Review: This is not a movie; this is liberal propaganda for socialized medicine. The little boy gets a heart and his Daddy goes to jail for forcing the system to give him one. In Canada or England the little boy just dies.

Review: I really enjoyed the movie but I feel the medical scenes should have been made to be more realistic. But the spurts of comedy were good. It all flowed together well in the manner in which it was presented. Here you have a guy down on his luck just wanting his child to survive so he takes an emergency room as hostage and threatens to kill everyone in the room, but he has only one bullet, and it is not even in the gun. Most of the people in the emergency room once they understood John Q (Denzel Washington) began to like him. They found him to be a good, caring, hard working guy who was cornered by circumstances beyond his control. All John Q wanted was to save his son by getting him a heart. Denzel Washington did an excellent job of making everyone feel his pain in the show as well as in the audience. I'm not sure if it was really meant to show the medical care problems in the United States but it does. Which is a good thing.

Review: This movie is good and it is bad too - the good thing about it is it made it crystal clear to me why should I have had to tick the donor's gap in my Driver's Licence form,then another good thing is how beautifully insurance companies are described in here by giving you nightmares when you most need their help which is such a crime. Because when they get you to sign forms
they treat you like a king and when it comes to make the claims
they treat you like a criminal regardless the proofs you offer.And the bad one was : to keep hostages inside a hospital wasn't such a good thing to show - I'm sure that in a democratic U.S.A there are heaps more options before deciding on that one. Anyways, John Q is a factory worker. He has a cloud above his life that rains unhappiness after unhappiness.He's facing financial problems as the work hours have been reduced for him.
His car get's repossessed. Can't get any worst than this he thought just until he realised that it can get worster than all of his misfortunes put together.His pride, his son falls down on earth one day as he's playing baseball and what John Q and his wife hear from doctors is impossible. Michael is very sick and he would need an emergency heart transplant but that would cost them a lot of money should they decide to save their sons precious life. The problem was where to get the money...and since there was no way to get the money...the other problem was what to do? Very sad movie...it makes you think.

Review: Denzel Washington is truly an amazing actor. In this film he protrays the part of a father with a dying child. In this thrilling drama he shows so much emotion, it makes you want to cry. I've seen it more than three times and I still cry when I watch it. It's that good!

Review: Let me get this straight . . . Denzel Washington takes hostages and demands a heart transplant for his kid because he has a lousy HMO? "John Q" is unrealistic, full of cliche characters, and ultimately predictable. James Woods and Anne Heche are especially painful to watch in their one-note performances as the heartless heart surgeon and the ice-cold hospital administrator. "John Q" tries to be the "Dog Day Afternoon" of the health care industry, but misses the target badly.

Summary: Selective in its causes
Review: I confess, planning to buy the film but just saw it on cable about an hour into it. This movie is SO accurate when it comes to health care coverage. Have I ever needed a transplant? No. But when one of the hostages mentioned that you're treated then released when they find out you have no health insurance, I couldn't help but shout "You know it!" I've been taken to the hospital for Chronic Bronchitis. The first thing they ask in the ER isn't what's wrong, it's "Do you have insurance?" When told no, but still able to pay, I'm still kicked out the door within hours, just barely stabilized without a care if I can last until morning to fill their prescriptions they refuse to. While I don't condone hostage taking to make a point, I more than understand John Q's frustrations. This film focuses on inadaquate care without insurance. Shame the waiting room discussion didn't include another ugly factor in that of the legal practice of hospital double billing and overcharging whether you have insurance or not. Next we'll see John Q's wife take the hospital's Billing staff hostage in attempt to force them to take off for medications never given, tests never given, and over charging for pills and supplies that took pennies to manufacture.
The film is an important commentary of how fed up John Q Public is with the American Health Care System whose Bottom Line IS now nothing more THAN the Bottom Line. For that reason alone I want to purchase the movie so I'll never forget that sick or well, John Q Public always has to fight for what we deserve.

Summary: Justice of the heart
Review: Words cannot express my true feelings for this movie; however I believe that the song featured in the movie "JUSTICE OF THE HEART" does sum it all up. Also I have tried with NO success to find this song to purchase it. I cannot find the soundtrack, or just the song. I checked the credits, and found that it was sang by Stevie Wonder, Brenda Russell. Summary: Great acting but poor scripting
Review: I watched this movie just recently because a friend said it was great. I didn't read any reviews, only a basic sysnopsis from the trailer I've seen. And after seeing the cast (Denzel and Duvall whom I revere), I had high expectations. Most of the actors gave superb performances, especially Denzel and Woods, but the predictability and stereotyping of leading characters was a major disappointment. For those of you who hasn't seen the movie yet should expect great acting and that alone.
