Summary: Emotional but uplifting.
Review: Normal people tend to speak in cliches and since this movie is autobiographical the cliches add to the realism in my opinion.

This movie is extremely well written and acted. I served in the Navy and this movie succeeded in pulling me in and kept me riveted to my chair.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who isn't afraid of good role models and a slice of reality.

Summary: Life isn't always easy or fair.
Review: This was an extremely moving story about a young man abused by women as a boy and had repressed memories which had to be worked out some way. After he is grown and in the Navy, he's sent to anger management. Goaded by some of his fellow recruits as being 'gay', he is finally seen by a Naval psychiatrist. At first, he refused to talk about his childhood, finding it too painful.

As he accepts and gets to know (even ate Thanksgiving dinner at the doctor's home) someone he feels he can trust, all the sordidness of his past is re-lived in flashbacks. After finding his soul mate, he seeks freedom from the demons of his past. They go on a journey to confront the old women who had abused him in different ways.

Like James Brown, the father of soul music, he was an abandoned child. Later, he confronts his mother who had given him away, to show her how he'd overcome the hardships imposed by her actions. She wasn't impressed that he had grown into an upright, decent person. He found her in questionable circumstances in what looked to be a crack house.

This movie is a tearjerker, according to Maxine who cried through most of it. She recommends it to all parents as a lesson about what happens when a child has no training or parental love and guidance.

Summary: Gone Fishing...Caught the Best
Review: The movie "Antwone Fisher" is a really an ice breaker for those young people who are bound down by the "meaniacs" of the sort that thought Antwone would not rise above them.

In the movie everyone was presented nicely. The actor protraying Antwone seemed to be molded for that character. He seems to have felt it in his heart. Not to forget Denzel...as always he did an excellent job in the acting and producing.

I am looking forward to reading poetry that Antwone has written. To all of you: Keep up the good work and be encouraged by the strength that God gives.

Summary: An Admirable Film
Review: I really did not want to see this movie in the theaters because I thought it was a depressing movie. However, when I watched this movie at home I thought it was excellent and I really appreciated that this movie was so moving. I loved the story, the actors(Denzel Washington and Derek Luke), and the feeling I got after seeing this movie. It is a heavy movie because the Luke's does go through sexual and mental abuse as a child, but how he finally dealt with these obstacles was what I admired.

Summary: The Greatest and the Best
Review: It took me a while to see this because I wasn't sure if it was going to be poignant or not, but finally I broke down and got a copy of the DVD last week and I tell you, when I saw that family scene when Antwone finally gets to meet his father's family,(in real life, they lived not far from where he grew up).it made me cry. Cause he kept dreaming about that. It was so unreal. But I loved it. Everyone who had a difficult childhood or life should get this video. because you CAN triumph. This young man did.

Summary: Exceptional Movie
Review: Superb acting, engaging plot, good cinematography. A heartfelt and emotional ending. If it were not for Denzel Washington saturating this movie with his racist opinions, I would have given this film 5 stars. (For instance, stating that a black woman's abusive and cruel behaviors toward her foster children can be blamed on white people and slavery is angering and inaccurate) A good movie to watch, just don't fall for Mr. Washinton's propaganda.

Summary: Powerfully explicit and moving
Review: Antwone Fisher presents a dramatically compelling lesson in how profoundly damaging childhood abuse can be, but also, that with the kind of friendship and support that validates one's worth as a human being, one can develop the inner strength necessary to overcome the worst kinds of physical, sexual and emotional mistreatment. It also shows that men can be just as severely harmed by such abuse as women, and moreover, that the worst abusers of male children can just as well be women as men. I strongly recommend this powerfully acted and directed film.

Summary: This movie helped to see healing in my own life.
Review: All I can say is: Thank you, Antwone, for sharing your life with us, and thank you, Denzel, for bringing this story to the theater. You have made a huge difference in my own life, and I wish I could thank you personally.

As a child, I suffered much of the same abuse (though not so violent) and loneliness that Antwone experienced. It has been a long and difficult journey for me to move towards health. I did not make it as quickly as Antwone did.

What this movie did for me was to help me face again some of my old pain, but also, like Antwone in the movie, to see that I have finally found my own "Welcome Home" family in my two children, my two "in-law" children, their families, and my new grandson.

Summary: True life story worth seeing.
Review: I was very hesitant to see this movie, and waited until it came out on DVD before viewing. I regret not seeing it sooner. This is one of the best true-life drama's I have ever seen. It follows the life of a young sailor who is helped to come to grips with his troubled past by a caring psychiatrist. All the actors did a fantastic job. Denzel did a wonderful job directing this movie. My only regret is that we were not able to see more interaction between Antwone and his newfound family, as well as, Denzel and his wife (played by Salli Richardson) as they worked out their problem. All things considered this movie deserves five stars
