Summary: One of the most entertaining morality plays
Review: INDECENT PROPOSAL, along with THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves) are two of the most entertaining morality plays out there. The moral to the story, without needing to go into Christian theology or anything else is really simple: there's no such thing as a free lunch. I remember when the movie was out in the theatres and the many sound bite talk show people would ask guests and people on the street if they would do what the couple Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson did in the film; so many fools said "yes, in a heartbeat" and I wondered about the education system of our country! The line of the stylish Robert Redford when Demi Moore accused him (while slowly being seduced by him) of being a man "who likes to own things" summed up the whole movie: "You think I need to BUY women?" Redford, a man in this movie who as a billionaire has seen and caused the birth and death of multi-national corporations the size of ancient civilizations, knew EXACTLY what would happen to their marriage, and to their mind- and to her heart, if they knowingly accepted this proposal most indecent. He depended on THEIR arrogance and scoffing at the fragile nature of human relationships and the invisible architecture of the human soul; knowing, like every man (and woman) with a secret plan for another human being, that that would bring about the predictable but unexpected chain of outer events. The movie's most poignant turn, however, is when he reveals the road not taken in HIS life, with all his billions, and how that has generated much of his actions. Only then do we really discover under no uncertain terms what he wants, and what he is willing to do to get it. That really begins the falling domino of epiphanies that leads to the revealing of the gentle, fragile and beautiful hearts of all three of the characters, and the transcendent power of love, committment and surrender. It's a good guy/girl movie as well, because Woody Harrelson is so much the All-American man, full of rambunctious flaws and money problems (can't relate), where Robert Redford is, well, Robert Redford; he is the next best thing to Sean Connery's James Bond in this movie when it comes to the debonair, power- broker man the women couldn't resist if he had a 30k a year job, let alone making 30k every couple of hours. The testosterone is there. Combine that with the transformation of both of their characters because of the love of Demi Moore, who can play the dichotomous strong/weak women better than most of the Hollywood actresses out there still (if she would just take better scripts- aren't the bills paid sweetie?), and you've got more intelligent INNER action, romance and sympathy than you can shake a stick at. Worth owning. Ignore some of it's flaws (too miniscule to mention really; if you want CASABLANCA than buy that for Gawd sakes) and you'll have a great time with it- perhaps even learn something about yourself that you didn't know you knew.

Summary: Starts and ends on the wrong note
Review: It's an excellent idea - can a marriage survive a Faustian sexual pact with a millionaire? - but in this movie it doesn't work. Perhaps it's because Robert Redford and Demi Moore are not quite right for the parts, or perhaps it's because the dialogue is not sharp enough, but the viewer finds it hard both to figure out what motivates Redford and to sympathize with Moore. The portrayal of the young couple's marriage is fairly convincing, but the ending is bizarre and more appropriate to a Chevy Chase film.

Summary: MONEY TALKS...
Review: Now let's be realistic here. This film is kind of unbelievable but to tell you the truth, it is a film that is very original and classy. I remember when it first came out in the movies and the trailer and billboards were everywhere. With Sade's "No Ordinary Love" playing in the background, this filmed looked like a future Oscar nominated film. The film was very intriguing to me despite the fact i was 12 years old back then when the film was released. I never got to see it at the movies but i did buy it on VHS when it came out on video. I was blown away by the script, plot and actors. The film must have been the best film I had ever seen (mind you, i was 12). Still today, i think it is still a very good film. It'll be classic to me and it'll be considered the most vicious film about money, love and power that was ever made. I recommend it to everyone who likes romantic films.

Summary: How can any female viewer....
Review: of this movie not be angry about this film? Come on, Robert Redford asks Woody Harrelson to sell him his wife for a million bucks. HELLO? Can't Demi have an opinion on that? In the billiard room scene the two men talk about Demi as if she is some sexual pleasuring device. Plus, there is a microphone in the picture for about 3 minutes.
Other then that, the film is entertaining, but that is only because Robert Redford is in it. Brilliant casting, who needs a million bucks reward to sleep with RR, especially when compared to Woody.
Demi knows that, Robert knows that and the (female) viewer knows that. Poor Woody marvels what went wrong for a bit too long to come over as at least decent intelligent.
Good thing is that we never see Demi and Robert "doing it".
All in all the movie works in favour of RR, and that is not a bad thing.

Summary: Twisted proposal
Review: Really sick relationship, but here comes director Adrian Lyne again with another weird relationship movie, so what can you expect? A couple who really need money (Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson) agree to the sicko offer by wealthy Robert Redford to loan Demi to him for a while for a flat million bucks. The marriage falls to tatters, of course, but it's not Redford's fault. The success of the film turns on the director's ability to draw viewers in with a titillating tease and turn the experience into a provocative and thoughtful exploration of what makes a couple agree to such a thing. Interesting movie with a great cast.

Summary: NO STARS! Very bad movie....absolutely indecent !!!!
Review: The idea of a man giving into a million dollar offer to allow his wife a one nighter, with the proposing businessman, is absolutely indecent! This is the core of the story. Because of the married couple's financial woes, the husband feels that the money will save them and is more important than what's really at stake....the union and honor between the two! The film ends with the couple emotionally drained and, subsequently, divorcing (this is no surprise)! This film is a waste of time and is degrading....avoid this movie, indefinitely! It sends out a very immoral message to viewers.

Summary: A powerful proposal!!!
Review: The ultimate "would you???" This is a unusual film that really plays on one's morals, Woody Harrelson & Demi Moore are very believable as a young married couple who like most start out with dreams that soon become a nightmare, his job heads south as does hers in a time where they are in over their heads with a unfinished house & tons of debt that they can no longer afford, feeling scared of losing everything they head to Las Vegas in the hopes of winning a fortune, they win & soon lose their winnings, then they meet John Gage (Robert Redford) who developes a fixation on Moore, he is a multi-millionare who makes his aquantance with Harrelson & Moore & begins to test their morality by proposing 1,000,000.00 to have her for one night, this is the answer to all their problems, so they think, it soon becomes apparent that it will do more damage than good, I think anyone in this position would think about it, even if you decided NO, the effects are devestating to say the least in that he no longer trust her, & they split, but in the end they can't stop loving each other, it is a question that every married couple would comteplate, but is a question of one's morality & commitment as well as one's love, Demi Moore looks good here & Harrelson is good as the fustrated husband, & Redford is as good as ever.

Review: This is without a doubt one of the most romantic films I have ever seen. It reigns supreme in my collection. This film is not about money - far from it, it is about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think initially John Gage felt that Diana would have been a pushover and blinded by all his billions but she was no easy feat which he soon understood with serious consequences. I am sure both John & Diana were secretly asking themselves why they didn't meet sooner. Havent we all found ourselves in that position at some point in our lives.
The way John seduced Diana was amazing. Did anyone see the way he held her eyes at the Craps table, or when they went to his house or what about when he was on the boat with her. He was amazingly funny and at other times deadly serious and that's what was so touching.
I think deep down Diana really fancied John but found it difficult to cope with the guilt of leaving her husband. Let's face it, he was no competition for John. Robert Redford has always been one of my favourite actors. He has the ability to take on various roles which unfortunately a lot of today's actors can't do. As for him offering $1 million dollars to sleep with him, I would have given him change out of a dollar !!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: This movie is definitely a treasure, beautifully acted, beautifully filmed, its the kind of movie that stays with you. I can't say much about the movie that hasn't already been said except that I recommend the soundtrack also, the movie score is excellent.
