Rating: Summary: One of the best movies I have ever seen Review: If like me, you are easily moved to tears, I would suggest you have a box of tissues handy before watching this movie. Even if you have a heart of stone you will be moved by the story of Antwone Fisher. A story of personal triumph in the midst of adversity. Antwone's father was killed months before he was born in a women's correctional facility. His mother would abandon him and he would be raised in a foster home where the physical and mental abuse would create ghosts that he will carry with him for a long time. Derek Luke plays the role of Antwone Fisher so brilliantly, I am pleased to say that he easily outshines, seasoned actor, Denzel Washington. He steals all the scenes from Denzel who also does a fantastic job directing.
Look out for the interview with the real Antwone Fisher on the DVD.
A truly inspiring movie for anyone who has ever been beaten down.
'I am still standing, I am still strong, and I always will be' - the words of Antwone Fisher
Rating: Summary: Every Radical Feminist Should See This Movie Review: This was a truly moving movie. Many others have written about that and about the triumph of the human spirit this true story shows us. So, I will focus on the fact that the true story of Antwone Fisher also shows us all (or those of us brave enough to view it) that abuse is not a gender issue.
Mr. Fisher suffered from domestic violence and sexual abuse at the hands of women who were entrusted to care for him. Moreover, his father truly was a "deadbeat dad" in the sense that he was killed by his girlfried. And, Mr. Fisher's mother abandoned him and never took responsibility for his care.
In this age of hysteria over domestic violence against women, we should all remember the life of Antwone Fisher. I would venture a guess that this movie did not receive recognition during the Acadamy Awards because it protrays the reality that abuse is not a gender issue, but a human issue, and this is far too controversial for a society (and a Hollywood) full of political slogans and political pandering to radical feminists that can only paint woman as victims instead of the abusers they are capable of being. Ironically, the power of this movie lies precisely in the fact that Mr. Fisher choose not to be a victim.
Rating: Summary: A Surprisingly Good Movie Review: Antwone Fisher is a surprisingly good movie in light of its unlikely subject matter. Most movies centering around psychologically troubled persons that are not crime dramas are just simply not very good. Antwone Fisher rises above the rest and is a very good movie. The reason for this is that the movie is an autobigraphy of a real life person. Antwone Fisher served in the U.S. Navy and had a productive relationship with a Navy shrink played by Denzel Washington. This movie boasts an excellent script and cast to match.
