Rating: Summary: GREAT Movie Review: I, actually go to Carlmont High School in Northern California right now. Carlmont is the school in which this movie is based on. I had always heard from parents who attended Carlmont back when it was much different, and it was hard for me to believe that my school could have been so terrible. After I saw Dangerous Minds which was made about the directors experience at Carlmont high school, I am shocked. It's hard to believe that there was so much violence and drugs. Nowadays Carlmont still has those factors, yet it is improved greatly. The school in the movie is absolutely nothing like it is today. I'm glad for the improvement!
Rating: Summary: My School! Review: I, actually go to Carlmont High School in Northern California right now. Carlmont is the school in which this movie is based on. Rating: Summary: It had a good theme but there was too much bad language. Review: It was great! I really enjoyed it but If there weren't so much bad language I would be a little more pleased.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie!! Review: Michelle Pfeiffer is one of my favorite actresses. I have loved this movie for several years. When I noticed the DVD at [a local store] a few weeks ago I just had to have it. So I was thrilled when I got it for my birthday. I just wish that the theatrical trailer was included on the special features section. But I am glad that the music video Gangsta's Paradise is on the DVD. This film is one of Michelle Pfeiffer's best movies. If you like this movie you should also watch What Lies Beneath which stars Michelle Pfeiffer.
Rating: Summary: Not Bad/ Not Perfect Either! Review: Michelle Pfeiffer plays LouAnne Johnson an ex-Marine teaching a inner-city school. I thought the movie had a good message but, I saw a lot of "Lean on Me" elements, and that's what didn't make it very original in my opinion. I thought that Michelle did a wonderful job, and it's a very inspirational movie. I guess that I just expected more than that. I can say that it is based on actual events that happened so, that's a plus.
Rating: Summary: DANGEROUSLY INSPIRING Review: Michelle Pfeiffer stars in this wondrful movie about a ex-marine who desperatly wants to teach, so takes on the job of teaching a group of troubled teenagers. As time progresses, the teacher starts to learn that the only way to get the children to understand what she wants them to, is to reward them after they do what she asks.
Rating: Summary: THESE MINDS AREN'T DANGEROUS THEIR JUST NOT AT ALL APPEALING Review: Michelle Pfeiffer who is very talented and very beautiful failed to move me here as an ex-marine who becomes an English Teacher at an tough inner-city school where she confronts freaks and viloent students who don't want to learn. The message here is the fact that kids who are mouthy and think that they are tough have a right to do what they want, kind of stupid to see this film now and think it would actually make an impact on today's youth, with it's bland and unbelivable wish fullfilment. I don't see how poetry can tame tough, restive delinquents. Half hour into the film you will feel dissallusined on why you rented this video, and by the end you will throw the VCR or DVD out the window with the movie follwing behind it. Now that's a dangerous mind.
Rating: Summary: The greatest high school student movie ever made! Review: Nowadays, high school movies are just crude and gross humor filled (i.e. The New Guy which wasn't a bad movie at all), but in 1995, a little movie called "Dangerous Minds" came out. This was a very beautiful movie. I loved every second of it. The storyline was very good. Michelle Pfeiffer (Pre- I Am Sam and Up Close and Personal) stars as an ex-Marine who is interested in being a substitute teacher to a SMART kid class. But she is placed as the sub teacher of a bunch of urban-ghetto students. The students at first don't like her, but they grow on her as they do on her. The storyline is similar to "Stand and Deliver" but don't consider this as a sequel or an imitation. This movie is awesome! I will love this movie forever. This movie also has a great hiphop/r&b/rap soundtrack that was a hit in 95. There were some good movies that came out in 95, but this was the very best. I don't know why this movie did not get an Oscar nomination! The only objectionable content in this movie is the language which there is a little bit of but not vulgar or pervasive as some movies are today. The MPAA rated this R for language. Get this movie instantly on DVD. This is a must see for all junior high and high school students. Some elementary school students might be interested in this movie but I'm sure it won't be a must see for them. I highly recommend this movie to all ages unless you don't want your young kids (mostly 9 and below) to hear the profanity, then don't let them, but this is the best drama I have ever viewed. If you are looking for a more suitable movie for your young kids instead of "DM" then get the also a must see "Stand and Deliver" which is rated PG for some mild language!
Rating: Summary: An upfront and personal review of "Dangerous Minds" Review: The movie was filmed at my school where I was the lead science teacher. The classroom they used was mine which made the theme all that more realistic. For most children in problem areas is is a miracle just to get to school alive or undaunted and "Dangerous Minds" extracts this exact fear. I thouroughly enjoyed watching the movie being filmed but more so when it was brought to the screen.
Rating: Summary: I'm white and I found this movie racially offensive. Review: They should have called this movie, 'The Great White Hope'. It has a good premise, but every character is a stereotype and the end messege is that the African Americans and Hispanic heathens of the inner cities need a white teacher to come and teach their children cause they are incapable of teaching and positively parenting their children themselves. I'm sorry, but I found this movie preachy and bigoted to the extreme. ...
