Summary: Classical or Modern - a matter of preference
Review: The film was another "Flashdance"or "Staying Alive"kind of movie in the sense that practically the entire story was shot in a dance studio. But in the confinement of those 4 walls, you would see each student's struggle for perfection, quest for their dreams' achievement & search for happiness.

No, it was not all about the dance,a lthough you would see each person's character best revealed in his/her step. It was more eprsonal than that. For Maureen, it was knowing you excel in what you do but you don't find ahppiness in your heart. For Eva, it ws knowing you're just as good but you are too proud. For Jodie, it's knowing you' ll never be as good but just wouldn't give up.

The film also touched on the skepticism of classic ballet against modern/broadway type. I say, they're equally artistic & entertaining. It is just a matter of taste...just a matter of style.

Summary: Not just for Ballet fans
Review: As a guy who's never really understood the appeal of ballet - yes, they're obviously disciplined dancers and they're obviously in shape - but ballet - take it or leave it.

That's why CENTER STAGE is such a pleasant surprise - the dancing scenes are very well staged and except for onesequence in the beginning, they move briskly and never feel "classical" or "stagy."

You know what you're getting with a movie where people are auditioning for a performing arts school and the story is oftheir first year there - so while it's notfilled with great surprises and some of the characters first appear to be "stock" (the taskmaster teacher, the overbearing parent, etc ...) they actually become full-fledged characters. All the cliches are there but not unexpected - but it's handled expertly with a good script, fine performances and well-rounded characters you care about.

As long as you like dance, you'll appreciate the work dancers put in and you even learn a little about a ballet company. If you hate dance of any kind, this movie is obviously not for you but you'd be missing out on great acting performances by most of the cast - never mind they're all great dancers - a solid script and a story that moves crisply and precisely. The ballets and dance scenes are expertly shot and except for a few moments, you never feel that it's stagy and you're too far from the action.

Highly recommended.

Summary: LIFE DOESN'T HOLD TRYOUTS
Review: 'Centre Stage' is an accurate look at the competative world of ballet. All the dissappointment and excitment, as a group of young talented dances vie for a place in one of two ballet classes.

The cast is made up mostly by real life dancers. Amanda Schull is new to the acting world. But I think she does a fantastic job. She is my favorite in this movie. I hope she goes far in movies. There are many others.

The other cast members were made up of people with a theatrical backgroud. Which helps when you want to do a movie about ballet.

The music is enjoyable.

The dancing is spectacular, hot and beautiful. My favorite scenes are the disco, and the final dance performances. There are many others, but these are the two that really stick in my mind. I like the ballet. I find watching it very relaxing and beautiful. But I have never been, nor do I want to be a ballet student. I enjoyed the entire film. It was wonderful.

Summary: Beautiful dancing
Review: I am a ballet dancer, and I have to admit, it was a pretty good movie. I wouldn't go if you wanted great acting. I would say that the acting is only good. For amateur actors, I think they did pretty well, because I couldn't say Julia Roberts' films or the other well-known actors and actresses could have made it any better.

But the dancing is what you should go for. The dancing is beautiful. They are really professional dancers, unlike Save the Last Dance. I think Save the Last Dance could not compare to Center Stage. Julia Stiles was not a real ballet dancer, and she did mostly hip hop dancing, and I wouldn't go see her acting again. Center Stage also gives you an idea about how hard it is to be in a ballet company, or just make it into one. Ballet is not easy, and that's what they are showing. Go for the dancing, go for the acting, go for the facts, whatever you go for, just try it!

Summary: One of the best movies!!
Review: I THINK THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE FOR BALLET DANCERS, OR DANCERS PERIOD. ALONG WITH SAVE THE LAST DANCE IT IS GREAT.

Summary: Modernized flashdance
Review: Although this movie can be referred to as a "chick-flick", I sincerely enjoyed it. The "romance" is not the strongest part. The eclectic music and unique choreography make this movie comparable to Flashdance or Dirty Dancing. It's amazing what ballet dancers have to go through. I'll never get sick of this movie.

Summary: I LOVE this movie!
Review: First off, I'm a total sucker for dance movies. And this one is such a great one! In addition to having tons of fabulous dance footage (there's ten straight minutes of the most rockin' ballet I've ever seen towards the end of the movie), it's a really cute story with believable characters. I never get tired of watching this movie, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to watch dancing or just likes stories about young love. This is one of my favorite movies ever -- try it and I bet you'll love it too! (Just a side note -- I have the VHS version. I don't know if the DVD has any additional scenes/extra dance footage or director's commentary or anything, but if it does, I would definitely recommend that over the VHS because anything extra to this is icing on the cake!)

Summary: This is my 2nd fave movie
Review: I loved this movie. it was really enjoyable. I loved this movie because I am a dancer my self. I do jazz and ballet. i don't do pointe though yet. And i used to think that I would be a great pointe dancer, but now, I think NOT! It was realy gross when Jodie took off her shoes and there was blood everywhere. That was nasty to me. Any wway. I really liked this movie. And i would definitly watch it again.

Summary: Amazing Moves
Review: This is one of the rare videos you see that you do not expect to enjoy and thuroughly do. I thought the overwhelmingly large amounts of ballet were going to drive me insane despite a 6 year history in the dance. But I was completely mistaken. There is dancing in this movie that makes you WANT to do ballet, want to learn and the movie itself leaves you happy. The star of the movie was a student at a local college in my home state, which makes it a much more home type film... you feel its possible

Summary: Ballet Fluff
Review: In simple terms, this movie is ballet fluff. It features characters that can be found in any teen movie, like the girl who has some ability but believes that she can achieve what she wants with hard work, the sassy girl, and the womanizing jerk. Still, it does have 2 redeeming qualities. 1) Some of the dance scenes are imaginative and well danced and choreographed. 2) It has Ethan Steifel, arguably the best dancer out there today and will certainly end up rivaling Baryshnikov in ability. His dancing is nothing short of amazing and hopefully, he'll make people realize that having sons who dream of dancing ballet isn't such a nightmare. Watch the mvie for these 2 reasons, but if you're a purist I'd avoid it because it could make you ill.
