Rating: Summary: Quite possibly the worst movie EVER made. Review: Cocktail really could be one of the worst fiascos ever committed to celluloid. Unless you are someone who thinks that Tom Cruise is just dreamy or have some kind of mental disorder you should avoid this film at all costs. The (yawn) story revolves around some [unintelligent] (no seriously the character is not intelligent) bartender that spends more time juggling bottles than pouring drinks to patrons that seem to care less about actually getting service at the bar. He is mentored by an even [less intelligent person] (this one seems to come from overseas) who instills his limited wisdom in the form of this bizzare set of laws. Special negative points are awarded to the film for the scenes where Cruise climbs up onto the bar to recite some kind of awful freestyle bar poetry to the customers. If you ever wondered if you could fit under your sofa then watch theses scenes because that is exactly where you'll want to crawl to escape the horror. The point of all this you ask...I have absolutely no idea. The reality is I've haven't sat through a film that was so laugh-out-loud bad since "Flash Gordon." The one redeeming quality of the picture is the relationship with the Elizabeth Shue character. Now bear with me for a moment because I know that on the surface this on-screen romance reeks like old goat cheese but it really is fascinating. I have always wondered what those really good looking but mentally challenged people talked about when they dated one another. You always knew it was nothing of merit but my curiosity has still always lingered until this film. Now it all makes sense, they talk about mundane and trivial stuff (similar to what you talked about in junior high school) that requires the brainpower of a six year old to comprehend. I could go on and on in more explicit detail but you get the point. This movie is B A D. If you want to see a nice good romantic movie from the eighties go get Pretty Woman.
Rating: Summary: Definitly the worst big budget film in history. Review: As an undergrad I saw this at a free showing on campus and still felt ripped off. This film had shallow characters, a non-existent plot, and terribly weak acting per dollar required for the stars ( even if it was early in their careers this is the sort of thing that would never have gone to the theaters without a big name to hook to it and if it had been straight to video would have had minimum wage actors, that latter would not have diminished the outcome.) While the film does touch on some serious human issues, deire for the brass ring, the lure of infidelity, class conflict, ect, it deals with it on a three year old's level of understanding. Tom goes from being a moronic but ambitious child playing in someone elses sandbox to being a moronic child with his own sandbox and a wife who will flee as soon as she realizes what she has gotten herself into. Save your brain cells and don't ware out your gag reflex.
Rating: Summary: The Best Tom Cruise Movie Review: Tom Cruise stars as a small time want-to-be-rich bar tender who goes down to Jamaica to start his own bar and meets a girl named Jordan (Shue). They fall in love and some problems occur. See what they are. The movie is about love, friendship, care, and comedy.
Rating: Summary: FOR THE BARTENDER IN EVERYONE!!!! Review: Great movie....acting could be better, but a plot about the life as a bartender, not quite as good as 'Bar Fly' with Mickey Rourke, but good flick.
Rating: Summary: O.K Movie Review: Cocktail is not one the greatest movies out there. The plot here is sort of a mess especially at the beginning. I mean Tom Cruise had his big role at that time in Rain Man one the best movies ever made in my opinion but this movie Cocktail is just O.K. I think practically anyone could have been in that role of Tom Cruise and it would have not made a difference whether Micheal J. Fox, Patrick Swayze, or Bruce Willis big late 80's actors could have played that role of Tom Cruise and the movie still would have been a mess. The problem here is stupidity in the script Cocktail just centers around Tom Cruise juggling wine bottles and throwing glasses around. I mean in my opinion the movie gets better later on the beginning just gets on my nerves because it is so egotistical but it does get a little better there is some moral to the story at the end. This is just your typical mid 80's film.
Rating: Summary: tom cruise lives up to razzie award winner status Review: This is one of the worst acted and moronic story lines ever written. I might have enjoyed this movie had I been in junior high. Unfortunately, the first time around I was in high school. But who could ever forget those cleverly crafted one-liners, "champangne, perfume going in... sewage coming out." Say this the next time your at a bar-- watch your friends disappear.
Rating: Summary: Cocktails & Dreams Review: The story behind this film is a real hedonistic example of what most blokes would love to do. Hardly any responsibility being a bar-tender, except to those you tend - and all the while having a great time. The plot is thin which is why it is so easy to understand and this is what makes the film - the moment you have to think about a film like this, is the moment you miss the point. The soundtrack is great, and the movie soundtrack CD is missing some of the best songs from the film too, the best one when Tom and Elizabeth get frisky under the waterfall in Jamaica (Jimmy Cliff - Shelter of Your Love). Overall, most people can relate to many aspects of this movie, and many of the situations the characters are in such as hope, love, lust, vacations to hot tropical places, and of course at the end - family. Great film - you must see it if you haven't already!
Rating: Summary: Oldie But Goodie Review: This is just an overall great movie. It was one of Tom's best movies, if not his best. Elizabeth Shue also makes the film what it is. The bar scenes are great. If you haven't seen this movie, you're missing out.
Rating: Summary: Whatever Were They Thinking Review: Whatever were they thinking when they dreamed up this one!? What's next, a movie glorifying busboys??
Rating: Summary: Well... Review: Yeah, Yeah, everybody calls this movie bad, but I thought it was kind of fun. But, the plot dosen't stay on track. Bryan Brown is great as always, but he can't even save this one. Still watchable but what a shame!
