Summary: Cameron Crowe has done it again!!
Review: I really loved this movie to the extreme. Once again Cameron Crowe put together a brilliant cinematic portrait. The acting was solid by every single actor in it. I am extremely impressed by Tom Cruise. I think this is his best work to date. Like, Eyes Wide Shut, he isn't afraid to show his vulnerabilty side and takes risks on all ends. It had you on the edge of your seat throughout the picture without any dull moments. It made you think intensely what the movie represents. Next to Muholland Drive, this is far one of the best movies that I have seen this year. There are plenty of twists and turns without displaying the obvious right away, as so many pictures do. Also, I highly recommend the soundtrack. Some of the finest musicians to date such as Jeff Buckley, Sigur Ros, and Radiohead.

Summary: A Great Challenge That Failed
Review: I think from the beginning "Vanilla Sky" was too difficult a project for anyone to do well. Its original "Open Your Eyes" was certainly praised by many critics, but even they would admit that it is not a movie for everyone. Frankly, when I watched it about 3 years ago, I didn't come to like it so much as other people do.

And during the release of "Open Your Eyes" and that of "Vanilla Sky" we have witnessed "The Matrix" "The Sixth Sense" and other films that would dare to bend or break the rules of narrative in their own unique ways. Now we are not easily surprised by a simple twist.

And then "Vanilla Sky" came. The complex story no longer is safe under the eye of fans, who know much complex stories told with better storytelling skill. A rather simplitic ending of the film, though it certainly tries to give a serious message, cannot live up to our expectation that went higher recently. And that message, which is worth telling, is completely gone among the unnecessary scenes, lines (worst is those uttered by Cameron Diaz in a car), and characters. Why do they need a love scene when the film should be much thought provoking? And what Timothy Spall and Tilda Swinton are doing here? Are their characters really necessary?

"Vanilla Sky" is, I think, worth a look if you're keen to know how to tell a good story; or perhaps, how not to. They could have done it much better.

Summary: It's cool
Review: Do not try to find anymore information on this movie, just go and see it. At the end of the movie you may ask yourself "what the hell just happened?", but you'll stay so interested throughout, it is worth the ending (even if you fell it is a let down)

Summary: Fantastically Weird!!!
Review: I did not expect much from Cruise and the lovely ladies. The movie however, really makes you think, contemplate and wonder about the little things in your life. The twists and so forth, in my opinion, should not be really the viewer's focus. The events and the clever one-liners should make you wonder..,
I am really impressed with Cruise and Co. for pulling this off.
Go see it.
Cheers

Summary: The Emperor's New Clothes
Review: I've looked at most of the reviews here. Intelligence and liking this movie are not related. (...)You've been duped...the Emperor is naked.
This movie will only be remembered for being one of the most expensive vanity projects in Hollywood history.

Summary: Probably 3.5 star in reality.
Review: I think that reviewers, both from the media and the general public, have been a tad hard on this film.

The Hollywoodisation of the film industry has occured, and we have become so used to constant outpourings of big budget action flicks with a touch of romance, like 'Pearl Habour', we reject anything but this norm.

From some angles, this film is easily criticised. It is beyond twisted and complicated, but lacks the fluency which pulls off other complicated works. It is long, and much of the important action and revelations occur in the final 5 minutes, which leaves the previous 2 hours and 25 minutes to befuddle audiences.

What I do not understand is the seeming complete inability to see any merit in it, for surely, it has all these problems, but presents an innovative and thought provoking concept in an interesting manner. Whilst it is no 'Almost Famous', surely, Crowe deserves some praise for exploring a relatively unexplored concept; the choice between the sweet and sour of reality and the blissful ignorance of facades and dreams. Perhaps the most similar film to this work is 'The Matrix', though 'Vanilla Sky' contains less violence, which it makes up for in twistedness.

The soundtrack is faultless, with the Radiohead's stark opening, and equally magnificent is some of the cinematography. There is a certain longing romanticism to the work, and this gorgeous camera work and the divine stars of the piece help to add a certain beauty and richness.

My main complaint, as previously mentioned, is the complete lack of fluency and the midsection, which seems drawn out and overly merticulous. The piece immediately captures the audience's attention, yet, all of a sudden starts to get very strange, very fast.

This is topped off by the ending, which is as unexpected as it is complicated. Unlike somewhat twisted films like 'The Others', there is no clue to the strange conclusion. By the work's end, which is quite profound, much of the audience has lost interest and just wants the film to end.

Crowe's main fault was overestimating his audience's ability to maintain interest, to care about the twisted protagonist by the end of the work. Dulled from all the 'Pearl Habours' out there, two and a half hours is a long time to watch anything a little outbeat, like this piece.

It is a shame, because with careful observation and some serious thought, this piece is much better than the media etc would have you believe.

Review: First movie I have ever walked out of in the middle of it.

Summary: Confusing and strange, but I liked it!
Review: Although this movie is hard to follow at times, I really liked it. I thought the acting was superb and Cameron Crowe did an excellent job of pulling stellar performances from his cast. The story reminded me a bit of "Total Recall" only because you were never sure if what was happening was real or dream. It did get quite confusing but then again, I like confusing and strange movies. To me, the whole purpose of going to a movie is to forget about things and be entertained and this movie did that for me.

Summary: Best movie I have ever seen
Review: I thnik Tom Cruise was and Penelope Cruz were amazing in this film and I plan to go see it again this following weekend. I don't know why some people don't like this movie maybe its because half of them don't use their heads. I thnik it was great and I recommended that everybody should take the time to see it and understand it. That means open your mind people.
