Rating: Summary: Cruel Intentions...1999's Guilty Pleasure Review: Cruel Intentions changed the drama category a lot. For the way times have changed for the 21st century. Sarah Michelle Gellar is as cruel as they get, while Reese Witherspoon is short and sweet. As for Ryan Phillippe, well he showed his behind as usual. The movie is a great erotic thriller, as you would expect. But don't be surprised to see a twist here or there, as they are known to happen.

Rating: Summary: Delightfully wicked Review: I will get right to the point. This is my favorite movie of all time. It has everything including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, my favorite actor and actress. It also has a perfect soundtrack. The songs actually liven the mood of whatever scene they are featured in, unlike some other films out there. The sets are amazing too, really breathtaking. Kathryn's room is done is ice blue, because that is what she is...cold. Sebastian's is rich gold and brown, because he has that soft inner side to him which eventually does come out in the movie when he falls in love with Annette. I won't bore you with the details or what the movie is about, because every other review has done that already. All I can say is that this movie is perfect, because it has an original plot & it's a modern telling of an alltime classic novel. You couldn't ask for a more talented cast including the wonderful Reese Witherspoon and newcomer Selma Blair. This is a movie that once you watch, you want to watch it over and over again. There's something new each time you watch it. The DVD is amazing also. It has TONS of special features including commentary, deleted scenes, information on the set design which is very interesting and informative, interviews with the cast and crew, two wonderful music videos and of course the theatrical trailer. A wonderful DVD for an amazing movie. The ending is wonderful also. Unlike some movies, you can't predict what will happen.
Rating: Summary: Some impressive evil nullified by a bad ending Review: Cruel Intentions should be an amazing film: it features an awarding-winning cast; creates a vivid world of wealthy, degenerate excess; keeps one's attention riveted to the screen; and boasts an especially deliciously evil performance by Sarah Michelle Gellar. What it does not feature is a well-developed plot that "works." It is difficult to comment on this movie without discussing the ending and my negative reaction to it, but here is a rundown from my perspective. Cruel Intentions is yet another adaptation of Choderlos De Lachos' novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, only this time the story has been adapted to a more modern and supposedly hip setting. Ryan Phillippe plays Sebastian Valmont, the worst kind of rich kid whose only hobby or vocation is corrupting innocent girls. He is now preparing to face his biggest challenge in the form of Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), a paragon of purity who has recently penned an article in a major magazine about why she plans to remain a virgin until she is married. Sebastian's brilliantly wicked step-sister Kathryn Merteuil (Gellar) makes him an offer he can't refuse: if he strikes out with innocent little Amanda, she gets his car; if he adds Amanda to his list of conquests, she will allow him to make her yet another conquest. And so it begins. There are a couple of running subplots about a ridiculously silly girl named Cecile (Selma Blair), but these do little to distract you from the central plot. Sebastian is a disgusting individual, but he knows how to charm a female. Annette can read him like a book, yet for no discernible reason whatsoever her feelings toward Sebastian begin to change. Obviously and most predictably, his feelings toward Annette also grow into something real. All this time, Kathryn is watching and waiting, maintaining her public persona of sweetness and respect while evil thrives and roils within her pretty little head. The ending simply does not work for me. It requires me to adjust my own thought patterns about everything in the movie without offering me any decent reason why I should do so. Redemption does not have a place in any of the characters of this movie, and that is all I'll say. The deleted scenes on the DVD are among the most important deleted scenes I've ever seen. In explaining why the six featured deletions were made, the director invariably talks about how the scene would have changed the viewer's mindset at the end; basically, if these deletions had been included in the movie, the ending would not have worked. It is true that these deleted scenes would have sabotaged the desired perception of the ending, but I say that the ending still does not work. About the only thing the deletions accomplish is to make a couple of statements problematic owing to the fact that references are made to scenes the audience does not get to see. In my opinion, the director unknowingly deleted part of the central story, and the fact that he did not recognize this as such explains why the ending comes crashing down like a ton of bricks. Gellar's eye-opening performance does much to salvage the film to some degree. Rest assured, her character Kathryn is no Buffy clone. She is absolutely ruthless, ingeniously underhanded, and a master at hiding her dark side from the people she knows (aside from her step-brother, of course). Daytime soap opera stalwarts can't compete with Kathryn in the evil witch department; if J.R. Ewing had had a daughter, it would have been Kathryn - she is just that good at being bad. In the end, though, all the fun I had watching Kathryn was cancelled out by a most unsatisfactory and seemingly rushed ending.
