Rating: Summary: A better movie than cynics will tell you Review: Look all 'ya cynics. This movie operates on an emotional level. But it's not a manipulative tearjerker. I had low expectations going in to see this movie. Afterall, the trailer for this movie had me thinking that this must be an empty teen fluff movie with lots of eye candy. Things started changing as I became more drawn into the Dunst character. I found her acting quite believable and I found myself caring about what was going on with her in this movie. It's not like that normally with other movies this summer. I was routing for the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park! I've heard other criticism about the ending. I thought the movie would take a wrong turn here. The ending was surprisingly good. Whether it was melodramatic as some critics contend is opinion, not fact. I personally like it. Another potshot is the one that says that there's no way that the Dunst character would've/ could've seen the light and turned her life around because of Jay. Oh really? My answer is that, yes, it's believable for her. The Dunst character does not represent every 17 year old girl. She is one girl. And, besides, is every 17 year old as predictable as some old guys writing movie reviews believe? Go to the MRQE website and look up the Salon review. They got it right. This movie is probably not for everyone. It's possible that you may not "get" this movie if you are set in thinking this movie must be a dud (blame the trailer), if you hate chick flicks (this one probably is), or if you reel from the sight of people acting non-appropriately. For those of you out there who don't like this movie, what movie was better? This isn't a perfect movie, but it's one of the very few memorable ones so far this year...
Rating: Summary: Very Touching Movie Review: This movie was great. I could really relate to Kirsten Dunst's character because my parents wentthrough almost the same thing. I think it was really nice to see that other people have step-moms that dont care. This is something that everyone should see.
Rating: Summary: Good acting and focused Plot kept this movie afloat Review: Going into this movie, you felt like it was going to be about interracial couples and the hardships they would have had to go though, but the movie wasn't really focusing on that issue. This movie mainly revolves around the inner struggle of one girl's loves and loss. Nicole, played by Kirsten Dunst, takes her first step toward a better life when she meets a focused and level headed young man played by Jay Hernandez. The movie's plot is very captivating. It does a great job bringing us into the world of a several individual's life and does so with a very realistic approach. There isn't a bad guy in the film, just many misunderstood characters that don't always agree with our main character's views. The movie let's you agree with some of the conflicting character's ideas. The movie itself flows very well, with the exception of a few random events that occur in the movie that for the most part could have been avoided, as they had no real ties to the plot. There are some movies that can pull off random scenes, but this one could have done without. For instance, after Nicole starts dating Carlos, there is a scene where Nicole bumps into a Latino girl at school where the girl begins to wale on Nicole about watching where she is going. The scene doesn't really tell you much about why or what for. The only connection to that scene and the plot was that the girl she bumped into was Mexican and it pretty much stops there. Maybe they wanted to show the audience that Nicole had no connections to the Mexican community and that how uncommon her life was from Carlos. Either way that scene could have been omitted because we get that alienating feeling through many other scenes in the movie. All and all, this s a gritty and in your face look at problems that potentially face (if not faced already) many teens today. How love and loss have a great impact on young individuals. The connections of the characters, if it be with Nicole and Carlos or Nicole and her father, are superb. Kirsten Dunst breaks through her bubbly persona that she has played before (Bring It On, Drop Dead Gorgeous and Get Over It) and delivers a superb serious performance. And former MTV "Undressed" star Jay Hernandez does a great job as a character struggling to keep his own life in check from which he came such a hard life. Chick flick, maybe. Movie that is done very well, definitely.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, yet tragic Review: Crazy/Beautiful is one of the best movies I've seen since Pearl Harbor. It's very emotional with a lot of love. A top student named Carlos meets a girl named Nicole who is spoiled because of her mother's tragic death. Their love reaches to unpredictable results. Carlos is losing his hopes in his future to become a pilot at the U.S. Naval Academy as Nicole finds herself in trouble and alcololic related disasters. Crazy/Beautiful is a great summer movie. One star for Jay Hernandez as the hard working Carlos and I'm looking forward to his next movie. One star for Kirsten Dunst in her brilliant portrayal as the troubled Nicole. One star for a great romance story between Carlos and Nicole. One star for brilliant directing. One star for the ending. (I won't tell you the ending. You have to see it for yourself) 5 stars is my rating and there is no reason why you cannot rate this movie one star. (Unless you are a little kid or a person who prefers other types of movies!)
