Summary: sexy yet from a woman's point of view.
Review: Zalman King, the director who brought you the red shoe diaries and wild Orchide, once again makes a sucessful and steamily erotic movie. Delta of Venus is an incredible film, not just beacuase it is a sexy, but beacause it draws its sensuality from the woman's perspective. Set in pre-WWII the film entices the viewer back to a by gone time. A time set right before the Nazi's would come.

Sex and death and odd pairing, but one in which your passions will rise...

Enjoy:

David

Summary: Visual poetry
Review: "Delta of Venus" is beautifully filmed. The production values are exquisite. The acting is excellent. The character development is strong. And, yes, it is truly erotic. Beautifully and sensually erotic. The voice-over is softly and touchingly done, and the narration itself uses very poetic language. The editing is first rate. This is not just a good erotic movie. It's a good movie period. I warn you, though. You must be in the right frame of mind to appreciate it. You have to be mentally and emotionally prepared to immerse yourself in this beautiful delirium. I'm a harsh critic of so-called erotic films (check out my review of "The Image"). So believe me when I say, this one is a real winner!

Summary: Good interpretation for the modern eroticist
Review: Anyone familiar with the erotica of Anais Nin (and equally familiar with the fact that despite modern mythology, this was NOT her chosen genre)will appreciate this adaptation by Zalman King. The director is certainly in his element with the subject matter: a young woman's foray into sexual discovery. It is a visually provocative, if intellectually light film. The seductiveness is aided by beautiful (B-list) actors, lavish sets, and haunting music. The story is almost unrecognizable when compared to the original written material, but then it IS Hollywood. However, A.N. afficianados with recognize many of the references and appreciate the sincerity in the attempt to capture the emotions and passions in her work. However, do not expect the original author's writing style to be interpreted. The writing in this becomes stilted in it's effort to string together abstract, isolated scenes. It will insult your intelligence (if you have any) by playing almost entirely to the visual. However, if you are in the mood to relax and let yourself be drawn along a passionate path of sumtuousness and eroticism, then this is the vehicle for you!

Summary: Well photographed, beautiful locations
Review: But ultimately unsatisfying. The acting is extremely average. The plot is very underplayed; in fact, too underplayed. Even the erotic aspect of the movie loses its charm early on. I dunno. I don't think Anais Nin would've approved of this adoption of her work.

Summary: SUPERB!
Review: Delta of Venus was superb. Elana Martin: (Audie England) was a beautiful American writer of erotica who lived in paris. She falls in love with an impecably handsome French novelist of erotica named Lawrence, played by: (Costas Mandylor). This sensual erotic, heart pulsating, thrilling to the senses movie, will leave you in a world wind of passion & emotions. When Lawrence left for N.Y., he kept tabs on Elana through her publisher. He became an anonymous reader of her writings, criticizing the lack of detailed sex in her stories. Still not knowing the identity of the anonymous reader, she continue to strive to do her best in her writings, by experiencing and viewing many kinds of sexual liaisons. After she mastered the art, he congradulated her. Lawrence returned to paris to reveal his love for her. He soon learned that Elana wasn't the same shy girl he had left. The wild passion she experienced in her sexual awakenings, erupt all over Lawrence just before her swift departure from paris. A true love story. I recommend it.

Summary: Intelligent AND hot!!
Review: For those who think erotica can't be HOT and intelligent, 'Delta of Venus' will be a very pleasant surprise. The protaganist explores an array of erotic scenarios in pre-WWII Europe and plays with the balance of danger and tension as a writer and a woman.

This movie is a great one to share at home alone with your mate or watch with friends on a home-movie night.

Review: I am a big fan of Zalman King's efforts...see my other reviews about the Red Shoe Diaries Movie, and Girl on a Bike. This movie is special, and it makes you feel special...it slowly and consistently spoonfeeds you erotica rather than shoving it down your throat, and intelligent erotica, at that. The characters are quite doable--is that Costas Mandylor? Bestill my heart! I was satisfied with the ending too. Of all of Zalman King's stuff, I think the only full-length feature I like better than this one is the Red Shoe Diaries Movie. Enjoy yourself!

Review: I saw this video and thought that it was pretty good. I only watched it to see Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. He was the clairvoyant. The African who could predict things. I thought that he was very attractive and sexy. This is the only and most important part of the video to me. I'm waiting for it to come on DVD so that I can press menu and go to the most interesting part---adewale.
