Summary: don't take my word for it
Review: Don't take my word for it, because this is one of my favorite movies. I will admit, it's a long story. However, if you have the patience to sit and watch, it's a good one! Pacino is at his best and the plot is warm hearted and wonderful. Of course, the tango scene is not to me missed. They don't make movies as good as this all the time, so take your time and enjoy it.

Summary: Best macho movie I have ever seen
Review: This movie shows what our kids are learning in school nowadays, unlike our ancestors. They have become totally like minnows and wouldnt be able to take care of themselves when they are a encountered by trying situations. The man, Colonel Slade, shows what a real "man" would be like. Its a great movie and you will have ur spirits up if u are a man and (like me) have been forced by society to suppress your manhood.

Summary: Very average Hollywood piece...
Review: ... and when I say "Hollywood," I don't mean this in a complimentary way. I can't say that I wasn't entertained, but other than that the film has very few redeeming values (remind you of anything else Hollywood has released in the past 25 years?).

Although I enjoy Pacino as much as anyone, he plays the same note in every single picture -- loud, forceful and aggressive. The ending was just awful and totally unrealistic and brought back bad memories of other (unnamed but obvious) films where someone makes a dumb speech (or says/does something else totally contrived and meant to arouse emotions) and everyone stands up & claps at the end. I really wanted to like this film more than I did, and the ending sort of ruined it for me. I think I've outgrown the sort of maudlin, sentimental unrealism Hollywood throws up on the screen to woo the masses. I'm sure this review won't be very popular either, but I think honesty is a more important value than "not snitching on your friends." If you disagree, please feel free to snitch on me with a "no" vote.

Summary: Hoo-hah!
Review: A brilliant performance from Al Pacino as a blind Lt. Col. I saw this movie after seeing 'Dog Day Afternoon'. Since then, I've seen almost every Al Pacino movie and he's become one of favorite actors. The tango scene & the scene at the ferrari dealership are my favorites in the movie. If you've seen any of Pacino's works and liked it, this is for you.

Summary: Another great Pacino rant
Review: It's Al Pacino again outpacing just about everybody else in the cast. Here he plays Frank Slade, a retired, blind and embittered US Army officer unloaded on a young prep-school student for Thanksgiving. Slade was brilliant and fearless, which meant he had no friends and was repeatedly passed over for bigger and better things. Embittered and alcoholic, he tried juggling live grenades once and...something bad happened. Blinded in the accident, Slade lives with the only family members who can stand his ranting - but the Colonel obliges them by keeping to his own room for most of the time, and by forming a secret plan that will put him out of everybody's misery. Without giving away too much - the plan involves a room at the Waldorf in Manhattan, a bottle of the finest Jack Daniel's, Thanksgiving dinner with the relatives who couldn't stand to live with him, a night with the most expensive woman in Manhattan, a limo, his .45 service pistol...and one bullet.

Unfortunately for the plan (but not for Frank) the prep school student assigned to nurse him through the weekend is Charlie Sims, played by Chris O'Donnel (a less confident and less immature and American version of Hugh Grant's shtick). Sims has his own problems - expulsion from school, and from a more financially insured future unless he names students he saw involved in a prank against the school's pompous head dean. The dilemma between losing his future and his honor plagues Charlie thruought the weekend, and only makes it easier for Frank to dragoon him into a jaunt to New York. (Another student is also a witness, but that boy comes from a wealthy family and can afford to stay quiet) Over the weekend, Frank alternates between browbeating and educating Charlie in the ways of being a man, specifically an American man (between running for cover and facing the music, running is the better idea, Frank advises). The script purposefully makes Sims a wuss if only to force Slade into seizing a cause more desperate than his own. In the end, it's no surprise that Slade will come to the rescue, fighting for Charlie before the school board with an impassioned oratory that's pure Pacino. "(I'm out of order? I'M OUT OF ORDER!?") Pacino plays well off the very soft-spoken O'Donnell without appearing to bully him, and fits in well with everybody else in a film cast heavily on character actors like James Reborn (you may remember the pompous dean who holds O'Donnell's future in his hands was also the weaselly SecDef from "Independence Day", the slick prosecutor from "Carlito's Way" or the sinister exec who talks Michael Douglas into joining "The Game".) Even if you're not a Pacino fan, this flick will still keep you sniffing.

Summary: One of The Best Performances By The Best Actor!
Review: This movie is all about a great performance, and I'm not talking about Chris O'Donnell. This movie shows the great acting ability in my favorite actor, Al Pacino. He gets a very well deserved Academy Award, which he should of got a long time ago. This shows how great acting and a great script can go a long way. Nobody could do a better job of acting as a blind man. He pulled it off and made it very believable. The other actors in this movie are mediocre, but it was really about Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade. Great Performance and anyone who is a fan of Al Pacino or of great acting watch this movie!!

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This movie is not that great but someone starring in it is unbelievable. Al Pacino brings acting to a new height and I don't think anyone can beat him in acting ever. If you haven't seen the movie you are missing an opportunity of a lifetime to see one of the greatest artists of our time at his best. Watch it and judge for yourself. The story is alright and depicts this Colonel (Pacino) who is blind and a kid who has issues however the intenese emotional drama is mind boggling. I always believe that great movies are those which evoke emotion in it's audience and this movie made me nostalgic. You must see this movie to understand how fortunate most of us are as we are still able to see.
