Summary: One Of The Best Movies Hollywood has EVER made.
Review: I first saw "Fatal Attraction" when it opened in 1987. It literally changed my perception of what a movie could be: in particular, what type of film Hollywood could produce. Up until that point, I was under the impression that movies removed you from reality (at least those produced in Hollywood.) "Fatal Attraction" is all the more thrilling because the world it shows is identifiable, recognizable and real. "Fatal Attraction" is set on land we tread on, not a shiny, polished version of said land, and in showing the truth, it keeps the thrills at a fever pitch.The plot is fairly straight-forward: man cheats on wife with other woman; other woman won't go away. It's the details that make "Fatal Attraction" stand out. Unlike many of it's imitators (including "Basic Instinct," another Mike Douglas psycho-female thriller,) "Fatal Attraction" is based in our reality. Alex isn't a crazed, unfeeling Uber-woman: Glenn Close makes her a real person, which, in effect, makes her all the more scary. ...Anne Archer, who vanished into the abyss after this film, delivers another "real" portrayal as the jilted wife. And Michael Douglas is superb as Dan, the cheatin' man. The performances are all first-rate: they raised the bar for what to expect from actors in sex/thrillers ... The direction is also top-notch. Lyne took all of his style sense and infused it with a sence of truth. You see the grit. His camera is your fly-on-the-wall perspective: a perfect match for this flick. The original ending is where they pulled a punch. While it is "good," in that the audience feels better and the movie is wrapped up tightly, it definetely feels like you've taken another path in the final act...almost like it's two separate films. Thankfully, the DVD has the alternate ending (which is an audience downer, but a "better" ending, in terms of plot.) It also has some great documentaries, rehearsal footage (Glenn Close is AMAZING...even then, BEFORE she landed the role) and some other goodies. Don't miss this one. It's rare that a 13-year old film still has people talking (that doesn't involve Jar-Jar and SFX.) This is one of them. There have been many imitators, genre-followers...including Lyne's own "Indecent Proposal," but there is only one original. It's Fatal Attraction. And it's is, quite simply, the best.

Summary: good movie, bad picture quality
Review: I had never seen this movie because I was about 8 or 9 at the time it came out and was not allowed to watch it. My mom told what a great movie it was and It is a big part of moderen culture so I bought the dvd without having ever seen the movie. The movie is a great thriller that is wonderfully acted by close,douglas and anne archer as the wife. The ending was a real nailbiter reminded me of the scene at the end of what lies beneath. The dvd picture qauilty is terrible, only the godfather one was this bad, lines and specks, horrible color contrast, grain and areas where the color has faded. Parmount why did'nt you remaster this. I bought Bull Durham earlier this month it is about as old as this and the transfer was very good. This is not vhs parmount it supposed to be dvd. People with digtal and large tvs will probally notice this problem even more then I did since I watched it on regular 36 inch tv. The bonus features are good though you have a 28 documentry with current intrveiws with cast and crew, A 7 minute behind thes scenes montage, the other ending to the film that was a lot darker then this, and a couple of other featurettes as well as the trailer which has a better picture then the movie. I would reccomend the dvd, But if you want dvd qauilty picture you getting the wrong dvd.

Summary: FINALLY ON DVD... But What About the Quality?
Review: I waited for a couple of months for the DVD edition of FATAL ATTRACTION to be released and bought it the day after it's official release. As a fan of this movie, I immediately looked through the "Special Features" section to see what I could find. The interactive menu features several stills from the movie dissolving in and out of a white background while your option choices stay immobile on the screen. When the menu first come son, you hear a phone ring and see a telephone while music from the score plays. Preferably, a standard Paramount DVD, it was nothing I had really seen before. - Theatrical Trailer The three featurettes are well coordinated but I would have like to have seen more production pics and behind-the-scenes within them. The trailer seems to have been restored because it is pretty sharp for a trailer on a DVD (normally, the production company just throws them on without considering the image and sound quality reproduction.) Now, for the overall image and sound quality for the DVD edition; basically, the colors are washed-out, it seems, in many cases. I would have liked to see fleshtones made slightly deeper and, in many areas, would have preferred the colors been restored to a richer, warmer correction. The grain is pretty poor. Because of the poor contrast in the reproduction, you can see small, tiny white contrast dots all over light areas. The images are solid but the detail could have been better. Scratch that...the detail/grain is probably the only decent part of the image quality. The sound quality is preferably well managed and the 5.1 channeling does the film well. Going back to image solidity, there are instances where you can see hairs and black-marks quickly flashing all over the screen - a big annoyance when the film's supposed to have been "digitally restored." They're lucky I love this movie! Adrian Lyne's commentary is interesting and informative, although many will probably disagree with me. Over all, I would give this DVD about four stars for content but three stars for image quality. Seriously.

