Summary: If they had 6 Stars, C/B would be worthy!
Review: Crazy/Beautiful is one hell of a film! I went in on three motivating factors: Kirsten Dunst, Kirsten Dunst, and the 2-thumbs-up from Ebert&Roeper. As I entered the theatre I was still debating wether I wanted to see this or Cats&Dogs. But that other movie I saved for a date with my loved one. I saw the Early Bird special (first showing of the day - paid less for it) and regret doing so as this movie is well worth the $8.50+ that you might pay for an evening showing. I also regret this choice due to the fact that four immature teens commented ALOUD on the movie throughout its length! Anyway, Kirsten Dunst again proves that she is by far 'THE' ACTRESS. The only and the best actress in all of Hollywood, no exceptions! Yes, she has grown up from her "Claudia" roots in "Interview With The Vampire" and she has maintained her stamina and improved in many ways with her growth into the world that has become her toy.

crazy/beautiful is as good as (I am not comparing, just rating quality here) American Beauty, Braveheart, Terminator 2, Men In Black, or The Matrix. That does not mean it is LIKE these movies or that it is a combination thereof, only that quality and satisfaction of experience is as good as those movies. It makes you WANT to see it again (especially if some stupid kids were chatting behind you and would NOT shut up).

I, for one, plan to see this movie again and pay FULL price for it happily! I also plan to buy the DVD when it comes, as there has been mention of "removed scenes to get a PG-13 rating" (which does not harm the story in any way) that I am hoping will be on the DVD.

Summary: Crazy/Beautiful
Review: Crazy/Beautiful is a groundbreaking emotional story about two young lovers, Carlos(Jay Hernandez) and Nicole(Kirsten Dunst), on the opposite sides of the spectrum. Carlos is a straight-A-student whose priorities are to graduate and gain acceptance into the naval academy. Nicole is a disgruntled 17-year-old whose priorities include finding distractions to cope with the loss of her mother. She has no college ambition, she likes to get lost in wide variety of drugs and sexual activities and she swears she will never trust anyone again after her mother's suicide. When Carlos meets Nicole for the first time, he finds her "scary" because she is extremely unpredictable with her wild behavior. Nicole falls strangely in love with Carlos and believes that they should always be together. When Carlos finds himself in the position in which he must choose between Nicole and his school work, he chooses her. The two fall madly in love and a number of situations fall into play because of this. This movie was one of the most emotional pieces Kirsten Dunst has ever been in and it describes a situation far beyond the comprehension of anyone who was not actually in one. I think she executed the role perfectly. Jay Hernandez gave an excellent performance as well as the young, determined Latino boy in love. I thought this was an excellent movie and I hope you do too.

Summary: A story about the transforming power of love
Review: This is not your normal Hollywood movie with a contrived happy ending to please the box office. It is a convincing story of redemption and the transforming power of unselfish and uncompromising love. There aren't too many movies made where this theme is portrayed in such a powerful and believable manner. I loved this movie, and the ending is exhilarating and beautiful. I wish there were more movies like this that illustrate the human spirit at its finest. This is a little movie compared to something like Shawshank Redemption, but it has that same celebration of the strength of the human spirit and of people doing the right thing in the face of almost unbelievable adversity that Shawshank has.

Summary: typically unrealistic and predictable
Review: I walked out after 34 grueling minutes. Hmm, another movie with the white rich female and the romantic lower class hispanic male. Would someone please save ME??? My advice: save your pennies and wait for video release. Then when one of your friends rents it, go over and see it for free.

Summary: In love!
Review: I love this movie! I admit when I first saw the commercial I thought it looked ridiculously stupid. However, I watched it one night because my friend told me it was actually a very good movie. That was 3 years ago and this movie still ranks as one of my favorite movies. (I am not one of those people that have 100 favorite movies either) I love everything about it. It seems like a realistic version of Romeo and Juliet yet not like it at all. It definitely presents the theme of star-crossed lovers but is not overdone or just plain cheesy. This movie is how most of my friends and I, who are teenagers, view teenage love and relationships, without the racial differences. I love the way Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez work together throughout the movie. Kirsten Dunst definately nails the role she is in. I just love it and I think if you give it a chance you will love it as well.