Rating: Summary: The 'crazy' Kristen, the 'beautiful' Dunst! Review: This movie is a twist of fate to me. I thought it was going to be a silly stupid teen movie, but it was really one of the best teen flick I ever saw. Kristen Dunst(BRING IT ON) plays a troubled rich girl who likes to party and is very bad in school. Jay Hernandez plays a straight latino "A" student meets Kristen and they fall in love. Though Kristen Dunst's father in the movie makes a twisted spin in a love teen movie. He tells Jay to stay away from his daughter. Not because her dad didn't like him he said that she was wrong for him. He was a good student and he didn't want him to ruin his grades. This is a true hearted movie and you will love it. I definitly recommend this to teens everywhere to go and see this movie. You will come out of the theatre and makes you feel good. You and your boyfriend.
Rating: Summary: An awesome movie! Review: This movie is about bad girl Nicole (Kirsten Dunst) and Mexican Carlos (Jay Hernandez). Rapidly they start to fall in love and form a relationship. Nicole is a little rich girl who (by the way, looks a mess in the film) who can do whatever she wants, but on the th other hand Carlos who makes straight A's to make something of himself and wants to be a pilot for his career. As their relationship tightens, they are soon being rejected by public and have to keep their love a secret. This movie is great! A great comedic, romantic film!
Rating: Summary: Interesting.... Review: This movie was very interesting, it kept your focus very well. It had a good plot and just enough comedy mixed with sadness. I think that Kirsten Dunst needed to wear a bra, and that their were to many shots of her breasts. .... Overall, A 4 star movie for performances. Jay Hernendez is a great actor
Rating: Summary: Sleeper of the summer Review: Due to the bad rap teen movies are getting now a days more mature audiences tend to avoid anything where the participants are barely old enough to grow facial hair. The fact that this film aslo features Kirsten Dunst, current teen bubble gum queen with films like Bring it On under her belt will also serve as a deterrent. Having said that Crazy/Beautiful is a surprisingly intelligent portrayl of teen angst. In this film Kirsten Dunst plays a rich girl, who rides her self destructive nature for all it's worth. (Since this movie is rated PG-13 the drug use is implied rather then shown). She hooks up with Carlos (Jay Hernandez), whose a straight A student just trying to make his way in this topsy turvy world. The story line is so completely trite that you almost feel guilty for enjoying it's results. (Two complete opposites how ever will it work?) But the stylish direction of the film, and the sincere and engaging performances by all it's particpants maintains an emotional truth to the film that keeps you engaged in what's happening. To call this film a light hearted romance is to dismiss the finer points completely. This film deals with issues of identity, racial attitudes, and the things we do to escape who we are. If for no other reason, people should stand up and take notice of this film as a result of the incredible performance turned in by Kirsten Dunst. If this film hadn't been written off by film critics as a 'teen movie' she would be this year's first legitmate Oscar contender. Crazy/Beautiful is done in the same vein as films such as Over the Edge and other edgier fare from the prepubescent genre. By cutting out a great deal of the edgier material the studio was able to present this film to a younger audience, but may have inadvertantly deterred the people this film was meant for.
Rating: Summary: Good But Could Have Been Better Review: The movie was definately a girlie one but had some very good parts but themes should have been emphasised throught the movie such as her taking pills but the movie is still good but it might be smart to wait until it comes out on video to rent it instead of paying big bucks to see it in the theater
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I just went with a friend to see this movie last night. When I saw the previews it looked pretty good but I wasn't sure. I got a big surprise.... it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Kirsten Dunst plays a troubled seniour who's always getting wasted at parties. Her father is very weathly so you can imagine what kind of school she goes to. Jay Hernandez plays the complete opposite until he meet Nicole (Kirsten Dunst). After that, his whole life turns around. Although Carlos (Jay Hernandez) is a 17 year old latino and Nicole is a white rich girl. They find true love and fight to keep it alive even with Nicoles problem and the riticules. If you like a good love story once in a while you definetly want to go see this movie! It is rated pg-13 because there is intamasy if you know what I mean and very few cuss-words.
