Summary: This will make your top 10 list
Review: OK. You and a friend go grab a 6-pack, some cheap bourbon, 2 packs of smokes and strap yourself in. This is one of the most brilliant films of our time, but also one of the most under-rated. Rourke gives his best performance ever (however, being a method actor, he also got blacklisted in Hollywood after filming this movie). Dunaway also shows her amazing versitility and talent. This is one you'll want to own, not rent.

Summary: Take Henry's hand, have a beer, and enjoy the ride
Review: Anyone who enjoys Bukowski will enjoy this movie. You must have a sense of humor and a slighty tainted view of the world to love it as much as I do!! I think of it as a sort of drunken ballet.

Perhaps because I am young I believe that everyone has a "henry" in them somewhere. Henry may never introduce himself to their reality, but he's there. The cynic, the one dangerously close to the edge. Watch the movie and don't take it too seriously. If you do...you might find it terribly depressing. Enjoy the mad dance of life and have a cold one!!!

Summary: My favorite movie, ever!
Review: I'm not saying it's the greatest movie ever made (for my money, that's Casablanca) but it is my personal favorite. I've seen it a hundred times or more and it never gets old. The first time I saw this film was a few weeks after it was released when my then-girlfriend, a couple of buddies of ours and I jumped in the car in Lexington, KY, and drove to New York just so we could see Barfly. We saw it in a little theatre in the Village and I'm here to tell you that it was worth the trip.

Bukowski rules! Barfly is a great American film.

Summary: One Of My Favorite Films Of All Time
Review: This was one film that should have been nominated for Best Picture and Mickey Rourke for Best Actor. If you love the writings of Charles Bukowski you will love this movie. I have seen this film dozens of times and I see something different in it everytime: sometimes it is tragic, sometimes it is funny, sometimes it is depressing. The film is a rousing, emotional experience. It also features the best female fight scene I have ever seen.

Summary: A portrayal of L.A. seediness...
Review: Being a huge Bukowski fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Mickey Rourke makes for a good, sloppy drunk and Faye Dunaway is perfect as his female counterpart. Extremely humorous--especially Mickey's dialogue with Frank Stallone's character, a macho blockhead bartender. A lot of fun, but very black.

Summary: the poignancy of trash
Review: a fantastic film for anyone who enjoys writing drunken poetry at 4 in the morning while the refrigerator hums and finds the quiet dignity of dive bars far more alluring than the thumping freneticism of the "hot spots". some choice lines too.

Summary: One of the most sincere films
Review: Great performance by "straight edge" Rourke. He didn't like drunkls, but after this film he changed his perspective. Even Bukowski told that he liked his performance and Rourke is known as sobber guy. Fay is really explosiv piece and she was the only woman that could play that role. Maybe it is too European for Americans that are used to spectacles.

Summary: I've never had any complaints
Review: I first watched Barfly after my roommate rented it and I had nothing better to do. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I have since bought it and played it when people were at my house and there was no agreement over how to pass the night. So far I have had no complaints, so odds are you'll like the movie. END

Summary: Absolutely the WORST
Review: I felt as if I'd been pushed into a sewer. Avoid BARFLY! END
