Summary: Spectacular acting, cinematography, music, story, DIRECTION
Review: Truely Scorsese's greatest masterpiece. Beautiful colors and cinematography make this movie a must see for all students in film school. The appropriate pacing of the film is perfectly combined with Phillip Glass's score (which is of epic proportions). The three things that surprised me with this film was A: I cannot believe some of these actors are actually real monks with no screen experiance (they were amazing) B: How Scorsese can one day create films like "Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver" then create this one. C: how did this film not clean up at the Academy Awards!!!

Summary: Tremendous
Review: This is one of the most moving accounts of the Dali Lama and the ongoing tradgedies of the Tibetan people. It is unfortunate that those who do not understand the numerous themes feel it is boring. This is a timeless masterpiece.

Summary: Too long, too boring
Review: I think this movie was too long, too boring and too odl day fashioned for me to understand it comepletely but I think the acting was excellent. How would they remember all those boring words and sentences? I was really disappointed when I went to see it but I think we should give the actors some credit for they put their best work into this movie. I would only recommened this movie to people at least 50 - 100 years old, it is pretty ancient. Kundun is boring, long and true but it is still a movie and we kidn of have to be grateful.

Summary: Wonderfully detailed, true to the history of the Dali Lama
Review: The story is true, the facts displayed honestly and the incredibly rich detail shows the dedication and effort which must have gone into this movie. Not the gripping personal drama of 7 Years in Tibet, Kundun takes a panoramic view of the events in Tibet from the finding of the reincarnation of Kundun to his exile in India.

A fine movie worthy of the brilliance of picture and high quality sound the DVD format permits.

Summary: Vision of Holiness
Review: As a Tibetan Buddhist, I was slightly scared to see how His Holiness would be seen in this, one of two movies to chronicle his life. I was pleased to find it one of the best movies I had ever seen. Mr. Scorsese did his research, and it shows. From the young Buddha-to-be, to the Spiritual Leader of the Land of Snows. Breathtaking. A must for all Buddhists, as well as anyone who wants to understand the problems in Tibet. May through his works, suffering be ended. May all beings obtain enlightenment. Tashi Delek.

Summary: Something about life
Review: I never saw Kundun in a theatre, but I bought the video out of curiosity. I was really fascinated. I thought that no one could make such a beautiful movie. For that Kundun is: the most beautiful film ever made. It contains a world of colours and music (I also have the soundtrack), which other films can't reach. And the story takes the rest. When you watch the picture, you start to believe that Dalai lama is, indeed, a holy man.

Summary: Scorcese gets better and better
Review: Watching this film it is hard at times to imagine it was directed by the same man who brought us Goodfellas and Mean Streets. Scorcese has always been known for the constantly maintained pace of his films, tracking shots and quick-fire dialogue. So this makes it all the more interesting when he decides to tackle in the Dalai Lama, a subject who is almost defined by his stillness. The film is a resounding success due to the directors restraint. He clearly feels some reverance for the Dalai Lama and given his story rightly so. This film is a fascinating study of a culture that few of us in the west know much about but more importantly this is a truly inspirational film. One of the main reasons this film works so well is the Phillip Glass score which i bought after seeing the film. Without the score the necessarily slow pace of much of the film may have dragged but the music adds a sense of real grandeur to the incredible cinematography. In short if you are one of the apparent minority who thought Age of Innocence was amongst Scorcese's best work then you won't be disappointed by Kundun, a film which takes its director to a new level as an artist. Since seeing this film i have continued to read more aabout the Dalai Lama and its rare that i think a film has actually enriched my life in a real way.
