Rating: Summary: Excellent movie Review: This movie has it all. It does not play just one sex because both sexes continue to upstage the other. From the very beginning it is hard to tell who is the puppet and who is themaster. I highly recommend this movie. One of the a few good movies made this year.
Rating: Summary: "Are you in... or are you out?" Review: Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Katherine, an evil, manipulative stepsister of Sebastian, played by Ryan Phillipe who convinces Sebastian to deflower her old boyfriend Court's new girlfriend, an innocent, naive Cecila played by Selma Blair. Sebastian finds a greater challengein the pure, faithful Annette, the new school headmaster's daughter played by Reese Witherspoon. This is an excellent movie with a great plot and suberb acting, espeacilly by Sarah Michelle Gellar. The ending is a different twist to the movie, but it is perfect in everyway and the best ending to a movie I've ever seen. If you have not seen this movie yet, buy it.
Rating: Summary: Cruel Intenions Review: This remake is very good. Gellar, Phillippe and Witherspoon are great actors and the ending is sad. Very enjoyable movie.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies ever made! Review: I've seen this movie several times, and it's one of those flicks I can never get enough of. Now, this isn't a film for everyone, it deserves it's R rating fully and is indeed quite sexual. However, there's no real nudity and the scenes aren't nearly as graphic as one might expect. This movie tells the story of wealthy step-siblings Kathryn Merteuil(Sarah Michelle Gellar, in a throughly convincing performance) and Sebastian Valmont(Ryan Phillipe, in a performance even better than Sarah's). Kathryn is the popular(and secretly evil and extremely manipulative), role model of a class president while Sebastian is the school bad boy whom parents warn their straight-laced daughters to stay away from. Anyway, Kathryn is dumped for the incredibly naive but nice virgin Cecile(Selma Blair), whose mother wants her to befriend Kathryn. Kathryn wants Sebastian to seduce Cecile, a mission he initially declines. Instead, he vows to deflower the new headmaster's well-moraled, brainy daughter Annette(Reese Witherspoon). He thinks getting the girl into bed will be a piece of cake, but the fine line between love and lust blurs and things get more complicated then he could've ever imagined. I won't reveal how this amusing and provocotive film ends, but believe me, it's not totally what you might expect!
Rating: Summary: I've seen it a few times Review: Warning, this isn't going to be the resoundingly favorable review that a lot of the posters have given. Its also not going to be a really horrible review. I've seen this movie a few times, out of curiousity because a lot of my friends enjoyed it. I consider Milos Forman's adaptation of Dangerous Liasons to be the best one. This is a fair movie. Your life isn't going to change from watching it, but it will not be two hours wasted. It was interesting to see how the director handled the Dangerous Liasons story elements. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays the sort of person everyone loves to hate. Reese Witherspoon plays a sympathetic sort of character, who you end up cheering for. Ryan Phillipe is nice to look at and does an ok job of playing the casanova. My favorite parts of the movie are when Ryan and Reece are in the car and Reece starts making faces at him. She tells him he takes himself too seriously and she is exactly right. My other favorite is when Reece finally gives in to Ryan and they fall in love. Ryan's character stops being a caricature and starts being a real person. Rent or buy this film if you want a nice two hours spent in a world only Hollywood could invent and don't want anything too serious.
Rating: Summary: "Cruel Intentions" isn't as cruel as the title suggests... Review: "Cruel Intentions" is without a doubt one of the best movies of 1999. The characters of Sebastian and Kathryn are very sexy and manipulative, and it seems that throughout the movie they have everyone in their circle of friends and foes on very short leashes. The story is simple: In an attempt of soiling, (yes I wrote 'soiling') the reputation of her ex boyfriend's new steady, (Blair), Kathryn, (Gellar), calls upon her sex driven step brother Sebastian, (Phillipe) to seduce her, thus tainting her name. However Sebastian has grown weary of sleeping with the same type of women, and opts for a challenge: seducing the new headmaster's virgin daughter Annette, (Witherspoon). Kathryn makes a bet with him, telling him he has no chance of success. If he succeeds, he can sleep with her, if he loses, she gets his car. Deciding to take his sister up on her bet he seeks out Annette, and just for fun, he does what he sister asks of Cecile. The one thing that really stands out in this movie is the soundtrack, it's awesome. Perfect songs at the perfect time, helping set the scene's mood. The supporting characters are very good too. Joshua Jackson as Blaine is almost as cunning as Sebastian in his scenes, and the pure innocence of Selma Blair's Cecile is cute. The subtle humor in the movie also makes it a winner. A movie definately worth buying.
Rating: Summary: Brings bad to a new low Review: Soap opera for 6th graders, to call this movie bad would be an insult to bad movies. This is clearly made for teens who really, really, really, wish they were cool. Here's a hint: if you are watching [stuff] like this you are not cool. The cool people are out doing stuff while you sit in front of your TV watching Dawson's Creek and wondering why you are getting heavier.
Rating: Summary: Manipulation 101 Review: My skepticism was put aside on this one.I admit I saw "Not Another Teen Movie" first, and Amazon said I would like it.It's a great film with incredible dialogue, surprise ending, and well done acting. The plot is over 110 years old-but putting the 90's spin on it with these performers...I consider this "War of the Roses .5" Do not skip this for the teen demographic-this is a very good film.Anything more would be spoiling-BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: OK,...but not great.... Review: I am a big Sarah Michelle Gellar fan, and I am obsessed with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", so naturally I would have to see this movie. I thought that it had a good cast, ok plot, and managed to tie in some funny gags. However, I think the film tried to hard with the whole revenge theme. It's ok to see this movie once or twice, but it's not worth buying.
Rating: Summary: Excellently Crafted Review: Cruel Intentions portrays a tale of seduction, betrayal, selfishness, and love in an excellently crafted manner that will leave you breathless after the film is completely over. One thing that should also be noted about this film, is that it also supports a top notch cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is my favorite actress, plays the selfish self-absorbed Kathyrn with great grace and talent. This character is a complete opposite from her television character Buffy Summers, and Gellar manages to play it off extremely well and convincingly. Ryan Phillipe plays the sex-driven scheming Sebastian who begins to fall in love with the sweet and charming Anette, played by Reese Witherspoon, who is supposed to be the target of his bet placed with Kathyrn. Selma Blair and Joshua Jackson also co-star in this well written, superbly directed film. The DVD contains whopping extras such as music videos, trailers, featurettes, commentaries, and deleted scenes. I highly recommend this film for anyone's DVD collection because it contains something interesting for just about everyone.
