily drink in. In other films, Scorcese has always been able to proffer meaty and philosophical ideas, often imparted through style, setting, symbols, and cinematography. But unlike like Taxi Driver or Age of Innocence, here he depends on dialogue way too much. Scorcese usually tells a lot in visuals alone; not so in this film. Oddly un-cinematic in that respect.

Positive note: most amusing are the ER doctors who seem to be satiric (or one could say more life-like) versions of the main doctors on TV series "e.r." This is a fine little touch.

Summary: Energy-Filled Hyperkinetic Scorsese Picture!
Review: This extremely underrated film from Scorcese is a worthy effort by a gifted director. This complex film is at the same time darkly comic, and painfully surreal. Nicolas Cage recovers from a recent career slump, delivering a quietly powerful performance. The supporting cast is also unusually good, John Goodman, Ving Rhames and Tom Sizemore all create unique and believable characters that contribute to the mood of each chapter of the film. Mark Anthony is great in his first film role. Very heavy on atmosphere and it slightly resembles 'Taxi Driver' in various ways; it also shows us a man who is slowly being consumed by the death and decay of the NY City streets. A mind-numbing ride into uncomfortable territory that pays off in spades. Not as good as other Scorsese films but well worth a look. Extras: the voices on the ambulance radio are Martin Scorsese and Queen Latifah. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film an 8!

Summary: Bleak journey
Review: It is easy to see why this has been compared to Taxi Driver. The same lost soul looking for redemption, the same urban decay, the same intense yet washed out colours. I even expected that percussive music style that resonated through Taxi Driver to follow the ambulance around.

However, this is not Scorcese's best, but being Scorcese it is still worth watching Nicolas Cage's haunted descent into the edge of madness while he partners with a mixed bag of associates.

As you would expect, the acting is good. Goodman, Sizemore and Rhames play Cage's cohorts in very different styles: differnt values, different rules. But what pervades this movie is an overwhelming sense of failure: the inability to achieve something meaningful and the cycle of meaninglessness that the staff and patients of the hospital go through.

However, interspersed through the mayhem is Scorcese's humour and respect for humanity.

I guess it is one of those movies that needs more than one viewing.

Summary: For Those who dont have a clue
Review: My mom usually asks me what a movie is all about before she will watch it, and im sure plenty of you all are probably the same way, so here it goes. This guy volunteered to be an ambulance driver and ended up writing a book about his different experiences. While doing this he tried to stress the importance of reaching out and "BRINGING OUT THE DEAD" (HOMELESS AND DYING). It is an awesome storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat even though nothing really horrible actually happens, in this way it can be compared to the SIXTH SENSE a spook film. However there is a much deeper meaning to the film, the most important is a lesson in forgiveness. this movie makes you look at the truth of different situations in a different light. and even though it highly supports euthanasia in its own little way, the story still holds high impact and a great deal of interest and fascination.

Summary: Underrated Scorcese
Review: 48 hours in the life of a burned out NYC paramedic (Nicolas Cage) haunted by the patients he failed to save. Very similar in a lot of ways to Taxi Driver (also directed by Martin Scorcese). Terrific supporting performances by Ving Rhames, Aida Turturro ("The Sopranos"), but Patricia Arquette is hit and miss.

Summary: I'm not sure if I liked it or hated it...
Review: FILM REVIEW: Enormous storyline, no plot. Not a terrible combination, surprisingly enough. This film is underrated, but not oscar-worthy. I rented the DVD because I love Martin Scorsese, but this was not amongst his best work. It seemed like a failure to a recreation of Taxi Driver. The two films were strikingly similar, but Bringing out the Dead seemed to be missing out on some of the elements that made Taxi Driver such a classic. The direction is magnificent (what else could you expect) but that is basically to say the most. There is no real ending to this movie and it is fairly slow moving.

DVD REVIEW: The quality of both picture and sound seemed satisfactory. There aren't many additional features with this deal...two Trailers (previews) and that's about it.

Summary: Definitely Worth Watching
Review: Throughout his career, Nick Cage has dazzled the screen with his incredible acting skills. While recently he's been doing more and more action films, which are not nearly as good, he definitely did a great job in this movie.

Bringing Out The Dead is not a movie for people faint of heart- this dark tale of self-doubt, inner demons, and confronting these things is fairly graphic, though realistically so. It follows the life of an ambulence driver (Cage) who is really starting to lose it. His inner demons and doubt is beginning to take their toll on his sanity. Cage expresses everything from cold cynicism to utter insanity, and he does it all very well. Cage must face the stress of losing lives and not being able to help people he wanted to help, and of facing the problems the city around him has to offer.

All in all this is a very beautiful piece, with great cinematography and incredible lighting, and the soundtrack is loud and powerful. Be sure to see this- it's worth at least one viewing, if not many.

Summary: A dark drama
Review: If you like dark story lines then this might be a movie you will like.

It is about a mans trip through self doubt and despair, and confronting his inner demons. A very well written story that never dragged, and was not the standard paper thin script.
