Summary: A tremendous offering of art and vision.
Review: I will have to admit that I was not thrilled about viewing this film, based on the cast. However, the trailers were enough to tempt my interest. As, some other reviews have stated, the trailers were not very representative of the actual film. What is new? Fortunately, the film ended up being a remarkable example of how movies can still force the audience to think about issues that they may not usually or may not necessarily want to think about. It is not the same regurgitated themes that the majority of films serve up.In addition, the film requires you to pay attention to everything that goes on. It is filled with foreshadowing and symbolism that makes for and excellent excercise for your mind. I am sure that new items that you missed previously, will jump out every time you view this film. Other reviews have indicated that it is a hard film to follow and that it does not make sense. If you are not the type whom likes to pay attention to the whole film, then Vanilla Sky is not for you. If you are intrigued by films that are not candy coated or watered down, then I highyly recommend this film to you. By the way, this is by far the greatest performance that Tom Cruise has ever done.

Summary: NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL
Review: but seldom do remakes surpass the original. I can't say i did not enjoy this movie. It followed the original fairly well,it had a great cast and Cameron crowe is responsible for some of my favorite movies ...Yet this movie did not convey the raw power of the original.
At first i assumed this was because i had seen the original(ABRE LOS OJOS) and knew the outcome, but then i watched abre los ojos again and there it was ....the full impact all over again.
i chalk it up to passion, the original writer/director ALEJANDRO AMENABAR ( who also made "THE OTHERS" with nicole kidman) was passionate about his work and knew exactly what he wanted to convey.This movie was glossed over by the hollywood "HEAVY HITTERS"( CROWE/CRUISE WHO WERE ALSO FANS OF THE ORIGINAL) who remade it, yet don't come across as fully understanding the original as it was first envisioned. I give them an A for effort but believe that alejandro's original is still the PAR for this effort.
It is still a good movie and if you do not speak spanish and/or cannot stomach subtitles then this film should not be missed,however the (OPEN YOUR EYES/ABRE LOS OJOS) IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON DVD

Summary: Did You Even Watch The Movie?
Review: Sorry folks, but to all the the reviews that said they did not know what was going on, I must ask the above question. This was different than the average movie (think 12 Monkeys) but was a pretty decent movie in the end. It's like Sixth Sense, it all flows/jives/makes sense as the end is winding down. For anyone who reads the reviews that say it was bad, I hope you have an open mind and give it a chance. It wasn't that bad.

Review: This is truely a beautiful movie. Cameron Crowe pays a romantic tribute to pop culture through the chaotic eyes of a publishing mogul (Cruise). The DVD is great. Included are behind the scenes footage from the film as well as media events attended by Crowe and stars. To me the film's ending, while however appropriate, seems a bit flawed. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. The spectacle of the film is magnificent, and the soundtrack is PERFECT. An intellectual film. Don't expect the plot to be handed to you, this film has depth.

Summary: A DISJOINTED MESS
Review: I viewed it on DVD twice and listened to director Cameron Crowe's narration. This movie is a mess, masquerading as "art".
It's like throwing an opened paint can against a wall and proclaiming it as "art" and having the usual saps take it all in and proclaim its brilliance The amazon reviewer above states "What at first promises to be a conventional allegory of redemption via true love is turned on its head as Cruise's character, reduced to wearing a latex mask and spurned by his friends, wins back his princess only after a miracle of plastic surgery restores his former beauty." Sorry but near the end the plot explicitely reveals that the reality portion for for David Aames (Tom Cruise) ends when he collapsed on the sidewalk, and later overdoses in a deep depression while still in a disfigured state. The advanced fix all version of the enhanced plastic surgery is only a dream. Of course the movie is far more confusing than this - revealing no so much a confused main character - but an amazingly messed up director and writer. Only good thing about the movie is some nice helicopter shots of NYC and some nice shots from a mythical tall building.

