Summary: Builds up its tension EXACTLY like Hitchcock
Review: "Dead Again" is not a modern masterpiece like some reviewers have said below me. But it's an old-fashioned who-dunnit mystery with a supernatural twist in which the only redeeming qualities of it are the plot shocks, and the overwhelmingly strong tension it builds up as the movie rolls along. It's premise hints nothing that it reminds of the Hitchcock days, but the pattern of the suspense is almost parallel to a Hitchcock mystery (e.g. Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window). The performances aren't great by the leads Branagh and Thompson, but they are assumed to be great because they seem to have flawless American accents. Tell me, wouldn't you want two good American actors putting on 'great' performances rather than two British actors putting on rather dull performances but made bold by the fact that they perfected the American accent? But I hand it to Branagh for directing this gem of a thriller, and also to Andy Garcia (THE most underrated actor of his generation) for putting on a great-as-usual performance. See this film for its totally unexpected twists and its intentionally overdramatic slow-mo finale.

Summary: Bloody brilliant
Review: This is one of the best thriller type films around. Really original, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The only problem is, that once you've seen it, it sort of loses its impact. (Can't figure the 18 rating, though.)

Summary: Great movie with great acting!
Review: "Dead Again" is a great movie with great acting. I think this was one of Emma Thompson's and Kenneth Branagh's best performences. I am a big fan of Emma Thompson and her mocies and I think this was the best one. It is kind of like an Alfred Hitchcock movie, although I do have to agree with the person who said that this isn't AS good as Hitchcock's movies. This was still awesome!

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This is one of those movies that I went to blindly. I didn't know what it was about, or who was in it. It just happened to be playing at the time I wanted to see a movie. It's incredible. The bouncing between past and present, along with the musical score, is art. The story was solid and the charaters were entertaining. It's one of those movies that you have to watch at least once a year. My one minor complaint about the movie is overdoing it with the shears. Too much. If they took out 5 or 6 of the references, such as in the grand finale, it wouldn't have become cliche. See this film.

Summary: A risky, yet successful followup to Henry V
Review: Branagh himself admitted that the biggest challenge he faced when he read the script for Dead Again was the risk that this would become a bad movie. He needn't have feared. Dead Again is one of the most unusual thrillers I've had the pleasure of seeing this decade.

Branagh and Thompson sizzle on screen in both their historical and modern-day personas. Derek Jacobi is riveting, and Robin Williams' small role as a disgraced psychiatrist turned butcher is hilarious, yet intense.

I don't understand the "R" rating for this movie. There's little actual blood or gore, sex or swearing. I would gladly show this to teenagers anyday.

In all, another most enjoyable movie from one of the greatest living actor/directors.

Summary: Dull attempt to ape Hitchcock's style
Review: Highly stylized effort at film noir by Kenneth Branagh, matching the tortuously dull love-affair between his private-eye and Thompson's amnesiac with a cliche-ridden attempt at a genre he either misunderstands completely or must secretly loathe. Derek Jacobi is excellent as usual, and the plot does finally gather some pace, but by this time its a question of making the best of a bad job.

Summary: Hitchcock must have been proud of this one
Review: I first saw the movie in my Drama class at school. My teacher thinks it's the greatest movie ever made, and I have to say it was really good. What an amazing concept Kenneth Branagh had! The cinemotography, acting, and music were great. It was always deeply engrossing, edge-of-your-seat suspense that surely made Hitchcock proud, wherever he is. It's a bit confusing, but it all comes together and makes sense eventually. I'm suprised that it didn't recieve any Oscar nominations. Not even for cinemetography, film editing, or music score? And just what are the silly elements of the plot that the Amazon.com reviewer was talking about? I can't think of any at all. A truly great thriller and mystery.

Summary: A celebration of movie making
Review: Great script by Scott Frank, great direction and acting add up to one very entertaining film. Marred slightly by over-the-top ending, but when there's so much to love here, who cares? Don't miss it!

Summary: A film for those who love fast-paced pyschological thrillers
Review: When I first saw this movie, I was a little skeptical of it. But when I saw I was turned around. The acting was superb and although the ending was typical, the rest of the plot was 1 in a million. The film, though confusing at first, sorts itelf out by the end and boy are you surprised!!!
