Summary: A captivating and complex story with "real" music
Review: I love this movie for its under-story. Salieri's conviction that God is his enemy, and God's representation on Earth is a Trickter par excellence; Hulce as Mozart. For some reason, I believe that Mozart himself would love this role and story-line. The soundtrack to this film is sublime is its most awesome, frightening and beautiful meaning.

Summary: The best in it's genre and an excellent movie overall!
Review: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's life is shrouded in legend, and who better than Hollywood to exploit the myths? With "Amadeus," we're presented with a compelling, albeit inaccurate, portrayal of the maestro's life, and the results are beautiful!

The strength in any good movie always starts with the acting, and "Amadeus" is well-equipped in that catagory. F. Murray Abraham delivers a great performance as Mozart's envious colleague, Antonio Salieri, while Tom Hulce hands us a memorable enactment of the title character. Added to the mix are fine efforts by the supporting cast, rounding out the presentation.

Imagery is crucial in films of this sort, and we are not disappointed in this area; cinematography is excellent and art direction is fabulous. The opera scenes are magnificent, making the viewer feel as though they were present.

The only qualm that I have with this film is that it's slightly too long. Those interested in the subject will have no problem with it, others may be somewhat tested. Nonetheless, my above rating should read: "4 1/2 stars."

Don't fret over the historical inaccuracies of this work, if you want the "real" Mozart, watch a documentary. This film is about storytelling. Surrender to it, you'll be glad you did!

Summary: An amazing film
Review: People have expressed to me reservations about this film. What I say is put: them a side and enter into the spirit of this venture whole heartedly. Alow your self to be carried off by Milos Forman's stunning visuals, surrend To F. Murray Abraham's anger but most of all revel in Tom Hulce's amazing portrayal of this genius. It is a film garanteed to make you laugh, cry and curse the patron saint of mediocrity in equal messure. An amazing film.

Summary: A Cinematic Failure
Review: Based on the superior and intellectually taunt stage play, the film version of Amadeus boasts an exceptional performance by Abraham, remarkable art direction and costume design, and a fascinating glimpse into the Austrian court. Unfortunately, it is also riddled with enough minor annoyances to completely undercut these virtues. Chief among these annoyances is an extensive dilution of the original play's theme, which is generally trashed in favor of a more soap opera-ish focus. Another significant annoyance is the wild disparity in accents used by the actors in the film, with Hulce a prime example; his otherwise interesting performance is significantly hampered by a determinedly modern American accent, a circumstance which makes it difficult to accept him in the title role. At best, Amadeus is an interesting failure; at worst, it is an example of a brilliant play watered down to appeal to the lowest common denominator of popular taste.

Summary: Everything a great movie can provide
Review: "Amadeus" was covered with praises and honors. It was a huge success in the world and made many people discover Mozart and his music.

I think nobody can deny that "Amadeus" is an absolute masterpiece. This is the kind of film you can watch again and again without get tired of it because it's beautifully done , it's enthralling and it's full of details that you discover and rediscover each time you see it. There is no weakness but everything cinema can provide: this film is funny, entertaining, moving, powerful, and even sometimes scary!

There are many great scenes. The one with Mozart dictating the requiem to Salieri is, according to me, one of the most beautiful and powerful scene ever, which should be shown to everyone interested in music and artistic creation. At last, the way Mozart's sublime music is made use of is a wonder.

Nevertheless, Milos Forman's work has provoked indignant reactions about the freedom taken in the matter of historical truth and about the not very conventional portrayal of Mozart. I think that those who have such reactions don't understand a thing about cinema. "Amadeus" is not a documentary. I'm happy that scriptwriter Peter Schaffer hasn't respect the historical facts, otherwise it would have been boring. Schaffer has used them in a clever way and has turned them into a captivating plot. At last, the Mozart shown in the film is very engaging and is close to the real one (I'm sorry for those who has thought Mozart was an well-educated angel sitting still at his piano)

I'm grateful to Forman and Schaffer for giving me the film of my life and for making Mozart become even more popular. Their work is the most marvelous tribute to this genius and his sublime music, that I could imagine.

Review: Great movie which really portrays Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's life

Summary: Blew me away
Review: This sits in my top ten of my all time favs because it is so hypnotic and so masterful that you don't dare turn your head from the screen. Tom Hulce gives the performance of his career as the troubled Mozart. The ending is sad and troubling, you feel for the characters because they are so believable. Milos Forman is an incredible director.

Summary: Absolutely Amazing
Review: This first time I saw this film I was only three years old and I have to say I fell in love with it. Even today, it still tops my favorite films list. As many have said the story of Mozart's life may not have been portrayed completely accurate, but the story they do portray is an excellent one. It is one of very few movies that I would suggest everyone watches.

Summary: THE HALLMARK OF ABRAHAM'S CAREER.
Review: I don't even like classical music, much less Mozart, but F. Murray Abraham delivered one of the finest performances I have ever seen. Who cares if Salieri's contempt was over-exaggerated? "Amadeus" was the deserved winner of the 1984 Best Picture because of Hulce's excellence as a bawdy, immature genius and Abraham's anguish for playing such a believable "patron saint of mediocrity." If you haven't seen "Amadeus," you've missed on something great.

Summary: The Film That Made Antonio Salieri Immortal
Review: It brought the maybe exagerated story of Salieri's hatred of Mozart to the wide audience. Salieri yearned to be immortal like Mozart and now he is. After the release of the film many of his works became available on CD. The film made classical music sales jump 400%. "Mediocrities everywhere. I absolve you. I absolve you. I absolve you. I absolve you. I absolve you all. " - Antonio Salieri (F.Murray Abraham)

P.S: catch Abraham's new film Star Trek: Insurrection!