Rating: Summary: "You will be discreet about this...?" Review: Cruel Intentions has been slammed by critics, who have unfairly and unfavourably compared it with 1989's Dangerous Liaisons (both films stem from Choderlos de Laclos's novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses). Whereas Dangerous Liaisons is fairly faithful to the original, Cruel Intentions manipulates the plot - throwing a twist in the tail - and relocates the milieu from 18th century France to the present-day Upper East Side of New York, where underneath the veneer of respectability, wealthy teenagers plot each other's downfalls. Stepsiblings Kathryn Merteuil and Sebastian Valmont are two such teenagers. They amuse themselves by arranging reputation-destroying paybacks for those who have wronged them, and make wagers on the outcome. The focus of the movie is Sebastian's attempt to make a conquest of the Headmaster's virginal daughter, Annette (who, in a heavy-handed attempt at symbolism, wears white throughout almost the entire film). However, the movie certainly has some memorable high points, beginning at the very outset where the camera swoops fast and low over what appears to be a grassy park studded with rocks; only after the camera angles away does the viewer realise - with some discomfort - that the park is in fact a graveyard. The opening scenes also introduce the appealing and well-judged soundtrack, which includes artists as diverse as Placebo and Fatboy Slim. The Verve's song, Bittersweet Symphony, is an absolutely perfect 'just desserts' track at the film's conclusion. These kids are incredibly nasty and vindictive, but owing to the verbosity of the script and the almost total lack of adult chaperones appearing on screen, it is difficult at times to remember that they are only teenagers. In the end though, perhaps we just like to see someone be very, very wicked and almost get away with it.
Rating: Summary: I was really curious about what was in that ... diary... Rating: Summary: They're Old Enough To Know Better... ...And To Young To Care Review: A classic story born of Choderlos De Lasclos' timless novel "Les Liaisons Dangeroues" (1782) which in 1988 became Stephen Frears "Dangerous Liasons" is now a contemerary movie "Creul Intentions" set in highschool. This simple idea is asking for so much trouble but this movie was is amazing... and watching it for the 14th time I am still reminding myself how much I love this movie. Set in modern times the buildings, seanery and costumes had a beautiful Victoran times feel. Which alows people from all walks of life to enjoy it. Although I'm still trying to figue out how the girl-kissing-girl scene benifited the plot at all I just can't not like this movie.
Rating: Summary: Sexy and Seductive Review: This is a fantastic film. First I would like to talk about the main actors and actresses. Sarha Michelle Gellar - She portrades her character fantastically. When you are watching this film you feel like she is the actual character. She plays Kathryn, the rich, drug taking, who always gets what she wants. Ryan Phillipe, - He plays Kathryn's step brother who is also very rich and spoiled. He did a good job starring this character, because it¡¯s not the easy character. He deals with the script well and acts very natural. Reese Witherspoon, She plays Anette the innocent virgin who doesn¡¯t know about Sabastian and Kathryn's bet. Reese is one of my favorite actresses and I think she is fantastic in every movie. She just seems natural in every situation. She¡¯s not that pretty though. Storyline - Sebastian is a women eating man and he sees the article by Anette about why she remains virgin and how she is going to stay that way, Kathryn makes a bet with him that if he sleeps with Anette then he can sleep with Kathryn who he has wanted since their parents got married. But if he can¡¯t sleep with Anette then she gets his classic car. The whole movie is about the bet, but I am not going to tell you the ending. You will have to buy it and find out!!
Rating: Summary: all messed up Review: This movie is definitly crazy not to mention completly random.I was shocked the first time i watched this movie. The bluntness and everything was hysterical, thats what i love most about the movie. All the characters are funny and unique and you will be either loving them or hating them by the end.Definitly a good watch for the younger population and those who are not easily offended.:)
Rating: Summary: Deviously enjoyable Review: I'm not one for the 90210/Dawson's Creek/Doogie Howser/whatever stupid rich teen TV show crowd. I despise all those kinds of shows and wouldn't waste a second of my ever-shortening lifespan concerning myself with the make-believe problems of a bunch of spoiled 40 year olds posing as high school seniors. But that's not to say a director with a bit more insight and taste can't take those misguided overgrown teen cutouts and make a decent piece of entertainment. Such is the case with "Cruel Intentions". Undeservingly privledged Sebastian plays a Manhattan player who's found his ultimate challenge...to deflower a holier-than-thou virgin (Annette) who's publicly proclaimed her desire to wait for marriage. Used to talking his way into womens' pants on a regular basis, he accepts a bet from his blow-snorting step-sister Kathryn that he'll be able to easily seduce and conquer Annette. As predicable plots dictate, this proves to be tougher than Sebastian anticipated, and he of course falls head over heels for her. By the time they have sex, he's madly in love with her. Kathryn, jealous that Sebastian's attention is no longer focused on her, breaks up the relationship with taunts and mockery heaped upon Sebastian's ego that he is hopelessly "whipped". Well, it goes back and forth and ends with a somewhat goofy ending in which Annette runs up and down the aisles of a church passing out copies of a Sebastian's diary during a self-righteous eulogy given by Kathryn at his funeral. For some reason, everyone ditches the funeral to go outside and read it. Other than that though, I thouroughly enjoyed the movie. It fulfilled it's purpose, which is entertainment, and the soundtrack is excellent. I particularly liked Adam Duritz's "Colorblind", which was written in one day at the request of the director after the Smashing Pumpkins failed to deliver a promised song for the soundtrack. Good movie, especially for the younger crowd.
