Summary: smutt
Review: I hated it. The acting costumes and all of that was good. But I knew nothing of the story so was shocked by the morals of this story. The reason I watched it was I saw Pride and Predgudace, done by the same people and exspected the same type of story.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: brilliant!
Review: I have to disagree with the black sheep below who only gave this wonderful film one star. Metin Huseyin must be a genius, and I wish he had directed some of the other film adaptations of classic novels that I have seen. I have never seen a film that has more faithfully interpreted a novel than this. The acting was incredibly believable, and Max Beesley was perfect as Tom Jones.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I saw this movie when it aired on A & E a few months ago and I have read the book ever since. After seeing this, I was turned onto literature and Tom Jones is definitly one of my favorite books! Max makes a great Tom Jones and I even like the female lead character. Very Well cast and my favorite out of the A & E literature movies!

Summary: Excellent!! Flawless adaptation of the book!
Review: I saw Tom Jones when it aired on A&E, and loved it so much that I had to read the book. I must commend BBC for the superb work they did interpreting the book into the movie. The movie follows the book exactly, which pleases me to no end, considering the way that some movies have massacred the story they came from. This is a very funny and enjoyable movie.

Summary: A strange experience
Review: I study history and I am in my last (4th) year. Last year I had to choose a subject for my thesis. I wanted to study the historical aspects of films situated in the 18th-century. Some years before me a girl did the same thing, so my choice was really limited. In 1997 I saw the miniserie of Tom Jones on BBC (it was later also on the Belgian television) and I didn't really liked it. But since I hadn't much choice I took it as a subject anyway. I read the book and I loved it. In the mean time I was looking for the script of the mini-serie, but I couldn't find it. So in August me and my sister, who hadn't liked the series either, put the whole film on paper and guess what... We absolutely adored it!! I can't explain why, but suddenly it was really funny (I especially liked Honour). I think that the actors give the right representation of the characters in the novel, with one exception: Sophia is in the serie more assertive than in the novel, but that, I guess, has to do with the influence of the 20th century on the director and the scriptwriter.

I'm looking for a lot more information on the mini-serie of 1997 so if you have any, please write me (Veroniq@mail.be) I would really appreciate it! So if Metin Hüseyin should read this: PLEASE CONTACT ME! That would really impress my professor!

Summary: This movie actually does the book justice!
Review: I tend to hate all movies that have been books and Tom Jones just happened to be a favorite book of mine. Yet, when I saw this version, I loved it completely. The production crew didn't cut down the story to a bitter pulp and they made the story come alive. I'm an actress as well and can tell when an actor is merely doing the minimum. You'll love Henry Fieldings' narative over the story and all the hilarious mishaps that follow. Enjoy!

Summary: Horrible, horrible, horrible!
Review: If I could give this 0 stars, I would. The Albert Finney version is so far superior to this trash that I hardly know where to begin the comparisons, but I'll try. Max Beesley is not remotely believable as a seducer of sophisticated women, Samantha Morton's Sophie is too silly for words and nowhere near attractive enough to drive a man to distraction. Brian Blessed was scarily manic rather than funny as Squire Western. All in all, this production was an incoherent mess.

I don't always go along with professional reviewers, but I have to in this case (they hated it too!). Rent the Albert Finney version and enjoy (especially the scene at the inn with Mrs. Waters!). There is a reason why A&E never showed this again; it is a waste of time.
