Summary: I'm so glad I picked up this one!
Review: This is a movie that I hadn't heard a thing about, but decided to take a chance on and rent it. Man am I glad I did. As a huge movie lover, this movie came out of nowhere and is now one of my favorites of all time. The randomness and bazar camera work just drew me in and kept me from wanting to blink. This movie is beautifully written and has an amazing way of coming together. This is a must see. If you have any kind of inteligence, you won't be let down!

Summary: Very bad movie
Review: This is the worst movie of all time. The only way it could have been worse is to have been longer.

Summary: Stupid, Self-Congratulatory, Sophomoric
Review: God-awful. A silly pretentious bore. Apparently made by and for alienated computer geeks with severe persecution complexes. Exactly the kind of movie that stoned college kids will consider 'really deep.'

To be fair, there is a wonderful idea lurking somewhere. Unfortunately, the sophomoric pomposity of the film keeps it from developing into anything other than a vague idea of what this project might have been had mature, intelligent adults had anything to do with it.

Summary: Terrible premise
Review: This movie triggered my flight instinct within the first five minutes and I regret not leaving. I am a mathematician. This movie deifies mathematics. I should be happy right? What I hate about this film is the underlying premise, which is prototypical of the way too many people view mathematics. Despite the striking audio-visual appearance of this movie as an artsy, independent film, it fails to deliver the story, message, or question that makes a stimulating film.

What's 216? It's 6 cubed and has less to do with being a human than even this pathetically misguided, pretentious movie.

Summary: One of the five greatest films ever.
Review: As an art student at the Cooper Union in Manhatten I'm usually open to anything. I was anticipating this movie's release and I wasn't disappointed. I've changed my major to film as a result of seeing Pi.

Summary: A beguiling head trip; fun, exciting, and visually stunning
Review: Darren Aronofsky's bizarre debut film recalls Lynch's "Eraserhead" not only in its startling b/w cinematography but also in its depiction of one man's breakdown due to forces just beyond his control. One need not understand the film's complex mathematics or principals of orthodox Judaism in order to enjoy its noirish thriller plot. The gritty, exhilarating depiction of Manhattan's Lower East Side/Chinatown district is the perfect setting for Max Cohen's undoing. A fantastic score, terrific performances, and lingering creepiness make "Pi" the most impressive debut film since Lynch's 1976 head trip midnight classic. I would not be surprised if Mr. Aronofsky's film finds a similar berth.

Summary: A Classic
Review: This was one of the few films I have watched that truly draws you in. I believe that the use of black and white worked to strongly focus the viewer on to the subject matter and the beautiful/horrid experience of discovery.

Summary: BRAINTEASER!!!
Review: Now this is what I call a movie! Now I'm just mad at myself because I did not see it sooner. Well, I have to say that anyone who has got, not just an open mind, but an intellectual mind as well, will love this film. It's one of those movies that makes you really think. I wish I could say a little bit more, but then I would be giving it away. Highly recommended!

Summary: Can this really be a student film?
Review: I CAN'T BELIEVE how much I like this movie. As a member of that freaky class of people to which Max belongs (ie small apartment crammed with computer stuff) this movie hit a nerve. The fact that I know the area of town where it was shot (Chinatown, near the courthouses, and the Lower East Side...) made it hit home more. The scary thing is that the believeable parts of the film are SO beliveable that it makes the fantastic parts seem real also. Ever wonder why some people make a killing on the stock market? Or why the name of G-d has 216 letters? Go check out this movie right NOW.
