Summary: McGregor the Gr8!!!
Review: I have 2 say one thing first, when i sat down 2 watch this movie i DID expect it 2 b MUCH better. i guess i was expecting 2 much, but by the end of the movie i was in tears of joy and happiness. this is a gr8 movie. McGregor has so many sides 2 him. he can play nething and everything ppl throw @ him. whether it being a young writer in search of love, an employee working for the stock-market, or a young ambiscious Jedi apprentice who embarks on a galactic mission and kills an evil sith!! McGregor can do everything!! ecspecially sing. i bought the soundtrack for Moulin Rouge b4 i ever saw the movie. by the time the movie came out on video i was singing along with all the charectors. my friend had 2 tell me 2 sit down and shut-up. well, i can go on all day about how gr8 this movie was and how sexy Ewan McGregor is, but i won't because i'm limited to 1,000 words, so i'll leave you with: "this movie is a gr8 story for everyone 2 see. i recomend it 2 neone who loves singing dancing, AND ABOVE ALL ELSE, LOVE." lol. :) ><>

Summary: Whether you like musicals or not, this movie's a wild ride!
Review: Roughly 10-15 minutes into Moulin Rouge I asked myself - "What the hell am I watching?" Afterwards, however, I thought - "THAT was very cool!"

Set in a Paris theatre at the turn of the last century, Moulin Rouge is well more than what meets the eye...and ear. It delivers what I can only describe as a Musical Collage. You literally get whisked away to a magical/musical wonderland filled with contemporary songs ranging from Madonna to Nirvana, Elton John to The Police, and much more. The way the filmmakers adapted all of these songs into a single cabaret style (along with some INSANE special effects!) couldn't have been better. My first impression was - "Why are these people singing Smells Like Teen Spirit when it's supposed to be 1899?"
But, they make it work!

It was also great to see Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman play (and sing) roles like these. I was already an admirer of Ewan's work, but I can now honestly say that Nicole is much more than a beautiful face. She was spectacular AND sexy...sorry Tom!

Moulin Rouge can be dizzying to watch at times, because of its frantic editing and wild imagery, but like a good roller coaster - it's ALL part of the ride.

Summary: Absinthe does not make the heart grow fonder
Review: This campy unnatural telling of the simplest of love stories does not rise to the promised bohemian heights of beauty, freedom, truth and love. Nevertheless, a triumph of style over substance is still a triumph of sorts. Don't forget to check out the green fairy!

Summary: Yuck
Review: There are two reasons why I saw this movie, the first is Nicole Kidman and the second is that all the reviews I read were of an extreme nature. "Great", I told myself, "people either love it or hate it."
I figured that the bad reviews were probably from people who didn't understand the movie.
Then when I finally try to watch it the plot is so simplistic a four year old could follow it. But that's not what turned me off since I've seen movies with simplistic plots that still charm you with a warm story.
That was not the case with this movie. The characters are horrid, the editing is sickening and the music only aids in making a bad movie worse.
There are a lot of positive reviews for this movie and all I can say to anyone who likes this movie is "SHAME ON YOU".

Summary: My new favorite movie of all time
Review: I've waited so long to see this movie. With only one theater in my town, it only lasted a week and i wasn't able to see it then. Usualy I wouldn't buy a movie before seeing it, but i went out on a limb with this one, and was amazed, astonished, blown away by this movie! It was absolutly the greatest movie i have ever seen. Its chaos, color, and music is like a feast for the senses. Ewan's voice was so innocent and naive, without losing his masculinity. Nicole, an amazing actress, was at her best in this film. You may love it, or you may hate it, but I guarantee you will not leave the theater (so to speak) without feeling a thing.

Summary: Huge Disappointment
Review: It's difficult to watch a movie supposedly taking place in the year 1899-1900 and hear Elton John, The Beatles and Madonna quoted. Sad, really. I watched the entire movie strictly because Craig Armstrong is such a brilliant composer. The original music is as I would expect from Mr. Armstrong. The movie was over the top--that's OK, but overall, very poor.

Summary: disappointing overall
Review: Is this movie trying to take itself seriously? I must admit that it's visually stunning, and has moments of pure greatness where the emotions soar. BUT...

In the end, it comes off a little too "comic book" to be a great film. Overly trendy, the movie seems to pander a lot to the latest pop culture. Hardly any of the music is original, and it gets a little tedious after awhile hearing turn-of-the-century characters belt out "Like A Virgin" or "I Will Always Love You." And sometimes, Ewen McGregor just runs around with an idiot grin singing "Come what may..." over and over.

A great movie with a lot of distractions is no longer great, to sum up. I found it to be very promising, but very average. Same goes for the extras on the DVD -- there are a lot of chances to shine but few times where it actually happens. Buyer beware: Rent it first to see it suits you.

Summary: Weird, but I liked it!
Review: Well I thought I was getting a musical story about Moulin Rouge. Wow! I was really surprised! At first it just seemed so weird that I wasn't really keeping up with the story, When Ewan McGregor started singing I was blown away! Once I really got into it, it was really a powerful emotional story. I ended up watching it again and I loved it. Nicole Kidman can really sing too. I am planning to buy this movie and watch it often. The music is wonderful, the colors are fantastic, and the mood is great.

Summary: Moulin Rouge
Review: This was the best movie I have seen in my life! Granded when I went to see it had no idea what the movie was about. The only idea I did have was when someone told me it was about a ... house five seconds before the movie started. But let me tell you right now it is soooo much more. The color, the visual effects, the directing, the acting, and last but certinly not least, THE SING! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor light up the screen not only in the singing and dancing but also in the extrodnary acting. All in all the best performence I have seen in both theses very talented actors. Baz Luthrmann and Craig Pearice do an abosoltue wonderful job of telling an wonderful love story through song.

Summary: Wow!
Review: The first reactions to this strange but enchanting movie were mixed, the loudest speakers saying that none of the actors can sing. And if you are overcritical, you might think that. But this story about love (which seems a lot like Camille) is amazing. Every scene was bright and amazing, but the way it was filmed takes a little getting used to. The romance played out my McGregor and Kidman is amazing, leaving you crying at the end (if you are that type of person). But if you have a habit of blinking then you might need to watch a few scenes two or three times to catch everything (like the song when Satine meets the Duke in the tower and people are dancing at the same time in the Moulin Rouge). All in all, a great hit! I'm sorry not enough people were interested when it came out.
