Summary: A great film about youth and the power of dreams
Review: Vision Quest is a flawed movie, but also a movie that transcends its flaws with the emotional power of many of its scenes. One of the great movies of "coming of age" with one of the great, fully rendered male youths I've seen in this type of movie. The sex is handled very realistically, without romanticizing or simplifying Modine's character.

I think the thing that makes this movie so memorable is the soundtrack, and the use of the soundtrack. Youth movie directors of today should refer back to this movie to see the power of song used in the right way, not just to promote a CD. This movie makes me believe in the yearning of youth and what you can accomplish and the complexities of becoming a man. It also makes me remember a time when songs really had impact. The soundtrack is still available today, that should tell you something. Even the Journey song rings true, as incredible as that may seem.

On the rental version of this movie, the back cover presents this movie as a "feel good" film. I don't agree. It is an inspiring movie, but also achingly real and sad. There isn't really a happy ending, it is more like a snapshot in time. The hero, Matt Modine, doesn't sail off in the sunset with a girl. What you are left with is more of a snapshot of a time to remember, a time that is in retrospect too short- but a time that had such possibility and hope that you would never ever want to forget it.

Summary: Classic, a must-have!
Review: This movie is a classic, one that must be viewed at least yearly come state tournament time. The soundtrack is perhaps the BEST movie soundtrack of the 80's! Interesting to note that all 3 lead actors/actresses later "made it big".

Summary: An Inspiring Display of Courage and Determination
Review: As a first year wrestler, Vision Quest is an inspiring movie to watch, showing that your goals, no matter how impossible they may seem, are attainable if you're willing to work for it.

Summary: This movie is a classic for all high school wrestlers
Review: This movie is a damn classic. It is a little bit unreal with him beating the guy that likes to carry the logs up stadium steps, but it kicked ***.

Summary: Great Wrestling Movie
Review: In two hours, this movie shows the true dangers in high school wrestling. It is a great movie, Modine is excellent. Buy it and watch it.

Summary: a great wrestling film
Review: As a wrestler myself I found this movie to be pretty good. It depicted the life of a young high school wrestler that wanted to go for the glory. Along the way he learns about life and love as he tries to achieve his goals

Summary: It kicks ass.
Review: Except for looking a little fake in the wrestling the movie is goo

Summary: Captures the essence of American Highschool wrestling.
Review: Modine captures what thousands of wrestlers, fans, and parents have known for years. Loudin Swain is not just on some sort of adolescent mission to seek fame for himself. He is on a "Vision Quest". Along the way he learns about life, love and the sacrifice that it will take.

Summary: You don't need to be a wrestling fan to like this movie
Review: It's refreshing and energizing to see a young guy going after something crazy and almost impossible --like dropping two weight classes to wrestle an undefeated champ--out of a quest for joyousness and achievement, not out of hate or revenge. Matthew Modine is great as a high-school wrestler with "perfect balance", which gets a bit shaken when he meets a devastatingly attractive older woman. Maybe you don't get any huge surprises in this movie, but it sure is fun.

Summary: "You ever hear of Pele?"
Review: There are a lot of reasons to love this movie - It's a great coming of age tale, a solid 80's high school film - and all the reasons that other reviewers have already shared... but it stands out, in my opinion, for providing the most elegant argument for why we as a society love sports and athletes Towards the end of the movie one of the charachters gives a little pep talk about watching Pele play soccer... "and I tell you I started crying... yeah that's right I started cryin..."
