Review: I'AM A NICOLAS CAGE FAN, I ENJOY WATCHING ALL HIS MOVIES. LEAVING LAS VEGAS NEARLY TORE MY HEART APART. I COULN'T WATCH IT AGAIN FOR A LONG TIME. I WAS SO MOVED BY HIS PREFORMENCE. IT WAS THE SADDEST MOVIE I HAVE SEEN.BUT I STILL LOVE IT . NICOLAS CAGE OUT DID HIS SELF IN THIS MOVIE. HE IS SUCH A GREAT ACTOR. I'AM MAKING A COLLECTION JUST OF ALL HIS MOVIES. Summary: Depressingly brilliant
Review: Let me start off by saying that this is one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen. Don't buy this thinking it will reward you with an uplifting experience by the end of the film. That being said, Leaving Las Vegas truly is a fantastic movie. It is a sad tale of a man with nothing to lose going on a suicidal drinking binge in Las Vegas. I saw this film almost immediately after Con Air, in which Nicholas Cage's acting is underwhelming to say the least. Before seeing Leaving Las Vegas, I already had a closed mind about Nicholas Cage's talent; to be truthful I thought he was only famous because his uncle directed the Godfather. Even though he will of course never read this review, I feel I must apologize for ever thinking such a thing. Nicholas Cage was absolutely incredible in this film. Throughout the entire movie his character was drunk and Cage portrayed this character with as much talent as the world's best actors. Leaving Las Vegas is by far his best movie.

Summary: Leaving Las Vegas paints an amazing picture
Review: I have never seen a movie that shows somebody's problem and addiction in such a round and honest way. With both Cage and Shue, these were the performances of a lifetime. Leaving Las Vegas was a very depressing movie, if not the most depressing that I have ever seen. It was funny, strangely romantic, violent, and depressing all at once. This film just painted such a vivid picture of a man who totally drinks himself away and the prostitute who fell in love with him. This was a very daring and original film. I would not recommend that any children should see it. Its R rating is well-deserved, for pervasive extreme alcohol abuse, strong sexual content including some nudity, language, and violece including a rape. Leaving Las Vegas is not the feel-good movie of the year at all. It is just an incredible film with very depressing elements. I give it five stars for the performances, the dialogue, the directing, the makeup, and the film as a whole.

Summary: Three Words: Brutal, Honest, and Beautiful
Review: I have never written a review for amazon.com before, but I was so touched by this film that I thought I could share my thoughts with others. I have seen numerous movies in my life that have story lines about love. Unlike other films,though, this one doesn't try to manipulate the viewer's feelings. The honesty in this dark movie is what makes it soar above any other film.
These characters aren't people you envy or admire; they are just lost souls who are simply looking for love and acceptance. This film effortlessly makes you care so much for the characters because it presents them as flawed human beings who want nothing more than to feel love and to give love. This movie is touched me so deeply because it was a visual representation of feelings of my own life when I am forced to drop my guard and examine my own life and person I truly am. Please, don't even bother reading anymore reviews because this movie will brings tears to your eyes as a result of its unwillingness to give into the boring cliches and stereotypes that ruin so many other movies. If you can handle thinking outside of the box, you will be deeply rewarded

Summary: Burning in Las Vegas
Review: WARNING:SOME SPOILERS AHEAD , PLEASE DON'T PROCEED IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE , OR CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK! As the movie begins with the first moments , we are encountered with two completely separated charachters , (Nicholas Cage) a complete day/night drunk , never wakes of his booze , he is slowly descending to the edge , with suspecious friendships , shattered memories and irritating behaviour , he is faced with the losing of his job due to his Unresponible acts , on the other hand we meet (Elisabeth Shue) a hooker lives in Las Vegas , we take a glimpse of one of her THREESOME encounter , and we see her talks to someone after that who isn't obvious on the screen , but we take the impression that she are talking with a shrink . Returns to , aftetr he got fired he decides to end his life by living on the edge till the end , he chooses Las Vegas as the spot to achieve his goals , and we see him trashing every thing he owns , and getting ready to leave , after reaching Las Vegas he sudddenly encounters and a strange relationship grows from here , he offers her five hundred dollars just to spend the night with him , and he didn't mean it in the SEXUAL way , he just wanted her to be beside him , and things started to develop. You may think that the movie is trying to explain why such people would go on boozing till they destroy themselves , but actually the movie doesn't offer explainations of any kind , it plays like a portrait of personal experience , we see keeps destroying himself by indulging more and more in the booze , even tries to get him out of it by many ways without any success , he is presisting on destroying himself with all the methods , in one scene he is faced with a question regarding why he is insisting on doing what he is doing , he answers blankly that he is just doing it , so that proves the personal experience theory , no explainations are offered here . Mike Figgs's direction focused mainly on the disturbing and shocking elements of the storyline , which were actually various during the movie , the dark concept of the story applied to every single scene in the movie , but he definitely got help from the cast members , including the briliant performance from Nicholas Cage , who actually gave the movie extra atristic weight , also Elisabeth Shue which too a very hard and controversial role , she played her role easily and suceeded in portraying a real image of such real life character . Another elements helped the movie , like the excellent soundrtack which came very suitable for the atmosphere of the movie , the cinematography wandered freely with some strange locations , on the other hand there are other things prohibited this mvie from getting a higher score , including the lack of motivation for some characters , for example till the end of the movie you dont't know why is doing all of that to himself , why he throws all those things he own away , and departs his city to leave , also the theme of a hooker who meets a man who changes her life for better is not an unique theme , it has beeen presented many times before . but as we agreed on the personal expereience approach you will leave this movie with some kind of shocked sadness , and trust me , the performance of Nicholas Cage will be clinged in your memory for a long time .

