Summary: Love and Basketball
Review: This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. I first saw the movie on TV; it was obvious that some scenes were deleted. I bougth the DVD and I have watched it everyday (sometimes more than once a day). This is a classic love story. I loved the way Ms. Prince-Bythewood portrayed the characters (Monica & Quincy)during the stages of their lives - youth, teenages to young adults. The transformation was very realistic and you saw the devlopment & maturity at each stage. Sanaa & Omar did an outstanding job depicting the writer\director's vision. At the conclusion of each viewing, I am sad because I want to see more. I wish it had been a 3hr movie or the DVD included all deleted scenes. I can't get enough of this movie. It is GREAT!

Summary: Just a great movie
Review: I'm a basketball fan and I actually bought this movie
without expecting such a deep film. This is a movie
almost anybody should be able to enjoy. Why? It's
powerful, passionate, and believeable. The story is
about a boy and a girl went from hate to preteens to
becoming loving teenagers.

Sanaa Lathan is the young woman hoping to become the
first woman to play in the NBA. She faces heavy re-
sistantance from a mother that dislikes her tomboy
attitude and demeanor. The young Quincy is young guy
has alot to live up to considering his dad was a NBA
player for several years. After years of being friends,
Monica and Quincy become lovers after each suffer
failure in other relationships. The irony is that what
they have in common seems to be what starts to drive
them apart.

After a while Quincy starts a downhill slide after he
finds out that his father has been unfaithful to his
mother and their relationship is torn apart because
of the lies. Then as Monica starts to have sucess
with her basketball career she and Quincy start
to drift apart and breakup. Monica decides to leave
college to go play professional basketball in europe,
while Quincy continues his fall from grace by going
pro too soon and ends up being a 2nd round pick by
the Los Angeles Lakers. He then proceeds to tear his
ACL in a game.

Monica by this time is missing her former lover by the
time she sees this happen on the TV. She then decides
to come home hoping to spark and with Quincy only to
be shocked at the news that Quincy is getting married
to a stewardess(Tyra Banks)and from there her life seems
to go in limbo and she doesn't know where to go from
here.

Monica then decides that Quincy still loves her and
decide to win his love back by playing a game of one
on one. If Qunicy wins then Monica will buy him a
wedding present and wish him the best... However, if
She wins then it's because Quincy truely wanted her
to win. The ending is rather predictable, but it will
satisfy you nonetheless.

While this is a predictable movie, it still is a great
movie because of the fire and passion it brings. Sanaa
really pours her heart into this film as does everybody
else. It does the right things that prevent it from
being a typical cheesy chick flick. It has the ability
to make men and women alike feel for the characters and
hope they re-unite at the end.

It doesn't hurt that we get a non stereotypical movie by
african american actor/actresses. I would sugges this movie
for everyone.

Summary: Love & baseketball
Review: Love And Basketball was my all time favorite movie. It is not only a chic-flic but a movie that can relate to both sexes. This movie shows some real life situations that children face as they turn into young adults. When you see this movie you will see the difficult situations high school and college students are faced with everyday. Not only trying to fall in love with someone and devoting your life to them but also being an athlete and knowing right from wrong and doing what you believe is the right thing to do. Being an athlete I find this movie to be very true. When the main character Q is faced with choosing which college to go to he not only wants a great basketball team but he also wants to be with his girlfriend. He doesn't really know if his decision will be best for him but watching the movie you would be able to see what happens. Many athletes are injured while playing a sport. This movie goes through a process an injured player would have to go through in order to get yourself back into the game after a long period of time and try your best and know deep inside your heart that you can do it, you just have to be willing to give your time and devotion to that game. The movie is very touching and really makes you think of the real life problems that are thrown at you on a day to day basis. Nobody's life is perfect so you must learn to deal with anything that pops into your daily schedule. Being an athlete isn't an easy thing to do when it comes to college. So watching this movie and knowing that someone else is in the same position as you and they were able to get through and have a life afterwards and were very happy with the results helps me to know that I can do it and how hard I really have to work in order to get what I want out of life.

Summary: Love and Basketball
Review: Love and Basketball 2000, 127 min
New Line Cinema, Dir. Gina Prince-Bythwood
Main Actors: Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps

Love and Basketball is a unique drama and love story in that it displays how two people who think they can love the game of basketball so much, to only find out that their love each other outweighs any other love they have. Two young kids, Quincy (Q)and Monica met as neighbors in California and they both share the same love for basketball, and the desire to play in a professional league someday. Along the way, both characters face challenges and learning that it takes more than just a good shot to make it to the big league.

Q and Monica began their relationship as friends and denying any attraction to each other. Then they give in to something they always knew and continued a relationship since they would be attending the same college and both playing for the college basketball teams. Q knew his dreams of playing professional basketball wasn't far fetch, since his father was already playing in the league, but Monica had more to prove and was determined to do whatever it took to see her dreams through. As time went on, Q was needing more from Monica and their relationship and he didn't think Monica could provide or share her love for him and basketball, so he ended the relationship and they went their separate ways. Q dropped out of college just three years later and was injured his first year in the professional league. At this time, there was a such thing as a professional league for women, so Monica went overseas and played for a league for a couple of years later finding out that she missed her family and her feelings for basketball had changed. When Monica got the news that Q had been injured in a game, she went to visit him in the hospital, only to find out that he had moved on with his life completely and was now engaged to be married. Could this be the end?

Monica, if nothing else, had learned one thing from playing basketball all those years, you never give up on your dreams and she was determined to find out if Quincy's love for her was really gone and if she could have one more chance to prove to him that this time that she could give him the love he needed.

This film to was well very directed in that it was very realistic and if you love something enough, you should never let go. I think people of all ages can view this film and enjoy how all the drama turns out.

Review: This movie is great. I love the storyline. It is very real and not far fetched from reality. It is wonderful to see this type of love story, where there is no a great deal of sexual contact throughout the entire movie. It had a story which I appreciated. This movie is one of my favorites and one of the best. I am happy it did well for the director. Hopefully she will make more quality films of this nature, that I will own.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: A must see. I really enjoyed this film. I think Sanaa Latham &amp; Omar Epps are two actors who I hope will be around for years to come. This is a double love story. The love of the game of Basketball and just simply (being in love). They both gave stunning performances. Sanaa is not just another pretty face in Hollywood. She is a terrific actress. I personally know Omar Epps Mother (She is the Principal at a Elementary School in New York). She said, her Son could act& I must agree with her. Excellent Movie I could watch over and over again. I makes you feel all fuzzy inside.
