Review: Not since Windwalker have I enjoyed a Native American movie so much. I sincerely hope that the success of this movie inspires more production of movies about Native Americans. Most people do not understand the humor NA's are capable of. Our culture has recognized many other minority groups far more than the Natives of our great country. There is much to learn and enjoy from knowledge. And with knowledge, comes understanding. GO RENT THE MOVIE OR BETTER YET, JUST BUY IT....... YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Review: This movie is the best protriat of Native Americans I have ever seen. And the acting was excellent. I was an extra in the movie and it was exciting watching the actors and actress.

Summary: Worth Watching Twice in One Day
Review: After seeing "Smoke Signals" for the first time, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I watched it again that day and maybe even once more that weekend. I'm not a Native American, but for most of my life I lived near the Fort Hall Indian reservation in Idaho. The movie poignantly reminded me of the struggles those on a reservation deal with, especially alcoholism and family break-downs. One critic (with whom I strongly disagree) said "Smoke Signals" was too simplistic and "cute." How wrong -- I think most of life's profound moments happen simply. This is an excellent, moving film.

Review: I am Irish/Cherokee with all the good and bad of that. I thought I had lost my 20 yr old son. Then he saw Smoke Signals and called to tell me about it. It was amazing how much of the movie was me as the parent, and how much was me as the child. It was amazing how this moving brought him to an understanding of me. ... And when do we forgive our fathers?...

Summary: So funny with the serious problems!
Review: I have seen this film for 4 times! And every time,I find something very important to live. The people in this reservation have so many problems, but they have such a great smiles.I laughed,laughed, and laughed. And lastly, I felt some sad feelings about their situations.They told me about them just by the admosphere of the film. also,this film made me interested in native cultures so much! And I am now studying cultural anthropology.

Summary: a comic-tragic, realistic portrayal of the Indian community
Review: "Smoke Signals" sensitively portrays real Indians, not those John Ford stereotypes of John Wayne westerns. I thought the story was believable, the dialogue funny, biting, and familiar to me as an Indian. So many of the lines echoed the country store chatter in my own home area. These characters like most of us Indians never take themselves too seriously, yet they recognize the distance between their life circumstances and that of others in the society. They don't bash whites but laugh at the assumptions which whites have about Indians. I recommend the movie highly and show it to multicultural literature classes every chance I get. I talk about the image of the American Indian in popular culture, and this film represents a significant departure from the 1950s, 1960s popular image. Thank you Sherman Alexie and others.

Summary: One of the best movies available
Review: I could not stop weeping after seeing it, even though I am rarely one to show my emotions. "Smoke Signals" is a beautiful movie about the relationships between men, particularly between fathers and sons. While it takes place in a very specific racial and socio-economic environment (which it portrays very well), it trancends these barriers and creates a story that anyone who has refused to forgive his parents for their mistakes can identify with. My greatest thanks go out to the makers of this movie.