Summary: Fatal Attraction, a thriller and a chiller
Review: After seeing Fatal Attraction, the movie really had a powerful affect on the subject matter(at the time of its release) of being faithful to your spouse. Glenn Close's character just blew me away completely and Michael Douglas as the husband to Anne Archer who realizes his mistake of fooling around with Close will cost him physically and emotionally.

Summary: One of the scariest movies I've ever seen!
Review: When it first came out in the theaters(that was a long time ago), I went to see it without any expectations. But when the movie was over, I could feel myself shivering with dread. I mean, I could really feel my face go pale. And when I looked at other guys coming out of the theater, they all had the same look on their faces - shock! On the other hand, all the women had this satisfied look on their faces... I've seen a lot of movies. But to this day, this was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. If you haven't seen this movie yet, get the DVD!

Summary: One of the best suspense films of all time! Well acted!
Review: Michael Douglas and Glenn Close give the performance of their careers, in this classic! The story is very convincing, as this kind of nerve racking situation could very well happen to a man or woman, who cheats on his/her spouse....by sleeping with a psycho, who would do anything to threaten the couple's marriage, if that person couldn't be indulged! This can happen! Douglas plays the husband, who discovers this intriging woman, Close, at a book social - they meet and, soon, become attracted with each other! His wife goes away for a weekend to her parent's house - and Douglas begins a brief and secretive affair with Close. After that weekend, Douglas goes on with his work and life, as if nothing ever happened. His wife returns with their young daughter, and the family lives happily ever after....that soon changes when Close begins harassing him with phone calls at work and at home; the blood begins to boil as her harassment begins to put him over the edge! The secret between them could be leaked out by her....so he has to do everything in his power to keep a lid on this liaison....the tension between the two gets more heated as the film goes on! It will keep you glued to the screen and on the edge of your seat....it's that good of a film!!!! The infamous boiling bunny scene is effective, in showing just how crazed Close's character is in getting back at Douglas! This is one roller coaster of a ride....you'll see!!!! I highly recommend that you purchase this DVD!

Summary: A lesson to never commit adultery!
Review: I bought this movie becuase of Micheal Douglas. I love his acting. I love the way he acts when he's under pressure and when he is mad. When I saw this movie for the first time, I had to have it. Glenn Close does a fantastic job as a crazy women who seems innocent, but then turns clingy and demanding. She will go beyond anything just to get what she wants. The storyline is wonderful. It keeps you in suspense at all times and the director does a great job at doing that. If you want a thrill ride with suspense, then this movie is the ticket. Enjoy!

Summary: The best suspense movie ever made!
Review: With a premise that resembles DRESSED TO KILL and BASIC INSTINCT (which was, by the way, made after this), although the plots are different, FATAL ATTRACTION has got to be, besides PSYCHO, the best suspense movie of all time. It has it all- great acting from an all star cast, featuring Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, Ann Archer, and Stuart Pankin; some REALLY scary moments (such as the "rabbit scene" and the ending); a believeable plot; great set pieces; and steamy love scenes. Though the plot can be sometimes predictable, it is well-crafted, and sure to make you afraid to cheat on your wife! A married man (Michael Douglas) has a weekend fling with another woman (Glenn Close), while his wife (Anne Archer) and daughter are gone, looking for a house in which to live. When they return, Douglas wants nothing else to do with Close-- that is when she turns psychotic, sadistically stalking him and his family, until he is forced to tell his wife about his affair with Close; because of the news that she is pregnant with his child. Close is unrelenting; frequently calling their new home, only to hang-up when Archer answers. I won't reveal all of the surprises-- that is the main reason to watch FATAL ATTRACTION. All I can tell you is, the ending is a doozy! The DVD market is now doing better in releasing everyone's favorite film, remastered with plenty of extras to make us happy. We have had to wait so long for them to come out though, and now that they are, we feel good about the decision we made when buying a DVD player. FATAL ATTRACTION is one of the films we have waited so long to come out on DVD. What took Paramount so long to release a classic such as this? I don't know. All I do know is that I am sure as hell going order it when it comes out to buy! The extras sound FANTASTIC, and this will probably be one of my favorite DVDs in my collection. This DVD will be a must for any collector!

