Rating: Summary: A Different Teen Movie Review: Cruel Intentions shied away from the usual setting of a stereotypical high school setting, and put us in the middle of Upper Class New York. We are introduced to Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian (Ryan Phillipe) who are spoiled and manipulative people who couldn't care less about anyone. Kathryn bets Sebastian that he can't seduce virgin Annette (Reese Witherspoon) into losing her virginity, and as a side task, she also wants him to ruin Cecile's (Selma Blair) life because she stole Kathryn's boyfriend. Oh the woe. Sebastian takes up both of these offers, and works at both of them. But unexpectedly, falls in love with Annette, and now must fight an emotional war. Cruel Intentions could be seen as a distasteful movie, but it really isn't. It's full of talented people, and the direction is quiet brilliant. Sarah Michelle Gellar steps out of her usual goody goody roles and steps into the shoes of Kathryn Merteiul, a crack snorting, sex addicted manipulator who gets joy out of ruining people's lives. And she does it well. Her given facial expressions really gave depth to the character. Sarah is a wonderful actress (Yes, she's my favorite). Ryan Phillipe did well as the snooty Sebastian Valmont, and completed the change his character went through with great ease. Reese Witherspoon was perfect for her role as Annette Hargrove. Her face cried "Innocence," and Selma Blair was hilarious as Cecile. The remaining cast - Sean Patrick Thomas, Christine Baranski, Eric Mabius, Joshua Jackson - all did well in their roles. Roger Krumble's direction is great. The sets were beautiful, and I also found myself paying attention to some of the camera work, which was awesome. The Special Edition DVD has some notable features on it. The two featurettes (One on the movie and another focusing on the set designs) were interesting and are filled with cast and crew interviews. The commentary with director Roger Krumble was interesting, although it dulled sometimes. The highlight of the disc are the 6 deleted scenes. Each scene is introduced by Roger Krumble. He explains the scenes and gives the reason why there were taken out of the movie. Also included are two music videos and the theatrical trailer. Cruel Intentions is a nicely sculpted drama with a great cast. Definitely worth the watch.
Rating: Summary: One of the Worst Ever Made.... Review: Ok, didn't ANYONE ELSE think this movie was terrible???? I thought it was plain awful! Now, I know this movie came out quite some time ago, however, my best friend, who is in the Navy, bought it oversees and when she came home we watched it (the second time for her, first for me). She loved it. I HATED it. First off is the basis of the plot. I was under the impression that "Les Liasons Dangereux" was for a more mature audience - for adults (b/c it cast adult actors, like Close and Malkovich). I mean, the whole plot is about who's sleeping with who, right? So why would ANYONE adapt it for teenagers?!?!? For a society that says "what's wrong with our teens?" I can tell you why - it's because they are watching ...like this! I definitely would NOT recommend this movie for anyone under the age of 18. Second of all, and I know this is a petty reason, but what's the deal with Ryan Philip or whatever the heck his name is? I can't believe people think he's cute! I had never heard of him before sitting down to watch this with my friend and she says, "oh he is so cute! You will love him!" And I was all excited b/c I thought a total babe was going to be in it. What a letdown! He looks like he's 4! I don't understand why all the girls think he is so cute. He is just ordinary looking to me. Not even that - I don't find him attractive at ALL. Plus, he can't even act all that well. His voice alone drives me nuts! It's too emotional - his voice sounds like he's 24, yet he looks like he's 4! Sara Michelle Gellar plays a tramp - yea, what a great role model for our teenagers. Tell your stepbrother you'll make a bet with him - if he sleeps with this one girl, then he can sleep with her?! That's pretty sick if you ask me! In spite of all this, there is ONE bright spot in the movie and that is Selma Blair. She is about the only one in the movie who can actually ACT. She is down right funny! (Except for THE scene with Gellar - yet another REALLY bad scene for our teenagers). And even though she is good, it's not enough to save this movie. That would take a miracle. I hope she moves on with her career after this stinker of a movie.
Rating: Summary: Splendid!!!!!!!! Review: This is one of my favorite movies. I think Sarah, Reese, Selma, and Ryan rocked the screen. I watched "Dangerous Liasons" with veteren actors John Malkovich, Michelle Pfieffer, and Glen Close. I must say that this movie really isn't all that different from that, they just gave it at modern day twist, and put a few teenagers but, still basically the same tale.
Rating: Summary: An Epic Tale with an Epic Resolution Review: When I first saw Cruel Intentions last month I didn't expect anything special, and I was treated too an incredible shock. This movie tells an epic tale with an epic soundtrack to follow. The acting was just unbelievable, and the plot left me utterly speachless. The writers must have had a gigantic thesaurus around while they were writing the plot, because it was just incredible. The soundtrack was one of the best I have ever seen, and fit the movie like a glove. The ending was one of the best I have ever witnessed. The song that ends the movie and wraps up the plot {Bittersweet Simphany} is one of my favorite songs and this movie is one of my favorite movies. If you are thinking of seeing this movie, run to the movie store and get it, you will be pleasantly surprised and a bit shocked of how great this movie actually is.
