Summary: 5 Star DVD Commentary
Review: Read the reviews of others to find out about the movie itself, which I found simultaneoulsy gripping and humorous, albeit flawed. What I found absolutely outstanding was the commentary by writer Bruce Joel Rubin and director Jerry Zucker, especially the former. Rubin begins by telling us a little of his personal history and how it led to the creation of this script. He traveled East, spent time in a Tibetan monestary studying mysticim, and came back to San Francisco in the Summer of Love. It was then another ten years before he got his break in Hollywood. I gained great respect for Rubin and his metaphysics, which I agree makes the movie more than just another "ghost" genre love story. He's right when he says that the typical antics one finds in the ghost genre, where things like objects flying across a room in front of stunned mortals, are reserved only for the end. They cap the movie, not form its substance. He talks how his Whoopie Goldberg character was at first not a charlatan but a genuine psychic. When he showed the script to some friends they laughed. This triggered in him the realization that there was great comedic tension caused by making her a charlatan who becomes genuine only when she finds haunted by Sam. The essence of the story, Rubin says, is the idea of a person caught between two worlds, denizen of neither, but needing to come to grips with the past so he can move into the future (unlike the other ghost in the movie, the "train ghost," who never learns the lessons necessary to move on). It's also about a man learning to say, "I love you," to his significant other, as well as the value of life in general. Rubin really hits the nail on the head with these points and other in his commentary. I think it's something I can listen to several times, and then periodically and gain something new each time.

Summary: Pure treacle
Review: This is an embarrassing movie. The plot is hackneyed, one big cliche after another. The acting just insipid.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a fairly romantic guy. This movie doesn't do it It's just dreadful. Somebody, please, make Patrick Swayze go away.
If you want to see a great romantic movie that features lost lovers returning from the grave to comfort and aid their enamoratta, check out the contemporaneous British film "Truly, Madly, Deeply."

Summary: Great story!!
Review: Sam (Patrick Swayze) is murdered by a mugger hired by his best friend. Sam uses a meduim (Whoopi Golberg) to warn his partner Molly (Demi Moore) that she is in danger. Sam uses the meduim to get money that his 'friend' had embezelled and was to use for payment of drugs transferred into another account. Sam then uses his ghostly skills to gain revenge on both the hitman and his friend, both are killed. Before leaving forever, Sam and Molly are briefly re-united.

Summary: An Endearing Classic.
Review: Aside from Ms. Moore's exceptional work in Indecent Proposal, she brings another inspiring, sad, and touching movie to life. A simple robbery turned murder portray's an all-too-real and frightening observance of life torn away too early. A sensational, yet convincing and moving film. If you cried the first time, you will again, and yes, Ghost will touch the sensitive bone of the male thick-skinned ego. Ghost has everything for everyone. For the men, a plot thick with deceit and revelations, and an immortal hero tied to this world with unfinished business. Whoopi Goldberg puts on a comedic performance which keeps the weight of the story balanced. For women, Demi's character will ask them to place themselves in her shoes and to feel the pain and struggle with loss. One of the great mixtures in hope, loss, life-after-death, and the deception that can lie in our closest of friends. A film not to be missed...

Summary: Corporate Movie Making At Its Most Predictable
Review: GHOST harkens back to films of the 1940s and 1950s which mixed screwball comedy, romance, and suspense with a ghost story. And GHOST reads exactly like a cross between TOPPER RETURNS and A GUY NAMED JOE: Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is murdered--but his spirit remains earthbound, seeking to uncover his own killer and re-establish contact with his beloved and grieving Molly (Demi Moore.) Eventually Sam manages to establish contact with a fraudulent medium named Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg)--and in exchange for helping her out in the spiritualist business he convinces her to act as his agent on the earthly plane. All of this sounds fine in theory, but GHOST plays like something created by corporate marketing men, and instead of a fantasy confection the film serves up something more akin to a three month old poundcake awash in slobbering sentimentality. The cast makes absolutely no attempt to create characters--but given the zero-quality script level you can hardly blame them; the story itself is extremely predictable, and if you don't know who killed Sam halfway through the film you need to run out for quick brain-scan; and everything from cinematography to editing to design is just as ho-hum as it can be. The only reason to watch this film is for Whoopi Goldberg, who is absolutely hilarious as Oda Mae Brown--but frankly even Goldberg's comic turn can't make this turkey fly, and if you want to see her at her comic best I'd recommend you catch some of her stand-up work. My recommendation? Hunt down a copy of TOPPER RETURNS and A GUY NAMED JOE and watch the originals instead. Two stars only--and both of them for Goldberg alone. --GFT (Amazon.com Reviewer)--

Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Patrick Swayze all do an excellent job in portraying their respective characters. Wonderful movie for almost anyone (especially with the Holidays coming so soon!!!!).

Summary: Ghost -Wonderful Movie
Review: I had seen GHOST originally in a movie theater and shortly after I bought it for my private collection. The movie works very well as a love story, thriller and comedy, especially with Ms. Goldberg playing the medium. Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze are just fine as the romantic leads although Ms. Moore does tend to downplay quite a bit. Mr. Swayze is handsome and energic as the leading man (must be his dancing background). The plot is good and quite different. I have to say, though, that Ms. Goldberg's
appearance and her funny, funny turn as the medium really made the film enjoyable for me. She deserved her Oscar!

Summary: A love story from beyond
Review: What's not to love about "Ghost"? In my opinion one of the greatest love stories of all time. Patrick Swayze's Sam is killed one night and he is "trapped" between worlds as he tries to figure out who and why. Whoppie Golgberg steals the show as Otta Mae, the role that she rightly won her Oscar for. The effects are kind of dated but who cares? A good one to own.

Summary: Incredible film in every way!
Review: I first viewed this film about 10 years ago when it first came out. Loved it then and love it even more now. This is darn near a perfect film for me as it contains drama, action, love, humor, and a great soundtrack to boot, all in one film! I couldn't believe the feelings I had as I was watching this film recently. If you haven't seen this, rent it immediately as I guarantee it will be the best 127 minutes spent in front of a TV as you can imagine.
