Summary: Stays with me still
Review: I had the incredible luck to be able to see this a day before it came out because I work at a movie theatre. I had stayed away from all things concerning it, so as not to spoil the surprise. I went into it with incredible expectations, seeing as that I loved The Sixth Sense and wanted to see if Willis and Night could pull it off again. Willis is David Dunne, a security guard with a broken home life. He sleeps in a different room than his wife (Robin Wright-Penn) and has a so-so relationship with his son (Spencer Treat Clark). On his way home from New York, there's a train crash and he's the only survivor. Why? Only Samuel L. Jackson knows, and the rest of the movie is his achieving what he can become. There are a lot of similarities between this and Sixth Sense. Willis is in the Haley Joel Osment role, being the one who finds his purpose in life, and Jackson is in Willis' role as the mentor. I love what Night's films are saying: that you must accept who you are, and in doing so, your life will improve. In The Sixth Sense Osment had to accept who he was and what he could do, use this for the better good, and in doing so he was able to finally talk to his mother. Willis does the same in this, only his secret is much more vast and romantic. I absolutly loved this movie. 2000 has been painfully absent of movies that make my heart leap, to make me want to literally stand up and cheer in excitement for a character. So far, only this and Wonder Boys achieved that in 2000 for me. Night did an incredible job directing and writing. I love his slower pace, it gets me to settle in and concentrate and breathe in everything that's happening on screen. His scripts, even though they have the same basic concept, are original. Willis and Jackson are great. The ending, for fans of this genre like me, is pitch perfect (still would've loved it if it went on for a bit after the ending). And thank god almighty for James Newton Howard's score. Everything in the movie was great, but it was his score which elevated this movie into something more, something that stays with me even after all this time. This truely is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Summary: As enticing as a bus-ride!
Review: Despite my usual verbosity, this time I'll be short: what a boring and disappointing movie! The plot is turtle-paced and I've caught myself on acute desire to give the characters a good push in the back so that they act and speak faster. B Willis is somnambular and S Jackson should get a better haircut and change his shining violet raincoat for something less awkward looking. The viewer feels fooled in the end by rather an ordinary movie-trick.It's worth to watch it only to compare it with the over-hyped "6th Sense". Maybe I'm too harsh, but I consider it lost money.

Summary: UN - Important!!
Review: This is truly my greatest disappointment this year. Having seen the 6th Sense I was mistaken to believe that this film would have anything to do with the first. I was wrong!! This film lacks rhythm and meaning, although the story isn't awful the director manages to completely destroy any potential it has. It is so slow and annoying that it is almost painful. Bruce Willis is good but the dialog is hilarious, Samuel Jackson is trying to give emotional weight to a rather bizarre character and the result is just not quite what he indented. I only hope future films from Salaman will follow the guidelines from his previous attempt...

Summary: Intelligent,well acted,well directed need I say more?
Review: This is not supposed to be 6th Sense Part 2. Yes, it has Bruce Willis, the same pace, washed out colors and a twist ending but the overall goal of the film and its effects are different. It's hard to talk about this film without giving anything away... I'll do my best. Unbreakable is haunting and poetic. A man's self-discovery with a supernatural twist. The film takes the basic rules of comic books (loved the raincoat) and applies them on a "reality" based canvas. This makes for a very original storyline. The film had me hooked from the get-go. It actually put me in the shoes of the Willis character: I was curious when he was, I was amazed when he was and I was angry when he was. I think the way you'll perceive this film has a lot to do with who you are on a personal level and how you feel the day you will see it. I for one am at a crossroads, asking myself many questions and this film was a perfect piece to fit my mood. Even though it's bathed in an aura of sadness, I still couldn't help but view the film as positive. Seeing Willis's character put the pieces together, not only of the mystery but also of his life...touched me. The scene where he actually does something with his gift almost made me cry (I know, I'm a big beeyatch). I was rooting for him and in his shoes I would have done the same thing. The film makes a strong statement in respect to the balance between "good" and "evil" and the place we stand in all of it as human beings. Let's just say that evil has an easier time on earth than good does. Sad but true. The film does have its faults: The scene with the kid and the gun although symbolic, felt a tad overblown. I thought it was a bit too extreme even though its purpose is clear: express the kid's state of mind, his desperation. I also hated the captions at the end explaining what happened to the characters. Mystery would have been more effective. I might be reading too much into this film and that's my point. What you'll get out of it depends on you. On an entertainment level alone the film is slow (never bothered me) and probably doesn't have enough "physical" action to please the masses (no ghosts a la 6th Sense here). But for me it worked and had me yapping for hours afterwards. Are you Unbreakable? I know I'm not...

Summary: Is this film misunderstood?
Review: One night in the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal City, I was fortunate enough to encounter director M. Night Shyamalan and I went up to him to tell him how much I enjoyed "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable." He was about the thank me when suddenly I asked him why the "Unbreakable" didn't break box office records (yeah, I know, what nerve!) and he told me: "I think it was misunderstood." I believe this is what happened to this really good film which I found refreshing. It overstepped the boundries of your typical Hollywood hype movie (it came out at the same time as the ultra-crap "Charlie's Angels" and "Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows"). So my question is: Does the movie-going audience prefer your standard "factory-made" crap or something completely different, unusual, and downright smart? Mister Shayamalan, your great film wasn't misunderstood, it's the audience that rather sit through cheap thrills like "Charlie's Angels." If you want to enjoy something different, well-filmed, smartly written, and wonderfully acted by Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis, then check this film out. Otherwise, hey, they're playing pre-prepared Hollywood hype in your local theater.

