Summary: Just when you thought classy, classic terror was dead...
Review: Don't get me wrong, I like good special effects as well as the next person, but all too often they have been use to pump life into a sagging story. I was beginning to think that the days of the true terror/horror movies were over. I am talking about the ones when a good story, well acted by truly professional actors,under the direction of an exceptional director produced the suspense and fear that made you jump in your seat. But, at last, here it is again, and it was worth the wait.Zemekis has definitely mastered the genre. He has his fun with us, the audience. We more or less accept that the house where Clarie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Norman (Harrison Ford) Spencer reside is haunted at the beginning, but as Claire's hypothesis about the identity of the ghost unravels, you begin to believe that perhaps she is beginning to lose her mind, as her husband delicately (at that point of the movie) suggests. Even Claire begins to believe it. After all, she is in the middle of remodeling the beautiful home of her husband's childhood after her only child has left for college. Then, too, there was that hideous single-car accident in which she was involved no more than a year earlier. So she assumes that perhaps she is the victim of an overactive imagination and of having to much time on her hands. So she gamely and bravely sets out to continue being the perfect wife of her perfect celebrated high-society husband who is directing some very important and profitable medical research programs. But soon the evidence of stalking supernatural horror becomes so overwhelming that even logical, pragmatic Norman can't dismiss it as nonsense. He believes his wife, to her relief, and goes so far as to call a parapsychologist associate at Duke University to ask his advice. He wishes to rid the Normans' life of this other-worldly presence as much as Claire does. And it is more or less at this point that the fun really begins. After finally acquiring her husband's trust about a highly controversial matter, about which nearly no one else believes her, Claire almost immediately loses her trust in Norman when she learns that her picture perfect life is a facade, that the facade is cracking, and that the crack is spreading to the size of the San Andreas Fault. The film then becomes a true craft of suspense, thrills and terror as Claire tries to avoid threats from this world and the next. It is a great temptation to rapsodize about the excellent job Pfeiffer does from that point on as the terrorized and set-upon Clair, the fine performance Ford delivers as her superficially supportive and apologetic mate, and the great surprise ending of this movie. However, I couldn't do the job right without revealing the ending of the story, which is definitely one of its treats. I will just say that it was a perfect conclusion of the crescendo of suspense and horror that built up to it, and leave it at that. I wouldn't spoil the fun of another viewer for anything. There is a fine supporting cast in this movie, and Zemeckis knows just how much to show them and then remove them so that they truly support rather than detract from the main plot. And the beautiful New England lakeside scenery where much of the action takes place is another fine element of the film. You will jump, gasp and cover your eyes all the way through this film and enjoy every minute of it. Thanks to Pfeiffer, Ford and Zemeckis for a film that has been justifiably compared to those of Hitchcock. I have to believe that even Hitch himself would have enjoyed this one.

Summary: All I can say is DUDE!
Review: This is increadible. I went with two of my friends to see this movie late one night. I thought it was going to be another eye candy flick that i hated, but was i ever wrong. This movie not only had eye candy, but it also had a excelent, well thought out plot to it, and more than one kind of enemy. It was the first Ghost/Slasher movie I had ever seen. Man, if you get the chance, go see this before it goes out of theatres.

Summary: Spooky! Very impressive- got me good!
Review: My husband and I are both fans of Harrison and Pfeiffer, and very much fans of thrillers, so we HAD to see this. And we were not disappointed! It was a well told story, well presented. In a lot of movies out these days, the plot is apparent in the first 5 seconds and its no fun to watch the rest of the movie. Not in this one...it took us a while. I was very impressed! In one of the final bathroom scenes, I ended up with fingernail marks in my leg, from my own hand - thats how good it got me!

Review: "What Lies Beneath" was scary, suspenseful, and thrilling. Loaded with edge-of-your-seat scenes, and plenty of parts that make you jump. Although, the last half of the movie was predictable, and a little bloody, it's still good if your in for a scare!

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: I did not want to see this movie. I was like "Blah! Not another Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfiefer blockbuster film". Even though they've never been in a movie before. Well, let me just say, it was worth the 6.25 I paid. This movie starts off and it looks more like a drama about a couple who are trying to get the thrill of their marriage back together. Then it takes a dramatic and thrilling turn. Michelle Pfiefer is great, I never really have liked her in any films, but this one she is just amazing. I can't say much about Harrison Ford, he plays the same character basically in all movies. But I was bit suprised with this one, I'm not going to spoil it for you. If you like the "The Sixth Sense", this is done in the same style. You don't need blood and guts to be scary. This shows that. The music makes it all thrilling and even more exciting. Thus movie is just plain fun.

Review: In this day it is rare to see a movie this good and frightning without a huge special effects budget. Not only are the scares shocking and unexpected, but so are the performances, including Michelle Pfieffer's Oscar worthy performance.

Review: I am a lover of scary movies, but this one takes the cake! I wasn't expecting it to be so "edge of your seat." I have never heard so many people scream in a movie theater. Kudos to Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford who both did an outstanding job of bringing this movie to life. If you haven't already been to see this movie, go see it today!

Summary: Sleek and stylish.
Review: For some reason, "What Lies Beneath" works despite some small yet serious flaws in its script. Acting however, accompanied by the good aspects of the story, make the movie believable and enjoyable. The film opens with Norman and Claire Spencer (played to perfection by Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer) sending Claire's daughter away to college. Claire fears being alone in the house, but soon grows to the idea because she feels she will have her life back again. One day, while sitting on her terrace, she hears a woman crying next door, and upon investigation of the events of her new neighbors, she begins to wonder if the husband has killed his wife. Meanwhile, in her own house, strange occurrences, such as breaking pictures, opening doors and whispering voices lead her to believe that a ghost, possibly her "dead" neighbor, is trying to contact her. Claire soon discovers that all she thinks has happened is not at all true, with her neighbor very much alive and happy again. But the apparitions still permeate throughout the house, filling bathtubs and turning off lights. As Claire begins to dig into "who" is trying to contact her, she discovers that her husband had an affair with a young woman. Claire confronts Norman about the woman, and he tells her that the girl committed suicide when he tried breaking off the relationship. But that is not the end of Claire's journey, for she will soon discover that even the perfect husband has flaws. The storyline to the film can be a bit testing at times, especially in the beginning, where you will find yourself wondering why Claire keeps snooping on the neighbors. But when you discover her motive for snooping, it all falls into place, and the film moves at a smooth pace from then on. Ford and Pfieffer give superb performances, adding depth and emotion to the film. This could very well be considered Phieffer's best performance yet. Suspense is all the rage in the movie, slowly building up in the beginning and kicking into high gear in the most critical moments of the film's ending. Though the film received mixed reviews from critics, it is well worth watching for those of you in the mood for thrills and a few chills in between.

Summary: Amazingly Frightening!
Review: I saw this movie with very high hopes, and got even more than I originally thought possible. It is the story of Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) whose daughter is leaving for college. She has the "perfect" life. Great daughter, fabolous husband, beautiful home. Everything she could want. She's comfortable... Until she starts seeing things. She begins to see a girl in her bathroom. And it frightens her to the point of almost absolute hysteria. She accuses the neighbor of mudering his wife, and completely becomes irrational. Then she starts researching the ghost girl and finds that her husband may have something to do with her death. Scary!

Review: I liked What Lies Beneath because of the intense character development and spooky feel of the movie. It was not as scary as I was anticipating but it was pleasantly spooky. I would recommend it to viewer's interested in ghost stories or murder mysteries.