Review: I laugh at those who call this an "honest" film...it is as Hollywood as they come. This was another perfect example of how Hollywood says a film is "art" and people simply believe it because they are sheep. Same thing with "American Beauty." When Shue pours booze on her own breasts in order to turn Cage's character on........PLEASE!! That isn't an "honest" or "powerful" statement about alcoholism--it's just stupid. If he was REALLY an alcoholic, he'd have said "You are wasting my booze! Stop it!" This flick was a con job, and all the people who lavished it with praise were [bamboozled].

Summary: I expected more to get from its DVD
Review: Well, Leaving Las Vegas is the best movie I've ever seen in my life. I couldn't sleep the night I watched the movie. I was so impressed by it. But I expected more to get from its DVD. I expected to see some Behind the scenes and additional features, but nothing is included in the DVD except the movie itself. And its qulity is not as good as it's expected. Well, I think MGM should plan to release a new special high quality version of this film which is one of the all time greatest movie in cinema history.

Summary: A Dance of Despair in the Night
Review: Mike Figgis brought this touching ode to the night to the screen, imbuing it with the transient and tragic nature of those seduced and then swallowed up by it. The director of Stormy Monday perfectly captures the sad yet often poetic beauty found in the shared loneliness of the night two souls in despair can find. On the surface it is a simple story of a man drinking himself to death and a prostitute on the streets of Las Vegas. But it is really a story of love and loss with a foreign film atmosphere and quality, giving it that rare depth where the film becomes more than the sum of its parts. Nicholas Cage gives a haunting performance as Ben Sanderson, a man who has lost everything and come to Las Vegas to drink himself to death. On his way down he meets a prostitute named Sera and in their spiraling despair they discover love. One of the most poignant moments in the film comes when Cage is on the streets of Las Vegas seeking human contact and can't remember whether he lost everything because of his drinking or started drinking because he lost everything. Cage's performance rings absolutely true and deservedly won him the Oscar. He shows with great tenderness the sad realism of being an alcoholic. Matching Cage scene for scene is Elizabeth Shue in a brilliantly realized role that should have won an Oscar. As this working girl begins to care about Ben she discovers she is not dead inside, like some, and can still love. But when Ben finally pushes her away in order to save her she realizes that if she lets him, she may very well lose this power to love and her connection to being human. Going back, however, may be more than her heart can bare. Figgis has made a mesmerizing film of almost overwhelming sadness. This is not a 'feel good' movie by any stretch of the imagination. There is both truth and poetry here though for those who know this life. Ben and Sera are like two roses; one withering at the onset of its last winter and the other finding an unexpected bud on a long dormant vine. An incredible sountrack with artist like Michael MacDonald and Sting is used to set the tone for this wonderful but difficult to watch film. Anyone who has ever been devastated by a loss and known a Sera will be moved by this heartbreaking journey into loneliness and despair. Though brilliant, its appeal may be limited and it is easy to understand why some are not as enthusiastic about it. But for those who have even seen or experienced a glimmer of this side of life and been shown the comforting tenderness of love on the way down, the final moments of this film will be almost painful to watch and deeply affecting. Figgis has made a masterpiece for all those who have walked away before the night swallowed them up completely and they were lost forever.

Summary: Magnificent but almost unwatchable --- Watch it once
Review: God this was a depressing movie. I am no fan of fluffy feel-good movies, but this was almost too much for me to endure at times. One horrible occurence follows another, but the viewer is not rewarded with any sort of redemption at movie's end. One is left feeling drained and shattered. And yet it is a strangely compelling story of unconditional love on its most stark and grim terms. Ben tells Sera that she must not try to stop him from drinking; she loves him enough to allow him to pursue, without interference, his goal of self-destruction. In a perverse way, I had to admire the single-mindedness with which Ben pursues his goal of drinking himself to death. This is not a particularly easy thing to do, but he sticks with it. I wish I could pursue my own goals with such conviction. I am glad I watched this movie, but I don't know if I could bear to watch it again. One viewing will be enough for the movie to stick with you for all time.
