Summary: Excellent, but not history
Review: As a character study and an exploration of genius and creativity, this movie is beyond parallel.

Be warned, though: much of the Mozart/Salieri relationship chronicled in this film is taken from myth, not history. Mozart remained a success toward the end of his life, while the legend that Salieri poisoned Mozart out of jealousy is just that. Toward the end of his life, Salieri went crazy and started saying wild things, including that he killed Mozart -- of which there is not a scrap of evidence.

OK. I'm done ranting. Enjoy the movie.

Summary: Amdeus by Artyom Malkov sergeym@jps.net New York
Review: AMADEUS. By Artyom Malkov The movie begins when old Salieri trying to commit suicide. He hurt himself and people transfer him to mental institution. Priest was brought to his room, so Salieri could help himself and tell the priest his sins. That where the movie begins, Salieri stating to tell his story of killing Mozart. Salieri believe that he has power from a god to write music, and he believe that he is the best at it. Until Mozart comes by invitation of emperor. His talent after few written operas " Marriage the Figaro " and "The abduction from the seraglio" become clear to Salieri , he sees the talent given by a god. Father of Mozart comes to his come and find there no friendly feelings in Mozart family, he go back to Germany. After a while the news that Mozart's father dead comes from Germany. Mozart write opera "Don Govani ". "Salieri secretly loathes Mozart's crude and bratty personality, but is astounded by the beauty of his music. That's the heart of Salieri's torment--although he's in a unique position to recognize and cultivate both Mozart's talent and career, he's also consumed with envy and insecurity in the face of such genius. That such magnificent music should come from such a vulgar little creature strikes Salieri as one of God's cruelest jokes, and it drives him insane." He come up with an idea to kill Mozart , he appears in the mask of the Mozart's father which he wore before his death ,order him a death mess for somebody he doesn't tell .Saleri planing it to be a death mess for death of Mozart. Mozart become more and more sick and his family leave him too because he became alcoholic .The last play that Mozart finished was "Magic flute", for German peons. He felt himself sick on this play after all alcohol he drank, and he fainted. Salieri decide to kill him by overwhelming him with a work, so he help Mozart to get home and then he start helping to Mozart write his death mess. In the morning when they decide to rest Mozart's wife Stanzi came with their son and asked Salieri to go away , but he said until your husband tell me to live ,I wont leave. By that time Mozart was already dead and all left to do is to bury him. 1. W. A. Mozart -The main character of the story. He is very busy and he don't care if he has money as long as he have enough for parties and cannot keep money in his hands, he always spend them on parties and his alcohol addiction. He has been followed by Salieri, who trying to getting him look bad in front of Emperor or killing Mozart. Mozart very simple minded he doesn't know how to act in front of Emperor of Viena , but his music helps him get attention of an Emperor 2. Stanzi Mozart-She is five of Mozart, simple women from family of not rich parents. She trying to help Mozart gain money ,but he is too much in work to listen to here . Priest- he comes to help old Saliery , by telling him his sins and he is the reason Saliery tell us the story.

Review: The people are chosen for this movie , very well. I agree that they play excellent performance in the movie. Yes, movie was interesting from cover to cover ,I couldn't stop watching it. I seen it 3 times and I don't mind to see it again. Yes it has some humor, mainly around Mozart. I would highly recommended to any member of my family and also to all of my friend. In the end it slowed down a little beat, I also would like to hear most of Requiem not only little bit of it.

Summary: Highly entertaining and wonderful music
Review: What a great movie. Even for those not into classical music like myself, it is a very engrossing film that you can`t help but enjoy. You find yourself sympathising with both of the main characters - ultimately Mozart is more talented but too naive to notice the movements around him - pathos is here also. A great movie

Summary: Amadeus is a movie that looks at the person behind the music
Review: Amadeus portrays Mozart not only as the musical prodigy, but as a person with faults and problems of his own. Tom Hulce is at the top of his form as Mozart. The score, being made up of mostly Mozart's own music, adds even more to this delightful film. I love this movie!!!

Summary: Entertaining!
Review: F.Murray Abraham was wonderfully cast as the composer, Salieri, and was so beliveably emotional as he spoke with the priest about Mozart. Jeffrey Jones played the part of the Emperor very well. His line, "Too many notes!" is a classic! The first 2/3 of the movie was very well done; however, the last 1/3 seems as though it was written by a different staff of people and it should have had a better closure of Mozart's final days. Overall, a very deserving film for it's many Oscar nominations!!!

Summary: Mozart's work lives in this feast for the eyes and ears.
Review: The introduction of plausible conflict in this colorful tale of a bygone era brings the compositions of Mozart (Hulce) to glorious life. A rival composer, the bitter, mediocre Salieri, masterfully portrayed by F. Murray Abraham, brings about Mozart's premature demise by musical sorcery. The sets and the costumes are plush background for stellar performances. Mozart's work lives and breathes.

Summary: Fantastic... Spellbinding... A must have for musicians!
Review: Most people who have studied music at some time in their lives have heard the name of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is an attempt to recreate his life via film. Tom Hulce is brilliant, and he's the most notable of the actors and actresses in this Oscar winning movie. Elizabeth Berridge and Catherine Ebersole have been in sitcoms since the movie, but I'm pretty sure that Amadeus would top their resumes. (I'm not talking alphabetically here.)

The movie's soundtrack is awash in Mozart's music, and there is a track which enables you to listen to the music only on the DVD version. This DVD comes with a featurette on the making of the movie. It's well worth watching before the movie so that you can get the background information about the time, music and character.

The title character, Mozart, is well acted and you get to know almost all sides of him. It's a shame that this man died at 35. When that part comes in the movie, you may find yourself reaching for a hankerchief. After watching Mozart dictating music to Salieri (F. Murray Abraham) you'll want to have the Requiem mass played at your funeral. END

Summary: Imaginative non-biography of a musical genius
Review: Milos Forman's "Amadeus" set to screen Peter Schaffer's epic play on the life of Mozart. Though not historically accurate, it was never intended to be, it generated an interest in classical music and Mozart that was a tidal wave. Peter Schaffer is one of the foremost authorities on Mozart and he deftly crafted a piece on Mozart that is a fantasy that might be considered a travesty by some (perhaps rightly so) but shows the way Mozart was perceived through the life of his rival, Antonio Salieri.

Though a lot of the movie is not accurate, the acting, music, costume and direction were outstanding. A lot of movie was shot in the Czech republic where Mozart first played his "Marriage of Figaro". The Academy of St. Martins in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner did a superb job with the music. Murray Abraham does a fantastic job as Salieri. Right from the beginning when he receives the priest to the end when he says that he is mediocrity personified, he is superb in his role. The ending piece,

"Do not worry Father. I will speak for you, I speak for all the mediocrities in the world, I am their champion, I am their patron saint".

is outstanding.

Tom Hulce however needs a lot to be deserved as Mozart. While he acts as a childish, silly, spoilt person, it is well known from the biographies of Mozart of authors such as Maynard Solomon that he was always well behaved in public. This movie did have a great effect in public though. When the laserdisc people went to the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1985 to do research for the movie, they were rebuffed. This movie was considered an anathema. However, when they went back to 10th year collector's edition disc, the response was opposite. Without any opposition, the scholars considered the movie an outstanding achievement and cultural contribution to the musical world. The interest it generated speaks for itself, all else is secondary. I can say this personally that a lot of people who had no interest in opera got interested in it after this movie. Sometimes things like that requires such catalysis. This movie is a creative masterpiece, though it will always generate controversy. For any person having doubts, I would suggest checking it out and then making decisions. I personally feel that this is one of best movies of that decade.