Rating: Summary: Surely a desert island DVD! Review: Dangerous Liasons meets 90210. This disc would be worth the price for the Gellar/Blair kiss scene alone, but believe it or not, the rest of the movie will capture even the shortest attention span. Talented cast, sparky dialog and a killer soundtrack.
Rating: Summary: Well, I'm in love. Review: I love this movie. I may be only 14 or so, but I saw the movie in the movie theatres(I'm a naughty girl Ô.Ô) and absolutely fell in love. I reccomend the movie to anyone who wants to see a Manhattan soap opera on a high school level. The language used was far beyond most "high schoolers" reach and I was quite impressed. I have shown most of my friends, and they all fell in love. Who couldn't remember the "escalator scene"? The one where Annette is riding the escalator and sees Sebastian at the top. Pure true blue romance. I don't know what else to say. Watch the movie, and if you get grossed out, don't stop watching it. It's like Little Boy Blue (with Ryan Phillipee also), you can't stop watching it, otherwise you'll miss out on what's really there.
Rating: Summary: Cute little movie about kids behaving like kids Review: A cute film loosly based upon dangerous liasons but with a younger cast. The story revolves around the attempt of a brother and sister ( not blood related ) to take revenge and satisfy their libidos. Sebastian ( played by Ryan Rhillippe trying to immitate the understated style of Malchovitch ) is a young man trying to seduce a young woman on a bet with his sex kitten sister Katherine (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar). The stakes are his great car against her great body. To make it a challenge one of objects of the seduction has just written an artical on why she plans to wait (Reese Witherspoon playing Annette in defiance of the axiom that those who blather about waiting are those no one would want to sleep with anyway) the other is a true innocent that Katherine's boyfreind dumped her for ( unlikely ) and thus her de-flowering is an act of revenge. Most of what happens is predictable, the innocent becomes a bit of a tart as soon as she has a taste of the apple and Annette (who made herself a target with her essay) is ready to give it up as soon as a handsom man shows interest..... Overall, it was a fun little nostalgia trip.
Rating: Summary: A twisted movie but quite enjoyable! Review: This movie is an adaptation of the novel "Les Liasons Dangereuse" (Dangerous Liasons). Some may find this as a movie featuring today's young stars with Buffy's Gellar (Katherine) and young star Ryan Phillippe (Sebastian) and I think that's what makes this movie so appealing. Yes, it's a bit twisted and over-the-top but it's entertaining to see a mega playboy who likes to have sex with girls and leave them and an ice queen who is just plainly a Queen B go against each other in a challenge for Sebastian's car or for Sebastian to do his step-sister, the only girl he can't have. Interesting concept, interesting story. Also, the other side characters are really fun to watch. First, hats of to Roger Kumble for fighting for his film crew and also believing in his movie. That's important. Second, the DVD features really cool video (they got a talented cinematographer to work on this Indie->go popular film) and audio was assisted by the cool music throughout this movie. As for special features, the two featurettes were very cool. Learning about how clothing and colors were important to this movie was interesting to watch. The deleted scenes were best kept cut. The main premise of this movie is to watch a young, sex crazy guy with no care in the world but for himself goes from being a punk to a guy who finally falls in love and cares for the girl that he's betting on. An interesting movie and a good DVD.
Rating: Summary: Cruel Intention rocks, love it! Review: Cruel intention is one of the best movies i have ever seen, it's exciting, sexy and totally wonderful! It has it all. The actors and actresses are fantastic, and the storie and lines the same. I have nothing bad to say about it. Sebastian and Kathryn are a perfect team, loving to do bad things. Anette is the girl Sebastian has fall in love with, and Kathryn wants to get revange on her boyfriend who dumped her and decides to do it on Cecile. It all have a exciting and "sad" end. Buy it, i don't think that you will regret it!
Rating: Summary: The Real Deal Review: Cruel Intentions is a good movie! That's why I gave it 5 stars... If you want to watch a movie filled with deceit and twisted plots, this is the one for you. Ryan Phillippe plays Sebastian. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Kathryn, Sebastian's stepsister and love interest. Sebastian derives pleasure out of others' misery. Every girl that he comes in contact with is a conquest for him. He tries to get them in bed with him and will feed these girls any line needed to achieve his goal. Kathryn is a "psycho-bulimic-head case" as described by her ex boyfriend. Kathryn has a hard time dealing w/ rejection and wants to get back at anyone who does anything to her, nice or otherwise. Kathryn and Sebastian have their fun with flirting and foreplay until Sebastian wants a real challenge and finds out about Annette (played by Reese Witherspoon), a virgin from Kansas. Annette has recently written a manifesto on why she plans to wait..Sebastian doesn't like that and plans to prove her manifesto wrong. I'm not going to give away anything else about Katryn, Sebastain, Annette, or the others, such as Cecille and Ronald. This movie is my favorite. Watch it, and you will find out why.