Summary: It's trash, to be sure, but it's stylish, likeable trash.
Review: "Fatal Attraction" isn't so much an erotic thriller as it is a stalker suspenser. Sure, the movie begins with the standard lurid sex scenes involving two respected actors pawing at each other like there's no tomorrow. But rather than succumb to such torrid displays of goofy, laughably cheesy eroticism, the material actually becomes interesting in its second half, building a solid sense of menace and intensity around the mind games of its psychotic centerfold. Michael Douglas stars as Dan Gallagher, a lawyer whose firm's clients include a well-known publishing company in New York City. His wife, Beth (Anne Archer), has hopes of moving out of their city apartment and buying a house in Bedford, where she and their young daughter travel for the weekend. And as they say, when the cat's away, the mice will play, which is just what Dan does when he crosses paths with Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), an editor from the publishing company whom he spends the weekend with. So far, so mediocre. The various conversations between characters meant to advance the plot are silly and ongoing, while the inevitable images of lustful satisfaction between Douglas and Close provide some unintentional laughs that seem to work in the film's favor. Once you see these two credible performers manhandling one another, you have a choice: you're either in or you're out. The film picks up considerable momentum once the reality of the situation sets in. Dan realizes that he can't continue seeing Alex, who becomes embittered when he avoids her phone calls and dismisses her from his office after an invitation to the opera. As he tries to juggle his secret and keep up the pretence of happiness with his family, Alex acts as a thorn in his side that keeps inching deeper and deeper, until he acknowledges the fact that she is a real threat to his family's safety. This turn of events isn't as unexpected as it would hope to be; from the various expressions of underlying menace that grace Close's face, we can already gather that she's cooking up more than just spaghetti for dinner. But, as we wait in breathless anticipation of Alex's next move, the shocks multiply, the suspense grows, and everything we initially thought about the film's beginning act is but a memory as we follow the plot into familiar yet overall satisfying grounds. Much of this rests on the shoulders of Close, who carries her character so well that any inhibitions one may have about the extent to which her character will go are left behind. Alex's coolly-calculated, ultimately psychotic plan of attack gives way to moments of sheer lunacy that Close masters with little more than a delightfully menacing smirk. When Dan finally comes clean and gets the police involved, we know just what she's going to do, and how she's going to do it, but under such a brooding performance, it all seems fresh. It's also quite nice to see Michael Douglas squirm as the victim of the movie's role-reversal, where this time, the woman makes all the rules. His performance here is commendable, and he does show a sincere amount of fear and worry over the revelation of his dark secret, and the safety of his wife and child. His scenes with Close carry their weight in sweaty-palms tension, as well as some sweet lessons about the consequences that he must face as a result of his affair. If you have the stomach to stick with "Fatal Attraction," you may find yourself enjoying it for its acting zeal and wonderfully-executed second half. It's trash, to be sure, but it's stylish, likeable trash, made so by a predictable plot tailored with a low-lying charge of intensity that grips the viewer by the hair until the blazing, bloody end.

DESPITE THE INJUSTICE OF THE ACADEMY, THAT YEAR, (IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE THOUGH, AFTER ALL THE ACADEMY NEVER RECOGNIZED ALFRED HITCHCOCK WITH AN OSCAR EITHER) GLENN CLOSE'S PERFORMANCE IN THIS MOVIE WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR 1987 OR ANY YEAR SINCE. THERE HAS BEEN NO OTHER ACTRESS, BEFORE OR SINCE, WHO HAS CAPTURED THE RANGES OF EMOTIONS, THAT GLENN CLOSE DISPLAYS IN "FATAL ATTRACTION". FROM SEXY SEDUCTION TO ANGER REJECTION, FROM LONELY DESPERATION TO HOMICIDAL PSYCHO, GLENN CLOSE'S PERFORMANCE, IN "FATAL ATTRACTION", IS NOTHING SHORT OF THE GREATEST MOMENTS OF ANY ACTRESS, OR ACTOR, IN MOVIE HISTORY!!! FOR THE FEW, WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN "FATAL ATTRACTION"...ARE YOU IN, FOR A TREAT!!!
