Summary: Thoughts on Drumline
Review: The movie was entertaining, but I would have enjoyed it more if I were 16. As an adult I had no sympathy for the main character. Ever. His attitude was overdone and annoying.
What I liked about the movie was the phenomenal drumming, the choreography, and the introduction to mainstream society of a little recognized competition. I recommend the movie -- but not for it's acting.

Summary: A new concept...
Review: I would rate this story with 4 stars solely on the basis of originality. Not saying that the movie is unpredictable, but you NEVER see a movie, or even an after-school TV special about a marching band. The only other recently released film that even made a reference to high school marching band life is "American Pie." As an alumnus from the high-steppin', all music memorizin', showstoppin' Mount Vernon High School Marchin' Knights, I found the actors/characters true to reality. I saw this movie with an old bandmember friend of mine and we both felt that it captured the different dynamics between band members of different ranks as well as the relationship between the band leader and his students. If the movie lacks anything it is the element of complete surprise, but somehow the story is still entertaining, the music is presented well, and it portrays a very positive aspect of African-American life on screen with accuracy. Oh...all right, the movie gets 3 3/4 stars!

Summary: filled with non-stop excitement
Review: Drumline brings back memories of high school and college band competitions and all the adrenaline that goes into the preparation for a show. I am not just saying that because I am from Georgia and grew up in the band, :) but the world should know how intense black bands are and the passion we have for our music! I can't wait until it comes out on DVD! Where can I preorder?

Summary: It's the rhythm
Review: The film is great.. I was especially taken with the intricate and spirited rhythms of the marching bands' drum music and with the witty and wild correography that these bands feature. If you like music, rhythm, youthful bravado you'll be jumping out of your seat right from the beginning.

Summary: I Can Appreciate
Review: Listen, if you are a musician or if you are or have been in a marching band at any point in your life, this movie is definitely a must see for you. I am a drummer of about 19 years and I was about to come out of my seat at the end of the movie. I won't tell what happened, though. The musicianship within this movie is excellent and it just gives us a little insight into the lives of band members who attend historically black colleges. I will say that the storyline was a bit cliche'. Boy goes off to school, boy meets girl, boy and girl get together, boy and girl breakup, boy and girl get back together, and boy gets redemption at the end. So if you're looking for a fresh storyline, it's not there. Nick Cannon does do an excellent job of playing a talented but arrogant snare drummer who just doesn't seem to get it. He's talented but he lied on his application in order to secure a scholarship and when he got to A&T(Not North Carolina) he was an arrogant jerk who didn't know how to listen, but eventually-not to mention predictably-he mellowed out and got another chance. The choreography of the bands and their dancers is A-1 material. It doesn't get much better than that. Overall I give this movie a B, simply because of the musicianship within the movie and the acting of Nick Cannon. The storyline brought the grade down, because I would have given it an A. Peace

Summary: Calling All Band Geeks.
Review: Being a percussionist and having been part of the drumline in high school, I was really looking forward to seeing DRUMLINE. The film wasn't quite what I expected but was enjoyable nonetheless. The plot is true to formula, but the script is written in such a way that it makes the formula seem fresh and full of vigor. Many of the cast acted together in REMEMBER THE TITANS, but the best acting is performed by neither them or Nick Cannon. My favorite actor in this film was Orlando Jones: he captures the part of Dr. Laws perfectly. I was hoping for more actually drumming than occurred in the movie, but I really can't complain. After all, now there finally a movie about marching bands. It's a band geeks delight.

Summary: Drumline
Review: I saw the movie drumline last night and loved it! I am in the marching band at my high school and i wish we could be half as good as some of those bands. This has to be one of the best movies i've seen in a long time. Nick did an awesome job in the movie and i give it a thumbs up. If you dont like music than i dont suggest going to see it...but i love the movie. It didnt have alot of cursing or anything like that. It was a movie that teens could go and watch it with their friends or family!

Summary: Good, but not great...
Review: I had high expectations for this film, so I went to see it, and it wasn't as good as I had thought it would be. It's basically just a retread of other teen dramas that we have ALL SEEN BEFORE. The movie does have a few sparks of originality, and the music isn't bad either. The choreography of the drumline performances is superb, and almost worth the ticket price.

Almost.
