Rating: Summary: RIP "Superfly" Review: This movie broke new grounds in the 70s for "Boyz In Da Hood" and "Menace II Society" in the 90s. This movie was not only fun, but tried to educate the world about drugs in the inner city. This movie was very controversial at the time because of the drugs, interracial relationships and glorifying drug dealers as heroes. Although quite dated, this movie still rings true about the inner city. And Ron O'Neal was one of a kind.Ron O'Neal, you will live on in all of us who saw your films. Just like the blaxploitation movies in the 1970s will live on. RIP
Rating: Summary: THANK GOD FOR THE '70S Review: This movie is kung-fu funkadelic fun. Unless you really DIG a giant Cadillac with curb-feelers, monster-fur dash and purple detail, the funk of this movie will be lost on you. The film takes itself very seriously. In a way, it was like watching a day in the life of Prince before PURPLE RAIN. God, I loved the 70's. mike
Rating: Summary: Curtis Mayfield score Review: This movie is really good but Curtis Mayfield's score pushes it over the top especially with the theme "Freddie's Dead". Awesome
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE VIDEO! Review: This movie is so cool!I watch it just to look at the old 70's style clothes and hear one of the best sound tracks ever!If you dont buy the movie at least check out the CD.The movie is about a drug dealer that gets tired of all the violence and wants out of the game, but it's easier said than done."Superfly" was so liked back in the day that people would try to look like the lead character. Even today rapper Snoop Dogg got the long straightened hairdo with the gangster hat tilt to the side. Buy this video and see where the phrase "Original Ganster" came from!If you like those old black action movies from the 70's you got to get this one for your collection!!
Rating: Summary: Way ahead of it's time Review: This movie was filmed and released quietly back in '72 but ended up being one of the biggest box office hits of the year, and deservedly so. ... Even today, 30 years after its release, it packs a hard and bitter punch at "the man" and it is hands down the best and most important of the blaxploitation films of its day... it probably has more in common with the ghetto movies of the '90s like New Jack City than anything else. Ron O'Neal is cast perfectly as Priest, a big-time cocaine dealer disenchanted with the hand he's been dealt... He adds a cold and quiet menace to the character, understating his lines with an authority as cruelly elegant as his cheekbones... Director Gordon Parks, Jr. broke down a lot of doors for young directors in the '70s with this film and caused the major studios to start taking a second look at unknown directors who before would have never been given a chance... Also, the late great Curtis Mayfield soundtrack is an absolutely essential companion piece for this movie and will forever have a place in music history as one of the single greatest recordings of all time.
Rating: Summary: Yeah!! Bombicular This one, yo! Review: Tough badass brotha takin no flack and layin it down real heavy. Stone groove of a movie. Plus you got Mr. Mayfield layin the funky beats in the background. Pusherman? Outta site, yo! Word to all that funkifies!
