Summary: Great movie, shame about the DVD!
Review: This has to be one the best movies made in Hollywood. But you can read the other reviews for the movie itself.

My concern is about the quality of the DVD release. If this had been the first DVD I'd bought it would have put me off them for life. It seems that they have used a very low resolution MPEG compression, and then used some sort of noise reduction to cover it up, which just smears the already poor picture. It can clearly be seen in chapter 16. Just watch the wall behind Cage. And if you run it slow, you can see the smearing effect very clearly.

A very poor quality effort. The laserdisk looks much better.

Summary: One of the best of the 90s
Review: Brutally realistic and graphically explicit, Leaving Las Vegas is one of those rare films which bring glorious hope and utter sadness at the same time (see Kramer v. Kramer & The Shawshank Redemption). I don't know which part of the film gives hope, but it does somehow got to do with the Cage-Shue chemistry and their powerful, bravura performances which may be THE two best of the decade. Cage shows he is the #1 of his generation in Hollywood, and Shue proves herself at last, breaking from the girl-next-door persona. Mike Figgis is the real hero here, with graphic scenes and surprisingly romantic atmospheres. This movie isn't for everybody, it's for open-minded people, the same who would understand & enjoy The People Vs. Larry Flynt and Boogie Nights.

Summary: love is a wonderful thing.
Review: what will you do when you have lost all faith? you have no reason to go on. drink to death? that's what Ben decided. we don't know why, he doesn't remember if he lost his family because of his drinking or if he was drinking because of the loss.

it doesn't really matters.

Sera is a beautiful person, she wants to live. she takes Ben with her and she wants to take care of him. she has been abused and hurted, and now it's her chance to protect.

i thought this was going to be a redemption movie. and in way it is. my favorite type of movies.

Sting! great songs by him and the rest. get the CD or tape.

"and in the end the love you take it's equal to the love you gave." (Beatles, White Album) beautiful.

PS- in the oscars, when Cage won, E.Shue was there and she was very happy, waving her hands for him. she deserved the oscar too, but then, Susan Sarandon made a great performance at "Dead Man Walking". great movie too.

Summary: The ultimate lovestory
Review: I just can't help falling in love with Elisabeth Shue each time I watch this movie. The story is tragic but indeed beatyfull. A must have for all romantics

Summary: Overblown manure. An insult to us all.
Review: I don't know what movie you all are reviewing, but the Leaving Las Vegas I saw was one of the most over-hyped, overblown, pseudo-intelligent movies I have ever seen. That's all I'll say. Perhaps I had overly large expectations due to the fact that this movie ran away with an Oscar or two, but this movie fell short on all possible levels. Frankly, I think its an insult to us all, a movie that tries to make a statement about how love can transcend boundaries but falls about 3.5 times short of a good story and plot. I've seen plenty of good movies in my day, and this is not one of them. For the record, it rates up there with movies like "Dead Man on Campus", "Howard the Duck" and "the Bodyguard" as the worst movies I've ever seen.

Summary: Last Call
Review: "Leaving Las Vegas" is a work of art. It's one of my favourite films. Metophorically speaking, it's like coming out of a club at closing time, the bright lights come on and your true self is exposed. This movie captures the nature and mentality of an alcoholic. It's not depressing, it's a reality that has been confronted and candidly projected on film, and skillfully acted out by Nicholas Cage. He captured the essence of an alcoholic and brought to life the struggle of a lost soul who has given up on life. Elisabeth Shue also does an admiral job playing his love interest. They both shined in this film, and I'm happy Nicholas won the oscar.

Summary: A SPECTACULAR FILM
Review: I have never felt so depressed watching a film since maybe The Sweet Hereafter and Exotica. Nicolas Cage gives a performance I would compare to Marlon Brando in the Godfather. Liz Shue was equally brilliant. This is quite possibly the greatest love story of all time. This love story was more touching then Titanic (even though titanic is lame but we're not talkin about that movie) I think everyone should see Mike Figgis's masterpiece. I very brilliant film that should have had a place on AFI. Great movie making.

Summary: An Outstanding Movie!
Review: This movie is one very well told story of an alcoholic on the edge. He loses his job, burns all his personal possesions and heads out to Las Vegas to have one last hurrah. The plot might sound overly deppressing, but the film is not. It's a great film with great acting, directing and very good cinematography. Nicolas Cage and Elizabeth Shue are the center here as the bluesy couple who bond with eachother. I found this film to be a very haunting and a realistic portrayal of a man who is corrupted by his own alcoholism.

Summary: Excelently put together
Review: I've seen this Movie and the truth is it made me cry to see how two very different persons could come together and be able to love each other as much as Ben(Nicholas Cage) and Sera(Elizabeth Shue) did.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Dark, but excellent
Review: Many people say that they don't like this movie because it is too depressing. I say, "Yes, but that's not the point."

The reviews above say it best--this is a love story, but most of all, it's a story of unconditional love. It's love that comes out of the most unlikely places and touches people who think that they have nothing left to give.

A dark, depressing film, but powerful. Nicholas Cage is both convincing and intense.
