Summary: Heh...Nicole's hair is funny =D
Review: This is a good movie for bored people. I'll agree with the masses, the scenery is utterly breathtaking, and the land race is fun to watch as well. The characters all have interesting quirks, but the accents were badly rehersed. Pros: Tom Cruise. Scenery. Tom Cruise. Some very funny moments. Tom Cruise. Seeing Nicole Kidman's hair like that. Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise. Cons: The storyline isn't fantastic. Sometimes very cheesy. very predictable. Many cliqued phrases.

Summary: Amazing....simply amazing
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. Its colorful, funny, dramatic, full of action and romance (not to mention Tom Cruise's "hotness"), it's a little of everything! My mom actually made me watch this and as soon as it started I wouldn't let her turn it off! I would recommend this movie to anyone!

Summary: Great Movie
Review: Far and Away is a beautiful story of the American dream. It's told like a fairytale, but in a more updated style. I think this element is missed by many who see it. It's very well done and beautifully shot with great performances. The music/score is also excellent.

Summary: Far and Away
Review: I love this movie! It wasn't terrific but both Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise acted extremely well in it. It's funny, dramatic, sad, entertaining, and loving! Definately view it before you consider buying it, but definately view it!

Summary: A very moving love story and inspiring epic
Review: Every time I saw the ending, I couldn't help my tears, although I knew that it's gonna be a happy ending.
Ron Howard is a great story teller with a unique sense of humor.

Summary: My wife really likes this film.
Review: I however think it is okay nothing more. Aside from Tom Cruise's bad Irish accent it is a fairly enjoyable way to send a couple of hours. I do enjoy this movie personally from a historical perspective partly as a fan of history and partly as being descended from Irish immigrants to Oklahoma. If you are from an Irish family or from Oklahoma this film is easy to relate to. Pick it up at least to learn a little about where you came from.

Summary: Great movie, but some scenes were deleted from original
Review: First of all, this is a beautiful movie. Other reviews have captured the basic storyline, and so I won't go into that much here. The ending did surprise me the first time I saw this movie and I didn't like it (even though it is a happy ending) and wasn't going to buy the movie as a result. However, the more I thought about the movie, the more I realized the ending really fit with the rest of the movie and shouldn't have been such a trial of my suspension of disbelief.

The bottom line is that this movie makes me happy. When I watch it I feel fantastic. It shows us a fictional success story in a historical setting. Its dialogue is at times very witty, and never dull.

The DVD picture quality is beautiful.

This love story is so much better than some others out there because their relationship develops over time. It feels so much more real. This is probably helped by the fact that Tom and Nicole were married then. They interacted very well. Part of what I personally like, too, is how Joseph (Tom) treats Shannon (Nicole) so tenderly - with the exception of dumping her in the bathtub fully clothed! But he was definitely provoked!

I was disappointed about the deleted scenes. They didn't even have an option to see those scenes separately, like many dvds do. Here are the ones I noticed. Most importantly, the "crazy Mick" scenes were deleted. You still see the explosions from making way for the railroad, but they left out the parts where the foreman needs someone to do a dangerous job, and asks for the "crazy Mick" (Joseph), because he has been willing to do it. They deleted the scene where Joseph finds a job shoveling rocks and will work for less than the other men and then Shannon joins in and helps him (that was after they were kicked out of their room). It showed their desperation and I'm sorry they left it out. They deleted the scene where Shannon actually quits her work at the chicken factory and the workers applaud her. They deleted the scene with Steven on the hilltop in Ireland writing a letter to Shannon although he doesn't know where to mail it and Shannon's father says something about hating to see a young man so miserable over love. Nothing else of major importance was deleted.

But they left so much in that is worth seeing. You take the journey with Shannon and Joseph from Ireland to a cruise ship to the boxing matches in Boston to developing railroads to racing for land in the Oklahoma territory. You journey with them from riches to poverty to wealth of a kind again. You journey with them as they grow personally. Fantastic movie!

Summary: The Irish music adds a wonderful touch
Review: I won't give you the summary of the movie, as lots of other people have already done so. This movie gives a realistic picture of the stark world Irish immigrants found themselves in when they arrived in America. I really enjoyed the Chieftains's music (especially in the fight scene, since I have that album). The landscaping was very beautiful. The only problem I found was that the movie covered too much time. While I liked watching the main characters' feelings toward each other slowly change, I feel that it was too much distance to cover: from Ireland to Boston to Oklahoma. It had an ability to lose its focus.
All in all, great music, beautiful scenery, lovely Irish accents. I wouldn't buy it, though.

Summary: Far And Away
Review: This movie is one of the all time best romance movies. There is something for every taste in this film, from romance and action to history and drama. The story is great and the movie is beautifully presented. FAR AND AWAY is an A+ movie that everyone will enjoy.

Summary: Just fast forward through the last 5-10 minutes...
Review: This film is well-made and entertaining until about the last 5-10 minutes, when it suddenly becomes so hopelessly preposterous and maudlin as to make you actually regret sitting through the whole thing! It's hard not to feel sorry for Kidman and Cruise for being forced to do and say such utterly stupid things, but I'm sure they were well compensated though they both looked fairly stricken too.

In a nutshell: just as the happily-ever-after ending is almost clinched after a predictably suspenseful conflict/challenge situation, Tom Cruise has a near-death experience but is brought back by...Nicole Kidman's True Love and Heartbreak! Ron Howard as demonstrated in his other films is a fine director, with enough of a brain and good taste so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and blame this outrageously nauseating ending on some Hollywood producer(s) and their focus group of 13 year old halfwits and emotionally deprived housewives.
