Summary: First Half is Terrific and Entertaining
Review: BOILER ROOM (2000) * * 1/2 Would-be hot shot college dropout gets a job in a "boiler room", where fast-talking salesman sell mostly worthless stocks to gullible phone customers. Worth seeing overall thanks to a good cast of young actors (Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Affleck, Scott Caan, Vin Diesel, Nia Long and more). The first hour is terrific and entertaining, but the less interesting and believable subplots take over in the second half. It's never boring, just disappointing that a movie that started off so energetic and engrossing lost its way in the last 45 minutes or so.

Review: The film, 'The Boiler Room' is a movie no one should over look. Yes, at first I thought I wouldn't have liked it. I was dead wrong...

The film trails a man called Seth Davis. He dropped out of Queens College, and turned into an entrepreneur. He turned his basement, into a casino. At the rate he was going, he didn't need to go to college. Between classes, many students went down there, to lose money... Soon enough, his Dad finds out. That turns everything into a mess. For Seth to please his dad, he finds himself in a small time brokerage company, called 'JT Marlon.' The money is fantastic, and Seth wonders why? Down the road, he finds out the real reason why the firm makes the money it does...

The acting in the film is great. I got into the characters A LOT! Especially one man named Harry. I promise you, you will LOVE this movie.

The ending was kind of week, so I wanted to give it 4 stars. But, I just couldn't. Fantastic movie!

Summary: Watch it........You wont be dissapointed
Review: This movie was so great. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The only thing that got me mad was why this movie didn't do that great at the movies. It was one of this years best. The story line was great and the acting was brilliant. It was about stock brokers at their best, it was wrong at the same time. The ending was confusing and left many unanswered questions but the movie itself was worth it.

Summary: Not what I expected.
Review: I would give this book an 81 outa' 100. When I originally saw the commercial on TV, I thought WOW, That is going to be a great movie! But it did go from theater to rental fast! Now I see why. The acting was good. However, the whole movie seemed lacking with flavor. The Plot was excellent! It just seems like the actors did not give the required energy that was required for a five star movie. I think that anyone that is interested in stocks should see this movie.

Review: In between the Rap soundtrack, the warmed over storyline and predictable plot - there wasnt much to enjoy here. I have to say I am very unimpressed with these actors, Ribisi, Diesel and Affleck - Affleck especially trying to reprise the role of Alec Baldwin from Glengarry Glenn Ross, frankly he would be scarier reading his lines in a dress. Wall Street is a far superior film - while it is given "homage", it basically says a lot that the best scene is when the actors are repeating Michael Douglas's lines while watching the movie on TV.

Review: If you have seen Wall Street and Glengarry Glenn Ross (which are both referred to in this movie) then most likely you have already bought the film. But if you haven't, you need to see them all. Boiler Room's story grabs you and doesn't let go, and the acting is done very well. But what gets me is that this is the first movie for the director. Unbelievable! A young man is hired by a firm that promises that he will be paid 1 million dollars within 4 months, but how can the firm afford paying everyone that much? And how does he get out of it?

Summary: White Collar Goodfellas
Review: First off, let me start by saying that this movie has one of the worst endings I have seen in a really long time, nothing is resolved. Giovanni Ribisi has a ton of talent but it is wasted on this convoluted script which has no direction and takes the viewer nowhere. Ben Affleck is great as the company's pitchman but his appearances are few and far between, as are Vin Diesel's. Nia Long's part is completely wasted and has no bearing on the plot whatsoever. The relationship between Ribisi and his father is ridiculous. So basically the only thing that makes this movie good is watching these sharks in action. The movie contains some great one-liners and the action on the floor is key. But overall, the narration is taken right from Goodfellas 101 as is the camera work on some of the more violent scenes. I mean seriously any movie whose key quote was penned by the Notorious BIG is trying really hard not to be taken seriously.

Review: The Boiler Room movie is energetic, rude, crude, macho, racist even, and yet cracklin' with fresh energy. I highly recommend this film. Boiler Room captures the testosterone-charged sales atmosphere that draws the greedy and the gullible to Low Finance, like flames to a moth - be they underclass salesmen or witless customers.

Far from the glitz of Wall Street, boiler rooms employ dozens of low-brow, high-pressure pitchmen to telemarket outrageous securities scams to unsuspecting people who dream of an easy win. The stock promoters engage in classic fraudulent schemes, like "pump and dump" which consists of inflating penny stock prices sky high to attract the gullible, then shorting the stocks all the way down. As soon as the regulators start closing in, the boiler rooms simply relocate to new addresses, and start all over again.

This film hits the shelves at a time when real-world boiler rooms are finally starting to feel the pain of government scrutiny. Quite a few years ago I got a blind phone call from somebody at A.S. Goldmen, a Florida bucket shop. That hotshot's voice literally warmed up with pride when he confided "Yeah, a lotta people confuse us with Goldman Sachs!" I laughed at him and hung up. Only last month, A.S. Goldmen was finally taken to court, accused of bilking customers out of $100 million, and rumored even to have mob ties

Yes, this film is not perfect - Giovanni Ribisi is a wimpy lead, and, the director is out of his depth when handling love and family relationships. But the rest of the Gen Y acting crew is absolutely fantastic, and the bulk of the film has cult classic written all over it. Nicky Katt and Vin Diesel are spot on, and Ben Affleck delivers the best "motivational" talks since Glengarry Glen Ross. The director does a great job of showcasing his characters' contradictions: they want to make lots of money without understanding the system; just as they listen to hip-hop music while maintaining a universally racist worldview.

Warning: sensitive viewers who object to vulgar language, should stay away. All others, rock on.

Review: Boiler Room is a devilishly entertaining movie that captures some deep insights into Generation Y. Although the shady world of "chop shop" stock-traders may be exaggerated, Boiler Room depicts some phenomena that are long overdue in the movies, particularly the collision of suburbanite white boys with urban hip-hop. The acting is, without exception, flawless - Ribisi and company shine in every scene, alternately exuding alpha-male corporate bravado and acute sensitivity. The directing and editing tie the performances together with an ultra-seamless, hip-hop driven energy that is simultaneously playful and slick. Mark my words: you will want to pitch a sale before you hit the eject button on your VCR.