Summary: AWFUL!
Review: This is by far the worst movie i have ever seen in my life. It is boring and stupid. I wish i could give it less than one star. Kirsten Dunst plays some so of crazy lady that is always getting in trouble and taking pictures. Nothing really big happens. I have never prayed harder for the credits in my life. DONT SEE THIS MOVIE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Thanks for reading my non biased review of this film.

Summary: Plumb Loco
Review: The story of young lovers from the opposite side of the tracks is certainly not a new one for a film to tackle. In fact, sometimes it seems as though there's a new variation on the Romeo and Juliet plot, every year or so. Given that ratio, it's up to the actors involved, to really make the movie worthwhile and not just the recycled plot that it is. Overall Crazy/Beautiful gets it both right and wrong.

Nicole (Kirsten Dunst) is the 17-year-old troubled daughter of wealthy congressman Tom Oakley (Bruce Davidson), who never met a rule she didn't break. Carlos (Jay Hernandez) is an A-student with big dreams who endures a two-hour bus ride every morning to attend high school in an upscale L.A. neighborhood. What begins as innocent flirtation, quickly develop into passionate love, but Nicole's self-destructive behavior threatens their relationship and puts Carlos' promising future in jeopardy. Despite the objections of both family and friends, the couple vow to be together.

The screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, is as one would expect, pretty much by the numbers. The cliches take hold and never allow for any real surpises. Dunst (whom I have always had a not so secret thing for) does have good chemistry with rising star Hernandez (Friday Night Lights). It's a shame that the duo didn't have a better script though. Director (Blue Crush) and one time actor (Christine, Top Gun), John Stockwell knows his target audience well--and caters to their expectations as well. Edgey camera work and a popular song soundtrack are just two examples of what I mean. Ho Hum...

The DVD has a handful of extras, most of which, do nothing to enhance the film's shortfalls. As witnessed in the 15 minutefeaturette, "Blurring Fiction And Reality: The Making Of Crazy/Beautiful, it's nothing more than a fluff piece about the movie. The 5 deleted scenes, with optional commentary show you a few cuts that occured to lose some character bits, but nothing too important. An audio commentary with Stockwell and Dunst is saved by the perky actress, thanks to her humor. Wraping it all up is the theatrical trailer with audio commentary(?) Say what!!

Crazy/ Beautiful is worth a look--if only for Dunst and Hernandez. Just don't expect the film to break new ground in the teen drama genre.

Summary: another teen movie...
Review: I heard that there was a surprise twist to tthis movie...so that's the main reason I decited to see it (besides the fact that Kirsten's in the movie and I like her too).... bu I found this movie to be too dull and depressing...too many dark colors on the screen, and the ending didn't affect me at all.

Summary: a good feel good movie for teens, but rather shallow
Review: I was just flipping through the channels the other night and caught the beginning of this film. It looked like some cheaply made after-school special and so I just thought I'd watch some of it just out of curiousity. But I have to admit that the more I watched, the more I fell under the film's spell. On the whole, it is not a bad movie but I think the message it sends is shallow.

I can understand why teens in particular would like films like this, particularly those "free spirit" or "rebel" types. Basically, the message is that love conquers all. In this film we see two teens who have absolutely nothing in common fall in love with one another. The girl is a rich white brat who does nothing but party and get drunk. The boy is a poor hispanic kid who works hard to do well in school and has dreams of getting into Anapolis to become a Navy pilot. They first meet each other on the beach and from that time on they start hanging out with one another. Very early in the relationship, we see signs that the girl is no good for him. The girl is a wild party animal and he is a clean-cut, upright and studious guy. Against his mother and brother's wishes he continues to hang out with the troubled girl. Even the girl's father recommends that he stay away from his daughter due to the fact that she will do nothing but take everything away that he worked so hard for.

After a point in the film, the girl becomes somewhat disillusioned to the fact that she is just wasting her life away and questions whether or not she is really good enough for him. But this is only temporary.

The problems I have with this film are the following:

1) It doesn't emphasize some of the dangers associated with teen drug use.

2) The girl's behavior didn't get her in to enough trouble. It was almost depicted as ok behavior for teens.

3) The film does not illustrate some of the dangers of involving yourself with people who really don't have anything in common with you and more often than not are up to no good.

4) One of the messages the films seems to send is that it's alright to follow your animalistic desires and everything will fall into place ok.
