Summary: Absolutely magnificent
Review: This film is one of the most brilliant movies I have ever seen. The acting of Tom Hulce as Mozart is truly wonderful, he puts such dimension and passion into his performance that one can't help but hear the music of Mozart without thinking of him. F. Murray Abraham's performance as Antonio Salieri is pure genius. His performance gave me chills and made me cry. He was frighteningly good.

Summary: What¿s all the fuss about?
Review: I fell prey to a deception: Academy Award: Best Picture, Produced by: Saul Zaentz. In this case, that combination was hardly worth the paper on which it was printed.

I knew little about the life of Mozart when I started watching, and knew little more upon completion. Sure it's lavish, and sure it's grand, and it is fun. Maybe too many caricatures, not enough reality? I can't imagine the finished product is the film they set out to make.

Don't get me wrong. It's not the responsibility of every historical film to educate, but usually a certain amount of education comes with the territory. Here it is all a la carte I am saddened to say.

This film hardly stands in there with many of the Best Picture winners, but it is by no means the bottom of the heap either.

On to the next.

Summary: Amazing.
Review: When I first saw this movie in my music class back in eighth grade, I was blown away. Now I have seen this movie many times, and I love every minute of it. Every shot is beautiful. But it does not exceed the beauty of Barry Lyndon.

Summary: Mozart himself would be happy with this portrayal
Review: The cinematography is astounding. The costumes are breathtaking. Tom Hulce, as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, transports the viewer back to late 18th century Vienna. Mozart is no longer a stale, two-dimensional child prodigy, but a vibrant, humorous, sometimes lewd, flawed, and, tragically, short-lived genius. Merely mentioning his name calls to mind the pinnacle of human brilliancy. Other major characters, such as F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri (Mozart's purported nemesis), are equally captivating. Any history or classic music fan must see this masterpiece. Need I even mention the music?

Summary: forget expectations, just let yourself go...
Review: To those who criticize this movie for not staying true to the original screenplay or the actors lack of authentic accents, I say, take it for what it's worth...and it's worth a bundle! I'll never forget what cinematic experience this was to see in a large-screen theater with great sound. At the time, I thought it was the greatest movie I'd ever seen. There's no way that the small screen can match that, but all the strengths are still there: great acting, great period detail (except for the accents), a GREAT soundtrack, and how about the opera scenes! I'm not an opera fan, but I think if I could see one in person staged like that I certainly would be. Perhaps the strongest part of the movie is the contrasting lives of the two main characters, and the poignancy of Salieri's torment with his own mediocraty when he compares himself to Mozart. It' something that I'm sure that many of us mediocre souls have struggled with, so there is a strong identification with this tragic character. Ironies and poignancy abound, and combine with the music to paint a masterpiece of cinema. I don't own a lot of movies, but I wouldn't want to be without this.

Summary: This movie is grand
Review: This is a great movie. If I had never seen it, I would never have developed an interest in the music or the life of Mozart. This movie is by non means a biography of W. A. Mozart, but it does focus around his life. Amadeus is a very wonderful and very entertaining film. It is a must see for all.

Summary: Review of the DVD
Review: The DVD is just what you would expect. The quality is unbeleivable and really adds to the experience of watching the movie. The video and audio are superb and really aren't comparable to the VHS version.

Summary: Who has actually seen the DVD version?
Review: I've seen this film many times--but before I buy the DVD I'd like a review of the DVD--who has seen it on DVD? Though I know the DVD version is probably spectacular, I'd still like to know what other people think.

Summary: Thrilling!
Review: Awesome. I saw this in a theater when it first came out, and I've seen it numerous times since then. And each time I seriously lose myself in the beauty of it all. The music is excellent--of course I love all of Mozart's works--I mean, the way it is woven into the story...I especially love the part when Salieri so passionately describes Serenade No. 10 in B-Flat Major (Serenade for the Winds)... F. Murray Abraham (Salieri) and Tom Hulce (Mozart) are truly amazing--their passion is breathtaking! What can I say? I love love this movie! Oh, and this film isn't historically accurate, but it was never meant to be--in case you're wondering.