Summary: Forget "The sixth sense"(Non pensate a "Il sesto senso").
Review: Who loves cinema, loves the comparisons. But sometimes the memory of another movie can be really dangerous. I think that many people have seen "Unbreakable" with "The sixth sense" in their mind and heart. This movie does everything possible to reproduce that wonderful success :the same director, the same lead actor, again an important child, a story that only at the last scene we can understand in its real meaning. And again a dark and invincible sadness. But just the attempt of reproducing the distinctive characters of "The sixth sense" shows the limits of construction of "Unbreakable" : in the first movie there were freshness of inspiration and the impulse of a prodigious idea, here there is little or nothing; Willis cannot involve us, in the role of the unaware angel; the child who believes him, let alone; above all in this movie doesn't work the double level of reading that made "The sixth sense" a very effective thriller and also a deep meditation about the world of the secret fears of the children. This time the "second reading", about the relationship between Good and Bad in the world, inspired from that modern mythology (and this the best idea in the movie) of the Super-Heroes cartoons, has not moment, and the final revelation is only a solution for the plot, it doesn't any serious meditation. Except for... all the story is a representation of the principle that wants every identity is recognisable only by means of its opposite. But I doubt Shyamalian would to make philosophy. Chi ama il cinema, vive di confronti. A volte il richiamo di un altro film, però, può essere veramente dannoso. Credo che molti abbiano visto "Unbreakable" con "The sixth sense" nella mente e nel cuore. Del resto il film fa di tutto per riprodurre quella meravigliosa riuscita : stesso regista, stesso attore protagonista, anche qui un bambino importante, una storia che solo all'ultimo possiamo inquadrare nel suo reale significato. Anche qui una tristezza cupa e invincibile. Ma proprio il tentativo di riprodurre gli aspetti caratteristici del "Il sesto senso" mette in evidenza i limiti di costruzione di "Unbreakable": lì c'era freschezza di ispirazione e la spinta di un'idea di base formidabile, qui c'è molto poco: Willis non coinvolge, nella parte dell'angelo inconsapevole; il bambino che crede in lui ancora meno; e soprattutto fallisce in questo film quel doppio piano di lettura che rendeva "Il sesto senso" un thriller efficacissimo e al tempo stesso una riflessione di rara profondità sull'universo delle paure incomprese dei bambini; stavolta la "seconda lettura", quella del rapporto tra il bene ed il male nel mondo, ispirato a quella mitologia moderna (questa è forse l'idea più simpatica del film) costituita dai fumetti dei supereroi, non ha nessuno spessore, e la "rivelazione" finale ha un valore di mera chiusura narrativa, non apre a nessuna seria riflessione. A meno che...tutta la storia non sia una rappresentazione del principio per cui ogni l'identità di ogni elemento è riconoscibile solo attraverso il suo opposto. Ma non credo che Shyamalan volesse fare filosofia.

Summary: Unwatchable
Review: This movie is more painful than a root canal. I am an avid movie viewer, of all types but this movie finally cought my attention during the credits. By the time you figure out what the movie is about (if you are still awake) it is over. Poor filming, very few developed characters. The previews and trailers are very misleading. As a fan of both actors and The Sixth Sense I was very disappointed. This movie had much going for it but never made it.

Summary: Shyamalan has done it again
Review: In the Unbreakable trailer when I first heard Bruce Willis say "Do you ever remember me getting sick before ",I thought to myself Shyamalan has done it again.The trailer struck me like a bolt of lightning it had everything to entertain the audience and make them want to know more.I loved Unbreakable, I saw this movie 5 times, and each time I enjoyed it more and more. I went into the movie theater wanting to see a good movie and walked out having see a great one.An original movie with great actors,great music,and a great director.I believe that the critics and the public would feel the same way if they would have went into theaters wanting to watch a very interesting movie and not another Sixse sense.I currently have the sountrack and I'm anticipating the arival of the DVD, in my view,Shyamalan has done it again.

Summary: A follow up of the Sixth Sense
Review: I think that this was a clever story with a not quite developed plot. The story was about a man who dicovers he has supernatural powers but in a more realistic sense. The film did not give quite enough definition to truly understand the real happenings in the story. Since this movie was so close in being released after "The Sixth Sense" (by the same director) I believe that it was just meant to make money and gain popularity, as "The Sixth Sense" did. I also think that there wasn't much care put into the film so it could be realesed as soon as possible to give the public a film by the same director while "The Sixth Sense" was still fresh in their minds. I give this movie four stars because its story WAS interesting and could be looked upon as more than just these things. I would probably like to see this movie again to gain a better understanding of the true message.

Summary: Unbreakable-Part of a TRILIOGY
Review: This movie is part of a triliogy?! The twist in the end doesn't leave room for one, and also, M. Night Shaymalan (the director) said he wouldn't do sequels. No sequel or sequels, this is still a great movie. One quote in the movie describes it all (said by Elijah's mother in a flashback): "They say this one has a surprise ending."
