Summary: The Hurricane Is Beautiful
Review: For whatever liberties Norman Jewison's movie takes with the "facts" (it IS a movie, after all), this film moved me like few others in 1999. No other actor could have pulled off the solitary scenes like Denzel without looking ridiculous. This is why they make movies about "true stories": if you find it compelling, you seek out other books, articles, etc. about the subject and form your own truth. Don't rely on a single Hollywood movie for all the "facts". I highly recommend the DVD; once again, a first class effort by Universal with an insightful running commentary by the Director.

Review: Denzel Washington's almost flawless performance of the inprisoned pro boxer Hurricane Carter is a complex but emotionally charged movie fueled by the powerful acting that Washington potrays this no doubt remarkable man.Who was imprisoned for almost more then 20 years Denzel plays him at first as a man who while improsioned is tired of jail life and that his life is going nowhere, until one day he decides to write a biography at first when he publishes the book noone cares or seems to wan't to until a troubled teenage young man reads it and when he does he is amazed to see that Carters life is much like his own ,as Carter struggles more and more and a disagreeable dectective is relentless in making sure the Carter is behind bars forthe rest of his life.The young boy is the only one who belives in Carters innocence in his convictions.The young boy is like a son Carter never had , the young boy and a group of mentors for the boy are determined to set Carter free no matter the cost.Denzel Washington made an academy worthy nominated performance making Carter tough and emotionally complex and vulnarable in depth he plays carter with the full extent of his ingenious acting ability almost flawless what more can Denzel do to prove to the academy that he is worth a major award, to date this is undeniably his best performance. The DVD has commantarys and a making of the riviting yet powerful film of this man who knew the truth of what risks and rewards it takes to be human and after the 2 hours and 21 minutes the one this you can say about this man is regardless weither this is accurate or not is this man fought for his life he is very human The Hurricane is a movie about humanity , hope , and the courage to face the hardships of life.

Review: What happens when you mix: A great script, a heartbreaking and epic true story, and the best acting of Denzel Washington's career... Well here it is.This movie is the true story of a boxer who was wrongly imprisioned based on race descrimination. In prision, he spends a big chunk of his life. With the help of a young man, and three Canadian activists, Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter is once again brought to trial. The young man and his friends are on a mission to set the Hurricane free. This movie is a pure example of fine storytelling, which is all a movie needs to be down-right great. There are no special effects here, or fast paced editing, just a serious heartwarming story that is hard not to enjoy. Plus with the DVD you get an EXTENSIVE list of features. The Hurricane said it best: "Hate got me in here, love is gonna bust me out." Most Highly Reccomended.

Review: I saw this movie when it came in the theatres and when I walked out, I was thinking to myself what a wonderful job that Denzel Washington did in this movie. He really sent a strong political message in this movie that unfortunatley the courts are racist and so are the police. This movie is good for someone who needs to see reality.

Review: Wow. Those were my words after I saw The Hurricane. The story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter is one of the best my movies I have ever seen. Carter's life story is a very inspiring and moving story about what happens when we hate others just because of different skin color. Denzel Washington is at his best as The Hurricane. I cannot believe he did not win an Oscar, but if people like American Beauty (Sick and Perverted, do not bother to watch this trash)that is their choice. If you like trash, go see American Beauty or South Park. But if you want to see one of the greatest movies of the 21st century, go see The Hurricane. It has everything you want. Outstanding Acting. Wonderful Script. Great Morals. You will love this Movie. A+++++++++

Summary: Denzel Washington gives performance of his career
Review: An extraordinary account of the life Reuben "Hurricane" Carter. a professional boxer of considerable talent wrongly imprisioned. There are many who essentially quibble about the historicity of the man within the fictionalized account of his life, while showing no interest in the historical accuracies regarding the American Judicial system, of which the movie's portrayal could just as easily be proven to be, if anything, an absurdly kind understatement. For all those would be historians and social critics, I suggest reading the work of investigative journalists Greg Palast (author of THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY) and the rightfully internationally celebrated Mumia Abu Jamal, along with anything found to discuss the historical accuracy of the subject matter. To all those interested in such things but come to the art form of film to be taught even greater lessons on what it is to be human, see and own this movie, showing the great Denzel Washington at his best. Brilliant.

Summary: Avoid this claptrap
Review: "The Hurricane" is not a good movie. With it's myriad of inaccuracies, it's biased approach to a real life situation, and it's utterly bland technique at story-telling, there isn't much here that you can't find in a tv movie of the week. Basically, they santize all of the ugly aspects of Reuben Carter's life, portray all the real life people involved as one-dimensional heroes and villains, and throw in some appallingly corny lines in hope to maniuplate the viewer. It infuriates me see that people think Denzel Washington was more deserving of the Oscar than Kevin Spacey, whose performance was a thousand times better. Not to disparage Mr. Washington's acting skills, but it cannot compare to the kind of power and depth Spacey's conveyed so memorably. If you want to watch a movie that doesn't provoke or excite anything in you, watch this one, and consider yourself lucky if it fades from your memory soon after it's over.

Summary: Wow! This Blew Me Away!
Review: Denzel Washington is powerful, ingenius and excellent as Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, who was wrongfully accused of murder. The excellent Vicellous Reon Shannon plays a 13 year old Canadian boy who tries his hardest to stand up for what he believes in - Rubin's innocence. This is one of the best of the year, Reon Shannon gives a powerhouse performance and Washington in his best role yet. See it.

Summary: THE HURRICANE
Review: I can't say enough good things about Denzel! Once again he has been robbed of a much deserved oscar. The movie is very good, there are a few slow parts, but Denzel makes up for it. I have never cried at different times than in this movie. Denzel has the power to make you feel what the Hurricane went through. The musical score was a master piece as well Christopher Young is a genious with the Violin. Watch this and you will see why Denzel was robbed. There is no way that anyone can see Denzel and Kevin's performance and say that Denzel didn't do a greator (much greater) acting job than Kevin. Nuff said! To Denzel.... don't let the Academy get you upset you know and the rest of America knows what is right and just!
