Rating: Summary: Mozart, a man before his time. Review: I'm not good at writing, but...The comic nature that Tom brings to the character of Mozart is superb. From what I have read on Mozart, the movie plays well, touching lightly on different parts of Mozart's life. While not going into great depth on anything, the movie is one not to be missed. The best thing about the movie is the approach from another composer who has admired Mozart's work anonymously, and feels his actions may have lead to Mozart's demise. The musical scores are awesome... listen in Surround!
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best movies ever made Review: The first time I saw this movie I was thirteen and in a general music class. Obviously, the idea of watching a movie about Mozart did not thrill me. However, from the first ten minutes of the movie, I was bowled over by the film. I remember walking to my next class absolutely spellbound, still involved in the world of Mozart and Salieri. Something about it is incredibally beautiful and powerful. It also has a sense of humor and doesn't take itself too seriously, the way many dramas do (I'm fairly sure this is what held my attention for the first ten minutes of the film.) F. Murray Abraham gives an extremely convincing performance, and Tom Hulce gives the film much of its humor with his bizarre laugh (it must be heard to be believed.) I recommend it to anyone, even (and especially) if you absolutely detest large costume dramas. It is in a league of its own and it will stay with you for quite some time.
Rating: Summary: The true , but unreal life of Mozart. Review: After seeing this film, all I could thought was this movie was well deserved to be named by best picture of the year. We don't know if it's true, but Mozart in here isn't only a genious, but also showed him as a prodigal. And F. Murray Abraham is showed as a court composer who DOESN'T like Mozart. This isn't only a film that shows all of Mozart as a great composer, but it also shows how he was as a human being. He was an expert in music, but not in his own life. I don't know how Milos Forman could receive two best pictures. It's pretty hard for even a nomination!! Abraham was one of the coolest acting I've ever seen since Jack Nicholson. He acted so real, it really made me fascinated and enjoyable to see this film. Some people who don't like this film should see this more and more. Films like these don't come out that often. I give 4.5 out of 5.
Rating: Summary: A Mediocre Mozart Review: As a work of fiction, this movie was acceptable. Yet, it is the reason that many people think Mozart was a childish pervert. He wasn't. He actually was very intellegent and capable of upholding the strict standards of decorum of 18th century Vienna. Shaffer has created a fictional Mozart, and that has greatly influenced the way society pictures the true Mozart. If one wishes to see a mediocre example of film-making, watch this movie. If one wishes to see how Mozart really was. . . just listen to his music.
Rating: Summary: Marvelous look at a musical genius. Review: Years ago, a bridge acquaintance was raving about a film he had just seen in the theater. This film was "Amadeus". I had reservation going in (often, when someone gushes about a movie, it never lives up to the hype). As it turned out, this movie was as good as advertised, and even more so. The story of Mozart is told by a jealous, aging court composer (Salieri) in flashbacks. What's fascinating about this film is the fervered hatred this also-ran composer has for Mozart, which contrasts sharply to his absolute love of the genius's talent and music. Although I doubt it is even close to being historically accurate, it is a great fictional story and the music is wonderful. Add to that, a worthy oscar-winning performance by E. Murray Abraham, fine performances by the entire cast, and one is left with a film that can be enjoyed over and over. Between 1 and 10, Amadeus gets a solid 9.
Rating: Summary: Everyone already knows this is the best movie ever Review: Whoever has anything against Tom Hulce's spellbinding take on Mozart obviously didn't exactly notice F.'s loooong, dragged breathing sequences of "pain" in front of the priest in the assylum. We all know the Academy is bull, and that giving the Oscar to the one movie that deserved it (Amadeus) it certainly COULDN'T go so far as to award Tom for his 100x harder role (than FMA's) all in the same night. So all of you who take your time to rate this movie so that you can point out how great Abraham is, and how Tom was "overacting" can shove your review ... Tom Hulce rules!!! And yes, it is sad the story is concentrated around Salieri too much.
Rating: Summary: This turned me on to Classical Music when I was 12 years Old Review: This movie is amazing. I have watched it more than 10X. The reason I can watch it so many times, is because of the wonderful acting of not only Abraham and especially Hulce (with his delightful unimitatable laugh) but Berridge, and Jones. There is not one bad performance in this movie. I sometimes sit in front of the mirror and try to shadow Hulce's, Jones' or Abraham's parts to no avail. If you have seen this movie twice it is not enough, as the story is not important. I fell asleep the first time I saw it, but the second time it was interesting, the third time even more so. Then I bought the Amadeus soundtrack and eventually the VHS movie. Hitherto, I had not bought a movie for myself ever. Presently I have four biographies on Mozart, and I enjoy them all. Certain musical dinosaurs may say that this movie is inaccurate, which is true. But it made me want to find out what Mozart was really like. Initially i was a little peeved that the director took such wide artistic liberties, but later I realized that this sensationalism was what got me hooked on mozart in the first place. I thoroughly recommend this movie. However, it is not for everyone. I liked it so much after the third showing because I am a classical music student. I even looked for an Amadeus movie script on the Net. I'm sure that I have now convinced you to buy this movie, if not to rent it.
Rating: Summary: leaves out the trials of mozart in his greatest works Review: i have seen another amadeus(maybe out of stock) , not this one with abraham. this movie did little justice to the his great works , with little mention of his works and life. the movie was more on the life of Salieri then it was on mozart. i would not recommend this movie . as a mozart artist and player this is a shame of a great composer. there is (an) i will find a movie of better quality of his great life and works.one that portrays his greatest conquest his requim that was left undone as he was still writing it as he laid dying in bed. should someone have a movie of a better quality please email me. the qreatest composer of the time must have a movie of his equal out there.
Rating: Summary: Sheer Genius! Review: Sheer genius not just for Mozart's enchanting music, but also for the wonderful direction, script, brilliant acting (especially by F. Murray Abraham) and gorgeous costumes. A fine, fine production!
Rating: Summary: My All time Favorite Review: This movie is the best I have ever seen. I absolutely fell in love with it. There is no bad aspect about this movie. The acting was superb. The costumes and scenery were the some of the best I have ever seen. This movie really takes you back to Mozart's century and makes you feel for both of the leading men. This movie is also very funny. There are a couple of scens that will make you chuckle and smile. The music is absolutely fabulous and is weaved into the movie beautifully. I never once got bored with this movie. It definitely deserved its spot on the Top 100 films and will remain great. Everyone should watch this movie. It will really touch you. It shall remain my all time favorite movie.