Summary: The massive ego of Tom Cruise has now entered the building
Review: I was skeptical about this film at first, but my mom said, "hey, it's not so bad." 5 minutes into the film I remembered why I hated Tom Cruise. Then, I began to think about a good way to end terrorism worldwide--show them this movie. As usual, Tom plays Tom again and for good measure, he throws his latest girlfriend into the picture and guess what folks? She can't ACT!! Now I do have one positive note on this film--I actually liked Cameron Diaz in her role. She gave a brilliant performance and I think this girl is being typecast as the funny girl. Hasn't every woman who has been screwed over by a man wanted to get revenge? Cameron proved to me she can be a serious actress when she wants to be. Other than that, it took me an hour to wretch and purge this film out of my system. As time went by, Tom's head got bigger and bigger and bigger and I think I threw up the contents of that head. Someone said they couldn't turn it off and this is true--I wanted to stop watching it, but something kept me going through it all, maybe a secret desire to see Cameron comeback in the end, who knows. ...

Summary: Not the finest of Cruise or Crowe
Review: I think the main problem with "Vanilla Sky" is that it is such a departure from director Cameron Crowe's previous films. While past projects like Say Anything, Singles, and Almost Famous were quirky films about relationships, this movie is mind-boggling and, at times, boring. Tom Cruise plays wealthy executive David, whose life is changed when he decides to romance lovely Sofia (Penelope Cruz) and ignore his possessive girlfriend Julie (Cameron Diaz). Julie crashes her car with David in it, killing herself and disfiguring his face. While David struggles against his unsightly appearance and the possibility of murder charges, the plot slowly builds into a confusing blur between reality and fantasy, incorporating a strange kind of death technology. Throughout most of the movie, I was not entirely sure what was going on. I didn't know who was alive or who was dead. I DID know that I was not really interested in the story. Some reviewers made an excellent point recently about the John Travolta film Basic: they said it had SO many twists and turns that it lost its steam. I believe the same thing could be said about Vanilla Sky. It's really a shame too, because I think there was a powerful message about beauty and happiness that gets lost amidst the weirdness. These kind of suspense dramas don't seem to match with Cameron Crowe. I expect this kind of film from someone like David Fincher or Christopher Nolan, but I prefer Crowe when he's writing and directing deep, humanist pictures about love and coming-of-age. I guess I have to applaud him for taking a chance on something different, but the film itself could have been much better. The performances aren't bad, which saves the movie from being a total loss. Penelope Cruz really stands out; she's the perfect charming woman to sweep Cruise's David off his feet. (Coincidence??) Mr. Cruise is average, flashing his winning smile just enough for us to believe he can emcompass what it's like to be a rich, good-looking publishing exec. Let's just say playing a handsome man that women love to stalk is not a big departure from Cruise's actual persona. Diaz lends enough craziness to be a prettier version of Glenn Close's famous Fatal Attraction psycho. I don't feel that this is as big a breakout role for her as many critics thought. (For that role, see Being John Malkovich.) Finally, Jason Lee plays Brian, the underappreciated and underrated best friend of David. He isn't allowed much opportunity to develop his character, which annoys me a bit. I guess it's still taking Hollywood time to accept him in dramatic roles. Conclusion: perhaps the original "Abre Los Ojos" should have been left alone. Nine times out of ten, remakes just don't stack up to the originals. This film just didn't work for me.

Review: Well you can't hit a home run every day. I expected Tom Cruise, with his intensely insincere smile to be the worst thing in this movie but he's fine. Nonetheless its very long, very slow, hard to follow, wildly implausible and pointless. Love the soundtrack, though.

Review: Cameron Diaz drove the actor to destruction. Only moment from this movie that is worth of watching. The rest of the movie is [junk]. I love Mulholland Drive so much and I really like Eyes wide shut. Those movies tell you something. This movie does not. All you see is a very bad and stupid director trying so hard to impress you that how smart he is but only end up making a big fool of himself.The sad thing is that you don't even feel sympathy to him. However, I do like the two minute driving scene with Cameron Diaz. It's only because the actress is good nothing to do with the director or the actor. Both Cruise and Cruz are very boring. Actually when I think of it now. There is a hidden plot: The role played by Cameron Diaz was dead in the accident, and nothing worth watching afterward.
