Summary: worth a peek 3.5
Review: "the hole" released by miramax after a couple years gathering dust on a shelf, only to cash in on keira knightleys success after "pirates of the caribbean".thats why her face is blown up on the dvd cover,a little odd considering she is just a costar.thora birch turns in a great performance,in a twisted mix of "fatal attraction"@"primal fear".the flick starts of pretty great, lingers in the middle, peps up again, the end wimps out a bit, still its a above average flick, thanx to miramax for tossing another good flick down the crapper.not even wes craven, who gave them 3 hits in a row,"scream 1-3"is safe from there sticky fingers.{cursed}i am just an average film fan,but i just hate when a company screws with a directors film, you either bought the film from them,or hired them to make it for you,the least you could do is release the damn thing in a timely fashion!

Summary: Going underground
Review: As THE HOLE opens, a dirty, dissheveled girl stumbles into town, looking with every step as if she won't make it much further. By the time she finally reaches a phone and dials emergency, she is so traumatized that all she can do is scream.

What we know is this: over holiday, four prep school students decided to have a very private party in an abandoned underground shelter out in the woods. They were down there for eighteen days. But what really happened to them will be revealed gradually over the course of the film as Liz (Thora Birch), the girl from the opening scenes, plays cat and mouse with a psychiatrist (Embeth Davidtz) who is trying to get her to tell her story.

This is a twisty thriller with great acting on all parts. Thora Birch's fake English accent grated on me at first, probably just because I know she's not English, but as the film progressed I didn't notice it so much. It also becomes clear that she was the right choice for this particular role.

The DVD includes director's commentary, in which he talks about sets, censorship, the psychological motivations of the main character, and uses the word "oblique" a lot. It was not exactly lively, but it was moderately interesting. There are also some deleted scenes and an alternate ending. The corpselike image of Keira Knightly on the cover of this release is misleading, as she's hardly the star, though her fans will definitely want to check the film out. (I have seen much more appropriate in-store copies that have Keira and Thora sharing cover space.)

Summary: ugh
Review: First of all, keira should thank the casting person that put her sorry @ss in that soccer movie in England. She is plain, boring, flat-chested, and eerily identical to Natalie Portman- I can't tell them apart. I hate preformers and actresses like that- look just like everyone else, very no-identity so often play good girls. The annoying kind.
And Thora! This is why you aren't getting good roles in good movies! Toplessness and non-stop sex scenes do not an actress make. Use your talent and throw away porny scripts!
So anyways I hate when the end of a movie starts at the beginning and then proceeds to play backwards. Why show things that didn't happen?? Why make a movie half in the past , half in the current time?? It was too much; made me nauseous. Reccommended for teenagers and empty headed early-twenties. If you want sex scenes, rent a porno not a movie.

Summary: Very Entertaining, Worth Checking Out!
Review: I bought this film without even seeing it, but thoroughly enjoyed it! For those JESUS FREAKS out there, who don't like swearing or nudity, do us a favor and lock yourselves in a cave or blow your brains out!!!! GET OFF MY PLANET!!!

Summary: Keeps You Watching
Review: I first expected this movie to be another cliche teen horror-flick but soon into it I changed my mind.
It is rare for a movie to be so intense you can't stop thinking about it after it is finished, and The Hole is one of these movies.
Thora Birch displays an excellent performance, and the twists and turns throughout are what keeps the veiwer watching.
It is amazing to watch just what a love-obsessed girl will resort to for a few extra days with the guy she is after.
I found the scenes involving the death's of her best friend and the guy she is after's best friend extremely effective, and the unsatisfying ending somehow wouldn't seem right any other way.
I cannot find any other words to describe this amazing flick, but I definitely recommend it to anyone interested.

Summary: like a dirty secret, that you're embarassed to share
Review: I have to admit, I'm only giving my two cents here because the discrepency in opinions of this flick are as wide as the "The Hole" in question.(and yes I do think that's funny). Also it's fun to see just how many feel the need to comment about these things, going to great length to explain the whole story, or at best the "ingredients" of the film. Nude scenes, gore, infos about Ms. Knightley etc. So I'm just going to add that in fact, it is a fairly decently plotted B-Movie all the same. Might've actually even made a fairly decent play, or TV movie, but I suppose if I saw it in the cinema, I might've been annoyed. However, I was inspired to write a song for an album of mine based on the theme of twisted desire displayed by Thora Birch's character in this film. It is quite a morbid little surprise after all. Plus the music by Clint Mansell, and the title theme by Recoil are fantastic. However if that's the best I can say about it, well.... Obviously I agree with the ones who feel it's not quite up to par on the whole (oops, sorry!) The title is actually half the problem, and yeah this US version with Keira on the cover is misleading because she is not the star. All I can say is the people in this film are somehow downright nasty, but there's a bizarre honesty to some of the feeling portrayed here, and also a sadness. It remains a dirty secret that you may or may not be too embarassed to share.

Summary: Best movie this year
Review: I know that it has only been 2004 for what twenty days? But so far this is the best movie I've seen all year! It was so good!

This is not another dumb scary teen movie. This is a suspensful thriller that will keep your attention right to the very end. It is also cleverly told with parallel plots so that you never get bored.

And for all you scardy cats out there (like me) don't worry it isn't scary at all. But it didn't need to be scary to be enjoyable. It was as good as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. After I saw it I was very surprised that it wasn't directed by Tarantino himself.

The acting was also great if you just wanted to know. It's to bad that it wasn't ever released American theatres otherwise it would've one my vote for Best actress, Best suppoting actress, best screenplay and maybe even BEST PICTURE.

I myself bought this movie off amazon.com and I think there are two left. Hope this review helped you.

Summary: Obcession leads to murder
Review: I thought the movie the Hole, was well done. I loved the way how you thought that the version Liz told the Cop was true. But than you start to see as she goes home the real story that comes out.

The worst part of the movie was, you realise that Liz had the key all along she loved Mike so much that she would even consider watching her own best friend Frankie die. As she did do so. It shows you that sometimes what you want isn't always in turn good for you.

Summary: A fine British thriller with a twist.
Review: I won't spoil this interesting British thriller/horror with too much of a synopsis, save to say that it is set, initially, in an English Public School (posh and private in American), although the film later turns into an admittedly shallow analysis of obsession.

As you can imagine from the title, the protagonists get stuck in a hole, which was previously used as a bomb shelter. The story is mainly told through contrary flashbacks.

Starring the beautiful, up and coming Kiera Knightley, and Thora Birch from American Beauty I think it will transfer quite well for American audiences who can take the claustrophobic atmosphere.

Summary: amazingly well done
Review: It was really an amazing movie, Thora Birch at her best, and the lovely Kiera Knightly was terrific...
