Summary: 1st half was great. Portrayal of Jim in 2nd half innacurate
Review: The first part was fascinating. Great acting by Val. However, the 2nd half was a circus using all of the stereotypes of Jim as a pathetic lost soul. All good within the man was lost to an image of gross stupitidity showing him as nearly brainless. I would love to see another movie that is more sympathetic and accurate

Summary: Not exactly j.m.'s life but good enogh for stone to make $$$
Review: It was for hollywood so I dont know why everyone thinks it is so accurate. If you have ever researched the life of the lizard king, you know stone did not stay true to the doors. ask ray, or anyone who follows the doors more than wathching the movie two or three times and his two greatest hits tapes.

Summary: Must own DVD!
Review: Although the DVD sounds great and looks great and there's still morons who just don't get how necessary widescreen is, I think this DVD was meant to be.

The only think I didn't like about this film is that we really only get to see about 30% of what Jim Morrison's personality was like, we never really learn a lot from this film. All we see is a man obsessed with drugs who ocasionally sings. And not the great friend he was to the rest of the Doors or the amazing poet he turned out to be.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It could have been better but it still deserves 5 stars.
Review: This video could have shown some more positive components of the Doors and their road to Platinum Record Recordings. That probably would have lengthened it quite a bit. But, it would have been worth it. The good points of the movie were:

1.Oliver Stone did a well job of directing. Many parts of the story weren't left out.

2.Val Kilmer did an awesome job of portraying Jim Morrison, right down to the exact mannerisms.

3.The music is kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: good but not the real story
Review: the movie was somewhat true ... the fact that morrison had a lot of troubles but it was not entirely correct. Alot of important facts about the doors were left out.. such as how jim and pam met and so on. HOWEVER it was entertaining for the fact it was about us. It really did let me down in a lot of areas but thats hollywood!

Anyway if you like the doors watch it for the doors...then form your own opinion...

thanks, Ray Manzarek

Summary: A well told story
Review: I hate wide screen letterbox formatted DVD's. I do not own one, nor do I ever intend on owning one. I did not purchase a 27" television so I can view 13" inches of picture. What IS the thinking????

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great movie for door fans
Review: This is the best way to see the doors in 1999. What a party-I wish I could have been there!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: AN INACCURATE POTRAYL OF A ROCK LEGEND FOR SURE!!!
Review: I saw THE DOORS after I had read LIGHT MY FIRE by RAY MANZAREK and I could see why he hated it.The movie THE DOORS focused in my opinion way too much on JIM MORRISON'S self-destructive tendancies not on how the group made thier fantastic music. Don't get me wrong VAL KILMER while he's potraying morrison does the best he can with the inept script his performance besides the music is the only thing that saves this film from being a total disaster and don't get me started on MEG RYAN I thought she definatley was a lame PAM COURISON to say the least. I felt that OLIVER STONE did'nt really research THE DOORS either and it shows so all in all read LIGHT MY FIRE by RAY MANZAREK for the real story not this movie.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: As a Doors fan this movie stunk.
Review: When I heard that Stone was going to make the movie I was excited, but very disappointed in the movie. It failed to capture the essence of Jim Morrison the man. His life and the fact that he was more beautiful than the actor who portrayed him. As a doors fan from the 60"s, Kilmer didnt play Jim as convincingly. He wasnt as beautiful as Jim. Ryan as Pamela was boring. She had more dye in her hair than Pamela ever did. The rest of the doors were not as defined as well as they should have been. Jim had a troubled life, but where in the hell did the bald guy come from, what was up with him.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good movie, great quality.
Review: While the movie in VHS was very good, the DVD edition flat blew me away. The songs sound terrific and the scenes are crisp and sharp. Excellant choice for your library.
