Summary: awesome cast!
Review: I think Les Miz in concert was remakable! The cast were awesome! Each character were portrayed nicely and each cast member had great interpretations. Colm Wilkinson was so awesome and he seems to be VALJEAN himself! Ruthie Henshall's Fantine was also remarkable... so full of emotions. Michael Ball was marvelous as Marius and for me, he is the ideal Marius. He has such an awesome voice that gives me the chills.
Although not everybody liked Lea Salonga's interepretation of Eponine, I still think she was wonderful. I think it's good that she was able to interpret the character differently. I also enjoy Frances Rufelle's portrayal of Eponine, but Lea's performance cannot be ignored. Hannah Chick as little Cossette was so sweet and I admire her for not getting distracted by a sudden noise in the middle of the song and mood. It shows how good of an actress she is at a very young age! I could go on, but as a wrap up, the cast was definitely awesome and this is a must-see and must-have collection!

Summary: Vive Les Miz!
Review: This DVD will have you cheering and applauding in your living room. Stellar performances by all, and what exquisite pleasure to see and hear Colm Wilkinson as Valjean. I had never heard Lea Salonga in the role of Eponine (I had the fortune to see her in London in Miss Saigon) and although it may have been unfair to bill her as the definitive Eponine since she was a late-comer to the part, I enjoyed her performance in the concert. Sound and picture quality of the DVD is excellent.

Les Miserables is up there with West Side Story, My Fair Lady, and Man of la Mancha as one of the greatest musicals ever. It's better, I think, than Phantom of the Opera, which suffers a bit from mediocre lyrics.

Summary: pretty good except for one thing..
Review: lea salonga (stinks). okay. she doesn't (stink). but she is NOT A GOOD EPONINE. erghhh she hits every note perfectly... alright. but is eponine a perfect character..? no! and what is up with her sounding all (angry)? what was that? eponine isn't (an angry) character. if she was (angry) then why would she deliver letters for marius, go back to him on the barracade, etc. her voice just doesn't "fit" the character. she was an awesome kim from miss saigon. but not that good of an eponine. and why does she over-enunciate in on my own? it kills the song (eg: "him and me for-EVER and fo-REVER") blah. and then it seems like in a little fall of rain she forgot she is supposed to be dying and belts the first 1/2 of the song. then she realizes she is supposed to be dying and over-compensates by doing this weird whisper-sing thing. frances rufelle is 200 times better!!! her voice is beautiful, and so is her portrayl of eponine. besides the eponine, the TAC is good! but really. lea needs to stay away from that charcter...

Summary: Better than the VHS version!
Review: If you haven't already seen this 'concert' version of Les Mis, and you're a fan, you'll need to get this DVD.

Included are:

- An interesting timeline of Victor Hugo
- Pictures and backgrounds of all the major performers
- A great version of "Do you hear the people sing" by some of the many international Jean Valjeans
- LYRICS! Yes, you can 'choose' to see lyrics and sing along! (By far the best part!)

This is, of course, not like the Broadway version but a once in a lifetime chance to see some of the best performers who have done Les Mis including many of the original cast. With only their voices and costumes (and virtually NO props like on the broadway version) you'll gain true admiration for their work!

If you've never heard of Les Mis...get his DVD...watch it...then be hooked for life!

Summary: Simply the Best!
Review: I bought the DVD and CD of this show one year ago and have been enjoying them all along. The one-night-only performance of the greatest musical ever made, this show, no doubt, gathered the strongest cast and gave the most amazing performance of the this musical. I love every piece of music in it, I like every actor/actress in the show.

Nothing could be said enough about this show, I just want to say a few words about the characters and the actors/actresses I appreciate the most:

Colm Wilkinson, boy, who can't say he is not Jean Valjean? The look, the figure, the voice, everything of him makes him the perfect Valjean.

Philip Quast, the most convincing Javert. With a voice like that he easily tasks the most complicated character in the show.

Michael Ball, the only and the definitive Marius! He has a voice that you'll get addicted to. I have heard him singing "Empty Chairs, Empty Tables" on many occasions, believe me, he delivers the best, the perfect, the most amazing one on this show.

Lea Salonga, the best Eponine. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Her voice might be too perfect for Eponine, but I just can't help but loving this voice singing "On My Own". And the duet of Lea Salonga and Michael Ball, "A Little Fall Of Rain", is a song that'll make you cry.

Michael Maguire as Enjolras would be perfect if only he could reach his high note a little more easily, but still he has a strong voice and a perfect image for character Enjolras.

Judy Kuhn, the best Cosette so far. Generally people don't care for Cosette as much as for Eponine simply because that character Cosette lacks of splendor in the show. But it can't deny the fact that Judy Kuhn does have a fine soprano's voice and if you have listened to other recordings you'll know Judy Kuhn gives the best performance.

Anthony Crivello as Grantaire, even though he does not sing a lot in the show, he definitely shines in the songs "Sing with me" and "ABC Café".

This is a must for every Les Miserables fan. Even if you are not yet familiar with this show or you are still wondering which recording to choose, please try this one. This might be the show that will touch your soul and you'll never be the same. I don't know about anyone else, but I know such magic did happen to me.

Summary: Top Notch Performance
Review: This is not quite like the staged show, but it's still excellent. Since it's a concert, there're no real sets that the actors interact with, only the barricade that we see once in a while. The entire cast is amazing and the orchastra has to be heard to be believed. If you love Les Mis or musicals in general, then this video is a must have. It's a brilliant version of a brilliant show

Summary: A Magnificent Concert !
Review: There are so many reviews on Les Miserables In Concert that the only I can do is just to say that I agree with all the reviwers. I just cannot understand why the DVD version is shorter than the VHS. Some people also say that the VHS version has a better quality than the DVD. I have seen the DVD and I enjoyed it. Now I am also buying the VHS just because the additional 26 minutes. I will of course check the quality.

Summary: An almost perfect viewing experience!
Review: I have watched this concert on laser disc and on VHS tape and have always marvelled at the brilliant performances of its dream cast and the show's wonderful songs. That is why I decided to get the DVD to have better video and audio quality. Well, the picture quality is definitely better than its laser disc/VHS counterpart, but I was a bit disappointed at the audio quality. The sound is weak on DVD as I have to adjust my volume control to almost maximum level to really appreciate the sound. Also, it would have been a lot better if the audio had been on 5.1 digital instead of just stereo. A DTS version would have been perfect. For what better way to appreciate a good musical than by having excellent audio quality.

Summary: BREATHTAKING
Review: After growing up with nothing but an athletic background, Les Miserables was the first musical I had ever attended. After seeing the 10th Anniversary in London, I was awed to the point that I wanted the spectical to last forever. As soon as my family and I returned to the States, we watched the Broadway version and re-lived the experience all over again. As soon as the concert became available on video, we arrived at the store to buy it. Even though I stayed in athletics, I have sinced performed with my local college in Brigadoon, Hello Dolly, Greese, Oklahoma, and Les Miserables. In Les Miz, I graciously accepted the part of Jean Valjean, GIVEN, to me by my director/choir instructor. I hope Les Miserables can be as inspirational to others as it was to me.

Summary: Almost complete
Review: This DVD is great to look at but if you loved the play do not throw out your VCR yet the VHS version is 26 min longer and I can't wait for them to fix it.
